OK...If all you so called Cardinal experts think McNabb wouldn't help us. Then why is every major Football writer saying that if the 49ers get McNabb they will be the overwhleming favorite in the West and SuperBowl contenders!?!?!
  • Mark Eckel, Times of Trenton: "Put McNabb in that lineup and the 49ers become the overwhelming favorites in the division and a Super Bowl contender."
  • Mike Lombardi, National Football Post: "More mistakes are made by organizations incorrectly evaluating their own teams and counting on the wrong players. This is called a 'convenient truth' that allows teams to believe something is true and failing to address the problem. Ask any quality NFL talent evaluator about the 49ers and he’ll tell you they need offensive line help and a quarterback. But the 49ers don’t see QB as a need, which is convenient for them."
  • Adam Schefter, ESPN: "Put McNabb on the 49ers roster and they become instant favorites to win the NFC West and as formidable as anyone in the NFC."
  • Carl Steward, Oakland Tribune: "With Kurt Warner now retired, the 49ers already seem to believe they're the heir apparent division champs by default. They may be right, but while minimal changes could get them an NFC West title, it won't get them anywhere near a Super Bowl. McNabb could change that."
  • Tim Kawakami, San Jose Mercury News: "Even with a potential game-change move in front of them, they're just not set up to make a decision like this. They just want to get through the draft, then finalize the ... power base, then see what happens with the stadium vote. Which means the McNabb opportunity could come and go before the 49ers are ready to do anything."
  • Matt Williamson, Scouts Inc.: "It would be an extremely proactive, aggressive approach that to me would firmly put them as the No. 1 team in the division. And that is enough for me to say, 'Give it a shot.'"
So please tell me why we shouldn't try to trade for him again??? Why do our fans not see things that many people WHO DO THIS FOR A LIVING see. I mean it was painfully obvious to me Warner should have started years ago...and looked what happened. Yet Leinart fans wouldnt die. Now we could get McNabb with a pick...and instantly keep us contenders...and we want to go with Leinart and Anderson??? Are you kidding me...Didn't the Josh McCown and Jeff Blake efforts prove this wont work?????

Dude I think we all get it, you have a real like for McNabb!! And if you think any Cards Fans give a rats a$$ what these writers or broadcasters has to say you are out of your mind. These are the same guys who say things like "put a fork in the Cards" after 2-3 weeks into the season. The fact is the Whiners are going to be pumped up by all media this season regardless of McNabb.

Football writer and expertise, should not be confused. We do, however, have at least one football expert involved in this QB issue: Ken Whisenhunt. And Whiz says that Leinart is his QB come September, unless he totally blows the opportunity.

Good enough for me, if not a bright light like you.

Jimmy Raye's offense is a dubious mix of half-hearted ball control offense and shotgun spread. McNabb is far too inaccurate to successfully be a ball control QB and he can't operate out of shotgun to save his life, his throws hit more feet than hands out of shotgun.

I remember when everyone thought Culpepper was the bomb. Once he lost his great receivers he was nothing. Once McNabb loses his defense he will not be a winner.

that doesn't make sense. McNabb has done it with average receivers his whole career minus the TO year

DeSean Jackson would have words with you.

BTW, McNabb may be the missing link for the 49ers to be contenders for the division and even a Super Bowl, but that doesn't mean that he's the missing link for the Cardinals.

Many experts picked SF to win the division last year.

Even more experts picked the Seahawks to win the division last year.

And a whole mess of experts had the Bears as Super Bowl contenders.......... so much for experts.

Ok.. All very good arguements. But I think if we did get McNabb he would bring a accomplished winner to our team that Warner brought. He is not extremely accurate in lower range passes...but He is extremely good at throwing the long ball. And we have 2 VERY good deep threats.

To say WHIZ is completely confident in Leinart...then why go sign Anderson who is a starter caliber QB??

McNabb has had HORRIFIC WR's his whole career except Desean Jackson. And he has made like 5 Pro Bowls and 5 NFC Title games. The man is a winner.

Leinart MAY turn out ok...but again in the NFL..we dont have that window to build on. Fitz and Breaston could be gone by the time Leinart turns ok.

The WR's I dont think trust him and I think it was 1 reason why Boldin left. I bet if Warner stayed 1 more year...Boldin would have too. Leinarts passes will get u killed.(I know Warner threw a bad one to Boldin) But as whole...Leinarts delivery is to high.

I guess we will see. But if We signed McNabb it would bring a sense that this team strives to win! It will do anything to stay on top. In the NFL..as we have seen...A little confidence goes a long way. I think the Offense would have confidence in McNabb.

Just my Opinion. Blast away.

You have a point, a good deep ball might just work with a good run game making the playaction long ball very dangerous. Probably why coach like the idea of Derek Anderson who is a good long ball type QB. But you cant rely on it all the time thus why I want a more complete game.

To say WHIZ is completely confident in Leinart...then why go sign Anderson who is a starter caliber QB??

I dont think any one believes Coach is completely confident in Matt. If they are they havent listened to any interviews with coach or watched how free agency played out the first few weeks. We did call the Eagles about McNabb before we found out their price was to high combined with the whole only 1 year on his contract thing, then we moved on to Whitehurst and Anderson.

Leinart was a very accomplished winner in college. Also, we don't have 2 VERY good deep threats. Our WRs thrive on timing routes. Only Breaston could be considered a good deep threat due to his speed, but we haven't seen that come to pass; at least not anywhere near the likes DeSean Jackson was last year.

To say WHIZ is completely confident in Leinart...then why go sign Anderson who is a starter caliber QB??

Starter caliber for the Browns until he was benched. It's not like he had a HoF QB behind him when he was benched either.

McNabb has had HORRIFIC WR's his whole career except Desean Jackson. And he has made like 5 Pro Bowls and 5 NFC Title games. The man is a winner.

He also had T.O. I haven't even bothered go to back further to see who his receivers were before he got T.O. BTW, he's also had Westbrook for almost his entire career.

Leinart MAY turn out ok...but again in the NFL..we dont have that window to build on. Fitz and Breaston could be gone by the time Leinart turns ok.

Fitz and Breaston are still young. Barring freak injuries, they will still be playing when McNabb is out of the league. If you're basing our window on these two guys, we have plenty of time.

Boldin had no say in leaving this year. He was traded.

I guess we will see. But if We signed McNabb it would bring a sense that this team strives to win! It will do anything to stay on top. In the NFL..as we have seen...A little confidence goes a long way. I think the Offense would have confidence in McNabb.

Do you get the feeling that Oakland is striving to win? They are the front runners for McNabb.

No we don't have 2 very good deep threats...completely false!

Clearly not a starter caliber or would not be a back-up with all the needs at QB in the league. We are taking a flyer for a BACK UP thats all he is currently!

McNabb has had HORRIFIC WR's his whole career except Desean Jackson. And he has made like 5 Pro Bowls and 5 NFC Title games. The man is a winner.

Umm not sure what to say here...he has had success but chokes in big time games thats not the making of a winner in my book!

Leinart MAY turn out ok...but again in the NFL..we dont have that window to build on. Fitz and Breaston could be gone by the time Leinart turns ok.

Simply your own made up fabrication! You act as though Leinart is some rookie that needs a few years to learn the system! He has learned the system its GO time now if he does not have a good year he is probably gone.

Again total fabrication on your part! Boldin was not going to be here REGARDLESS! And to say the WR's don't trust a guy who has not played much in the past few years is kind of a dumb point to even try to make. They have to play together to earn trust, what has been said is he is already working on getting better and has the support of his team and players.

I guess we will see. But if We signed McNabb it would bring a sense that this team strives to win! It will do anything to stay on top. In the NFL..as we have seen...A little confidence goes a long way. I think the Offense would have confidence in McNabb.

I think the team would have just as much confidence in Matt if he delivers the ball, which I think he can much more effectively than an inaccurate McNabb!

Just my Opinion. Blast away.

^ So your point is... he is as bad as some of us think just always had a solid defense and rushing attack?

No point, I went to get the stats to make one but there are too many anomalies to come to any definite conclusion.

Good defense is one of the easy ones, but in 2003, their defense wasn't very good.

The stats also seem to support that McNabb does a lot better with good receivers. That or they drastically changed the offense in 2004 which would explain the terrible rushing numbers.

I feel like, to quote Yogi Berra, this is "deja vu all over again."

Two years ago the board was so unanimous on Leinart being the starter to the point of lashing out at anyone who would dare question his status or ability.

Here we are two years later and a 5 time Pro Bowl QB who has extensive playoff experience and success (go look up McNabb's playoff record) is being dismissed even though he has professed that he wants to play in Arizona.

Let me ask you this...if the Cardinals were to somehow swing a deal for McNabb, what do you think the perception around the NFL would be? Try to put blind loyalties aside.

I think Jeff said it best, trading for and signing McNabb would be "of Biblical proportions."

the eagles rushing attack is pretty much part of their passing attack and this has to deal with the development of brian westbrook

in 2002 he caught 9 balls, 2003 he caught 37 ......... starting in 2004 he then went on to catch 73, 61, 77, 90, 54 and then 25 last year in 8 games as he continues to wear down

watching mcnabb he completes a lot of short passes to his RBs in space - takes a lot of chances deep with mixed results and then struggles with the mid range game

he's a good competitor and I think has been beat up a little heavy throughout his career

however, at this point I don't see him being a difference maker on any NFC West team and I don't see any NFCW team having more than a punchers chance in getting to the SB with or without the chunky soup

injuries had little to do with the decline of culpepper

the guy could quite possibly be one of the dumbest QBs I've ever seen and that is something that you can't fix - can only hide

a lot of his sins were made up for by having the insanely sure hands of chris carter, the freakish athletic ability of randy moss and the dynamic rushing threat of robert smith on his side

look at his fumbles, turnovers, etc

he got away with a lot of balls that would be 20/80 throws to normal receivers - they however turned into 60/40 balls due to the guys receiving them

and eventually they're going to be right...maybe this year. The gap has closed & I think it will come down to the wire this season. I call it even right now.

McNabb is highly overrated through the NFL and media. The perception of course would be in his favor. BUT HE CHOKES EVERY SINGLE TIME HE MAKES THE PLAYOFFS!

How hard is this to comprehend? Why is this thread even still going? How can people really feel more secure in a fairly inaccurate chokejob of a QB than in the guy that Whiz has already says he has confidence in, and has yet to be given the opportunity to win a playoff game? We know what we will get in McNabb: a few dynamite regular season games, a playoff berth, and a choke. I would much rather gamble for something more than the same old McNabb crap.

EDIT: didn't realize that post was a couple days old, either way. Still my feelings on the subject.
