Can somebody please give me a credible reason why this guy is/should/could be a franchise quarterback. I know Arron Rodgers sat on the bench a few years but what is all the love for this guy?

Little is known
Can’t say yes or no
Anyone claiming to is not very smart
I don't think "franchise quarterback" is necessarily the mindset, but that he's a solid guy that won't lose you games. He's performed well in preseason and in limited starts. Can somebody please give me a credible reason why this guy is/should/could be a franchise quarterback. Dalton has the trust of the coaching staff there, for better or worse. Dalton's never put together such an atrocious stretch that it would be worth dividing the locker room to put him on the bench and give AJ a try.If he was any good why did McCarron never start over Andy Dalton? One can come to conclusion he is not a franchise QB, no?
Are we really going to get a QB at less than that? The only starting QB making less than that in salary this year are guys still slotted into their rookie deals. He would be a perfect QB to bring in a hold the fort while grooming a more talented rookie. Unfortunately, he will sign for at least 15M per year. Double what he is worth.

Teams don't just yank their established starter of 7 years because a guy looks good in practice. It takes a lot more than that, and can totally screw with your locker room chemistry.Trust. That tells they don't trust McCarron, no?

So we should get the rook also. Are we really going to get a QB at less than that? The only starting QB making less than that in salary this year are guys still slotted into their rookie deals.
I wouldn't sign a QB for more than back up money unless I was confident he can succeed as a starter. Throwing 15M at AJM would just be tying up cap space that could be used on players that contribute to winning games. It would be similar to Bears signing Glennon last year.
I agree - I would flat out tell McCarron that he’s being brought in presumably as the starter, and will have first stab at it, but he needs to accept that this time might also draft a first or second round QB.So we should get the rook also.
I'm not for shelling out 3-4 years for mediocrity. Maybe a two year prove it deal with the understanding there will be an understudy or two.

Eye Candy??Crickets, for good reason: there is no credible argument for him.
We've had this discussion before and that's because Dalton is a better QB than you give him credit for. Once again, here are his career stats:If he was any good why did McCarron never start over Andy Dalton? One can come to conclusion he is not a franchise QB, no?
We've had this discussion before and that's because Dalton is a better QB than you give him credit for. Once again, here are his career stats:
63-42-2 record
2217 of 3556(62.3%) for 25,534 yards 167 TD's and 93 INT's and he's significantly cut down on his INT's the past few seasons.
We would kill to have a QB with these numbers on this team.
Palmer is retired and we currently do not have a QB. However, Dalton's bad reputation is not warranted. Put his numbers against most anyone and he's a top 10 QB at worst. If he can win a playoff game(like a certain someone we know), he'd be held in higher regard but I would take him as my QB every day of the week and 3 times on Sunday. I mean, my God, does anyone honestly believe he's worse than:I think Palmer was better and do not even have to think twice
