Kiper went on the Mike & Mike radio show this morning talking about prospects for the 05 draft.

He has the top three picks as Leinart, Rodgers and Benson, assuming Leinart and Rodgers both come out of course.

Then he went on to say that after a few years of weak RB classes, there are likely to be four RBs that carry elite grades this year:
1) Cedric Benson
2) Ronnie Brown
3) Cadillac Williams
4) ASFN Favorite DeAngelo Williams

I don't know whether to take this as good or bad. If we decide to go RB with our first round pick, we'll get a very good runner. But if we go another direction in round 1, the cupboard could be picked bare.

I've been predicting Cadillac to the Cards for awhile, but it will be interesting to see how DeAngelo Williams stock goes.

I'm telling you guys - DEANGELO WILLIAMS - anyone who thinks that kid is going to drop to the second - or (trying not really rip into people here) THE 3RD obviously hasn't seen the kid play.

Screw Michael Bennett - this kid is Emmitt Smith with a jet pack attached to his back.

I'll say this right now - if we have a choice of picking through a couple of those guys and DeAngelo is there and we pass on him I WILL BE FURIOUS and would probably join in with Tango on the bash DG bandwagon. The kid IS the real deal out of all of them. 1400 yards last year and even better - absolutely ridiculous numbers this year. You have to see him play.

Come on beef he's not THAT good. Kids ripping off 1800 yards at 6+ yards a pop with a lousy Qb are a dime a dozen these days. No way in hell should we draft this guy in the first 2 rounds.

Come on we gotta stop hyping this kid so other teams don't find out and take him out from under our noses.

I saw we take Clarett round 1, Chris Rix round 2, and that 39 year old Wr from South Carolina in round 3.

A lot is going to depend on their pre-draft workouts. However, if their workouts are in line with their college performances, he said that all four figure to be in the mix of the top 10 picks. So unless DeAngelo Williams looks absolutely terrible in a workout, thoughts of picking him up in the second round are a pipe dream. One thing to keep in mind is that Williams is a junior and had dropped hints that he wants to come back for a senior season. However I think if he really ends up being projected as high as Kiper is talking about, there is no way he'll be able to risk that kind of money by staying in school.

I don't think we'll have a pick high enough to select Benson. I remember reading one scout's take saying he was as good as Ricky Williams. I've also seen numerous reports ranking Benson as the best overall player in this draft.

I'm not all that impressed with Benson - especially for a DG offense. And I think Cadillac Williams is about as over-rated as they come. I will puke if they take him.

Another name to consider at RB is [size=-1]Verand Morency of Oklahoma State. I haven't seen the kid run, but Great Blue North has him currently listed as the #12 player overall. I've seen a couple of mocks that had Morency mid-first round.

What ever happened to Marion Barber of Minnesota? Coming into this season, he was talked up in the same category as Benson.

Brilliant. Yeah, that Leinart kid sucks too. If he's there in the 7th we might as well take him. No team should take him before the third round though. Yup.

What don't you like on Cadillac?

The one concern I have is he is so skinny, but he runs hard, makes people miss, can catch the ball, return punts. He's not my favorite I think he lacks a top gear like DeAngelo, but I think he's a good player.

Benson is good but he's been so overused in college it's scary.

I hope Oklahoma is smart enough to not do that to Adrian Peterson.

I hate when they have those half fender things covering half the rear tires. Those are lame!

I love the guy too, but I gotta admit I really want to see DeAngelo Williams in a Cardinal uniform if he comes out.

I am on the DeAngelo Williams bandwagon. The kid can just fly.

If Navarre can become a Brad Johnson type quarterback in Denny's system, this offense would take off. The home-run threat of Williams then a little play-action and the ball deep to Fitz or Quan underneath after the clear out. I can see it now.

As of right now I like Benson's college career the most, he has been more then consistent with good stats for 4 years now against good competition. His stats are very comparble with DeAngelo the last 2 years even though he played against much lesser competition. They have almost the same rushing yards but DeAngelo has more catches but Benson has far more TD's the last two years. They are both the same size and have the same speed.

But Russ I think you give a very good point in that Benson has been used way to much in that he has started for 4 years instead of Deangelo just 2 years. DeAngelo will have the much longer and productive career when it is all said and done IMO.

Plus it is no secret that Benson Idolizes Ricky Williams, runs like him, same hair, ect. He may not be as crazy as Ricky and probably only idolizes him as a footbal player but still it is a red flag in my book.

So with that DeAngelo gets the slight edge over Benson.

I would rank them as follows:

1. DeAngelo
2. Cedric
3. Ronnie - just as good as Carnell but bigger and less injury history.
4. Carnell - Just to many injuries in his past and is way to skinny for my taste for a 1st round RB.

Jordan is not coming here. If we all know Kendall he has been working over time in the locker room telling how mistreated he was how hard the training camps are ect.

Texas Ex says (what do I know, OU has owned us of late)

Benson is not the bruising back Williams was in comparison though he can break some tackles. Benson also doesn't have the speed Williams had. What Benson has that Williams lacked is more moves and better vision. Funny, the best back at Texas might be the QB Vince Young. Personally, Vince Young would be a better WR probably than a QB. Now that Peterson kid from OU looks like the second coming of Jim Brown but he is going to take some hits for the remaining years in college with his style of running and that might dampen his years in the pros.

True but Jordan is desperate to start.

If I was a college runningback I'd come out as soon as I could. Staying for an extra year isn't going to help you develope like it would a position like QB. Runningbacks just take too many hits and the good ones get over used.

Good point. Money and the thought of starting does cure all.

Benson is bigger, Williams is faster, and more explosive. Benson will be good, I have no doubt, but I don't see a long career the kid has just carried the ball so much and he's a contact runner, takes a lot of hits, gets a lot of yards after contact, I just think most RB's(except Emmitt) have only so many carries in their legs and he's used up a lot of his in college.

Same reason I like Jordan, has a lot of talent and hasn't been beaten up for years like other NFL RB's have.

Agree on Vince, he looks like he could be the next Roy Williams at WR. He's getting better at QB but his fundamentals are still horrible and I don't think he's getting any coaching. Remember Phil Simms and NFL scouts just tore apart the Texas staff for the job they did with Chris Simms. If it was just Phil you'd think sour grapes, but a BUNCH of NFL scouts said the same thing, terrible coaching staff they just recruit.

Everything I've read says Vince wants to be an NFL QB, I think he DOES have the talent, but if I had to lay odds I bet his career goes similar to Ronald Curry. Curry finally gave up trying to be a QB and is now a rising star at WR in Oakland.

I actually mentioned that before too, his rep at Maryland and early on has been lazy, if true Green would drive him nuts.

Still the lure of PT is tough to resist for a guy who hasn't had it.
