To me the issues with Chriss and Bender are:

Bender - Too passive and soft.
Chriss - Inconsistent motor.

You can argue the both are young and still learning the game but look at guys like Markkanen, Porzingis and other young guys who are making an early impact. Some guys you can tell will be solid pros but these two probably won’t be in the league in a couple of years if they can’t get it together. But maybe the blame falls on the coaching staff for not fixing these flaws.
Bender's issues are tied to confidence and that will natural get better as he has more and more success. Chriss seems to have a poor attitude and that may or may not change over time. Bender's issues seem far more fixable at this point and thus I have very little worry in Bender's development. Chriss' development on the other hand scares me quite a bit and if we can get any decent value in trading him I wouldn't be upset about it. Otherwise I think you just have to continue to let these guys develop and hope that at least one of them breaks out within the next couple seasons.

I agree. Chriss' problem is his attitude. He really seems to be a spoiled brat who's never had to work for anything. It didn't help that the Suns handed him the starting spot just a few games into his rookie season.

Bender is just terrified, but he's been getting better and he has a great attitude. Not worried about his development at all.

My guess, if Chriss went to a veteran team surrounded by star players, he might better accept an understudy role until he is ready to play. He is surrounded by young players with the Suns who may not be viewed in the same light.

man... Chriss' shrinkage this year is a bummer. I don't know if Bender will ever reach a high ceiling, but at least he TRIES to work hard and has added a couple elements to his game. Chriss seems just the opposite... all the talent in the world and just lets it go to ish.

So it looks like Chriss will be under the spotlight the rest of the season.

“We’re really looking to evaluate all of our young players, but Marquese in particular, you guys know what he can do in terms of the physical tools and the talent and the athleticism, but we’d like to see a lot of consistency over the last 23 games.”

McDonough alluded to the possibility of what Chriss shows in the remainder of the season influencing some decisions they make in the offseason.

“In some ways, if he’s able to show that consistency that that’ll help dictate what we do or don’t do this summer,” McDonough said.

I hope he said this just for Chriss' sake. Because I would not be making any decisions this summer based upon Chriss.

Oh I think he is referring to trading him and/or drafting another big to replace Chriss, be it with their own pick or the Miami pick. I read that as a message to Chriss.

It would be inane to trade him with his value so low, but I agree that McDonough was probably talking about pursuing a replacement PF in either the draft or free agency. The Lakers may still be letting Randle go, for example.

This is sending a message to Chriss no doubt.

If Chriss is such a head case he might want to be traded. Non of us knows what up with Chriss and the Suns. Kid can play and hopefully he wants to play here.

Not so sure he can. He has not improved much this season. If anything he has taken a step back. Hope he gets it together. Up to him.

That video was painful to watch. Of all of those misses maybe 2 or 3 were tough grabs on alley-oops but that doesn't excuse the overall frequency in that he misses dunks.

Here's a link directly to the video, I do recommend reading the article that @Praxis posted though. It talks about how he leads the leagues in missed dunks, compares that to other players in the league, and historically. It also gets Chriss' reaction to the video being made because apparently he's watched it. He tries explaining why he has so many but I don't think there is any excuse for that when you're 6'10 and have freakish athletic ability like he does. He's shooting 79% on dunks, which is apparently the worst of any pro since they've been tracking attempts like that going back to 2001.

Hope he finishes the season strong to quiet the critics, aka haters.

I don't think anyone here hates Chriss. I don't understand why that term has been thrown around recently. There's people that are optimistic and pessimistic regarding Chriss' future but that's based on what he's shown so far. I don't think anyone is rooting for him to suck.

I think the haters word is just stupid. It is possible to want players to succeed (or not when it comes to the Lakers and jerks) but still be critical without being labeled as hater.
This. A hater is someone that wants to see the player fail. Not the guy that simply points out that he is failing.

Exactly. I would hope that every Suns fans wants all their players to succeed. It's alright to criticize players and personnel because that is part of the game and hopefully it is done with good intentions.

I'd be happy if Knight, Chriss and Bender could get it going. It would really help the team.

The use of the word "hater" is just a way to deflect criticism without real explanation.

Well Chriss got into an argument with Coach, right after his T last night. I don't expect him to play against the trailblazer and maybe longer.

Doesn't look like he is handling his loss of the starting job very well. I think that is the real problem all along. He was gifted the starting job from the beginning.

He was handed the starting job, because he was the best PF we have on the team?? If it where me I would be ok with him loosing his starting job to Warren, but Bender hasn't done jack to warrant him being handed the starting job either.

Our second unit, let alone our starters suck and I don't see how any one individual player can show how good they are on this bench.

Gifted or the best PF we have/had right now?
