The part of this whole thing that I've never quite understood is the idea that the twins gave the Phoenix Suns some big break with their contract. IIRC they signed the contract this summer after Markieff had his "breakout" season. I put that in quotes because looking at that season alone it probably still only made him at best a middle tier starter at power forward and that may be generous. Marcus on the other hand had done nothing. Seemed like a bunch of us thought at the time that they probably paid about the right place for Markieff and Marcus was lucky his brother was generous.

They also signed this "bargain deal" a year before they were restricted free agents, didn't they? If so you would expect them to get paid a little less since the team was committing to two players with long-term contracts a year before they had to do it.

I can understand why these guys would be upset, but I've just always questioned the whole notion that they gave the Phoenix Suns a break on the contracts so they could stay together.

Joe

all of this.

You are correct.

Marcus was absolutely viewed as "along for the ride". And really, other than that Detroit is playing him heavy minutes, he hasn't improved at all since then. His current production rates are terrible. The only reason their contracts look like steals is because of the explosive cap increase. Under the cap as it was when their contracts were signed they'd both be viewed as prohibitive contracts right now.

According to AZ Central, Humphries will now be bought out. Don't understand why, do they think he will foil their tanking plans?

He probably asked and they obliged. Suns save a little money and he gets to latch on somewhere he'd rather be, no big deal.

Humphries can rebound and that's about it. If they were truly solely focused on tanking they would leave him in the starting lineup the rest of the season. I don't see any scenario where somebody was going to give up a second round draft pick for him at his current salary as had been suggested in another thread. Save some money, give his minutes to John Leuer and move on.

Give some of those minutes to Len, too... he and Chandler seem to work pretty well together.

Trade is looking better all the time. Markieff stopped in airport for bag of what looks to be pot. Shocker to think he might smoke a little? Stupid law, but stupid to show up in an airport with a bag of pot too.

"Stupid" is often used in the same sentence as the Morris brothers.

So glad this idiot is gone. Can't believe we got a lottery pick in exchange for a migraine. Great trade.

I'm surprised that we got anything out of that trade, much less a lottery pick.
