The use of the word "hater" is just a way to deflect criticism without real explanation.
Yes. A tactic that I don't respect. Attacking the poster, rather than the issue. A tactic that will be around for some as long as there are boards to post to.

The people who use insults don't seem to realize that they do not convince the majority of other posters by insulting the poster. As the old saying goes, attack problems, not people.

Discuss opinions and facts. That is how to "win a debate". Certainly not by insulting the poster. Because the rest of know that we will be next.

Many decades ago, I read, "How To Win Friends And Influence People". I am sure it did not include a chapter on how to insult people in order to influence them.

That could probably be described as bullying -- abusive behavior.

That video was painful to watch. Of all of those misses maybe 2 or 3 were tough grabs on alley-oops but that doesn't excuse the overall frequency in that he misses dunks.

Here's a link directly to the video, I do recommend reading the article that @Praxis posted though. It talks about how he leads the leagues in missed dunks, compares that to other players in the league, and historically. It also gets Chriss' reaction to the video being made because apparently he's watched it. He tries explaining why he has so many but I don't think there is any excuse for that when you're 6'10 and have freakish athletic ability like he does. He's shooting 79% on dunks, which is apparently the worst of any pro since they've been tracking attempts like that going back to 2001.

Jebus... that was tough to watch. WTF?

Chriss keeps saying he doesn't really know what's wrong, that he can't figure it out. He already had an over-inflated opinion of himself last season, but it appears his greatest enemy is himself.

But I also have to point out that coaching is not doing him any favors. I'm not sure what Triano is doing now. On the Solar Panel podcast from yesterday, they mentioned that the team doesn't practice 5v5 with referees, so there are fouls all the time, with the goal of being able to play through them. That doesn't make sense to me, because that is purely an offensive way of practicing.

There are no defensive coaches, and if they don't have refs and don't teach to, you know, be aggressive WITHOUT fouling, then there's no way we're going to get better, let alone getting Chriss out of whatever funk he's in.

What I fear is that Chriss (and potentially others) is just biding his time here and hopes to either be dealt or released so he can play where he wants. I hope he just doesn't need a change of scenery to start to put it together.

Is that really the case that this Suns coaching staff does not train or practice their players on defense?

D'Antoni's making jokes to the Press about defense was bad enough. But an NBA team, especially one overloaded with young players?

I don't like to throw around the word "unbelievable", but that's . . . unbelievable.

I've been accused of criticizing management too much, but doesn't that reflect an inexperienced owner and General Manager and a temporary Head Coach?

Can we really all sarver “inexperienced” anymore?

Scott Bordow does an interview with Marquese Chriss with the story upcoming.

scott bordow‏Verified account@sbordow

One quote from Marquese Chriss. Story up soon: “I was hurting myself before. I wasn’t focused. I wasn’t mentally stable. I don’t think it’s anything that I need help with. It’s just something I had to re-evaluate myself and like I said be grateful for the position I’m in."

12:45 PM - 28 Feb 2018

Solid reflection on Chriss' part.

Below is the link to the full article written by Scott Bordow regarding Chriss.

Chriss admitted he was disappointed by the way he was playing – he's scoring 6.7 points per game compared to 9.2 last season and shooting 39.9 percent from the field compared to 44.9 percent – and having to come off the bench after starting 75 games last season under then-coach Earl Watson.

“I’d be lying if I said it didn’t bother me,” Chriss said.
“If this is what Coach thinks will help us win games, I’m OK with that,” he said. “I trust Jay, I trust the front office and what they’re doing. Obviously I want to play better, but I feel good. I feel happy with myself. I feel happy with where I’m at.”

Chriss seems to be pretty good off the court. Its on the court where he turns into the Tin man.

It's hard to reconcile on-the-court petulant Chriss vs the fairly reflective and down to earth guy off-the-court version. If he just played hard and didn't hang his head whenever things don't go well I'd have a much better opinion of him.

Maybe we’ve read it wrong. Maybe it’s not petulance but self-disappointment which in turn is crushing his self confidence? Just a thought.

Never looked it at it that way but totally plausible. I know I've dealt with self-doubt earlier in my career as well, and I didn't have the spotlight of millions of people dissecting my every move.

I'm still holding out hope for Chriss. Admittedly, he has looked lousy for most of this season, but the flashes are still tantalizing.

You have always like Chriss over Bender. Is that where you still are?

Even with as lousy as Marq has been playing, using the NBA players comparison tool, Marq has comparable #'s to Bender per game. Per 48: Marq > Bender.

I still like Chriss, Bender still doesn't pass the eye test for me.

Absolutely. Even more so. Chriss can do so much more. Bender makes some threes once in a while, but that's still pretty much all he brings to the court.

For Chriss, the solution is conceptually simple: bring a better energy and attitude, and stop doing really stupid things. Whether he can do that, who knows, but that's really all it will take. Bender, on the other hand, needs to be taught how to play NBA basketball. That's much harder.

I don't know. Basketball can be taught but attitude and energy are part of the character.

I find this really interesting. With bender shooting a pretty consistently good percentage from 3 on a pretty fair volume as a 7-footer and starting to show more skills you dismiss it as making some 3s once in awhile and still prefer chriss. I see the most being very different players with similar upside but seemingly moving in opposite direction directions terms of development.

His percentage is fine.

I agree that Chriss's current trajectory is discouraging.

Though not frequent, Bender has certainly gotten better at putting the ball on the floor to make plays happen. His facilitating is certainly getting better than it has been in the past and he is mixing it up inside for rebounds on a more regular basis.

One of Benders biggest issues is that he isn’t aggressive enough and that is a mental issue that can be fixed and is just like what you said about Chriss. His other big issue is strength and obviously that can be improved as well.

From my perspective, both Chriss and Bender look like nothing more than G-League material. Neither show any confidence on the floor...they're typically over-matched...and the only benefit they really have is making sure the Suns lose a ton of games. That 2016 draft was horrible, so in that sense I guess they're not too bad...
