I'm not here to entertain you. I vividly remember the last time you spouted off this nonsense, that I had educated you as to why your stance on alcoholism is not only factually incorrect, but also very dangerous.

I don't like to put people on the spotlight, but you truly need to be put in your place. Marginalizing those who have an affliction from alcohol only worsens the problem. People with dependence issues need support, not shame. Do you honestly believe it's beneficial to tell someone with alcoholism that their disease isn't really a disease because it doesn't fit your made up criteria for what a disease is? It's idiots like you who keep many from seeking help when they need it. Then, they end up like a Michael Floyd, or even worse.

I dare you to take your happy ass to an AA meeting or an alcohol rehabilitation clinic and give a lecture on how alcoholism is not a disease and shouldn't be in the same category as Parkinson's. If you don't have the guts to do it, I suggest you keep your f****ng mouth shut and move on to a different topic.

Yeah its not. Nobody cares about addiction. Im not going to weep because of your bad choices. No different than heroin. Know how many times Ive cried over one of them OD'ing? Not once.

Bottle of booze isnt going to chase you down the hallway. Call the cops! Its knocking down the door!

Take a hike Corky, your argument is tired and lame and absolves people of responsibility for their actions. Alkies are not victims. They are examples used to teach kids.

Dude... why are you bothering? You know the above probably just feeds the ego of people like Bodha.

You're probably right. Judging from his response, he'll never learn. And the cycle is perpetuated.

The ignore button is a fantastic tool.

I always thought I would be missing out on something by using it. I was right, I miss out on trolling, and worthless dribble. It is great.

Not to mention, after using it, even when someone questions my personal sanity with my opinions, it is done with at least a small amount of civility and respect.

It just takes what makes this board great and just magnifies it.

Derp derp derp scientists, doctors, and experts are wrong because Bodha has an opinion! You're a legend in your own mind, Bodha.

I hope something bad happens to you someday and everybody scoffs and offers no help or sympathy, so it can come full circle. You'll be whining up a storm then.

So long as its my choice and the resulting suffering is a result of my poor decisions then I absolutely welcome them.

Thats called life. You make bad choices, you pay the consequences. You and alkies need to learn that.

Alkies? Nice derogatory term. Can we ban this troll already?

Alcoholism is NOT a choice. It IS a disease, says the experts, scientists, and doctors. Why in the hell should we believe an internet nobody like you over the preponderance of science? We're not arguing opinions here. This isn't some stance of mine, or random thoughts. There are facts, then there are your ravings.

Yeah, he's probably a post, maybe two from the ignore list. The only reason I try to pound sense into him is because I remember how stupid I could be when I was a dumb kid myself. Then again, nothing anybody said could sway me then, no matter how misguided or just plain stupid I acted/spoke.

A lot of people still don't understand mental illness and what goes along with it. They think that people are perfectly able to logical, sound decisions and not throw their lives away because of it. Not everyone's brains work the same way and simple will power is not always enough to overcome it.

Your arguments are lame and redundant.

Theres not a 12 step for overcoming ALS.

Not a disease. Its a consequence of a choice.

It must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over. Here, as so often in this world, persistence is the first and most important requirement for success.

compulsive personality disorder and addictive personalities are a thing. Truth. Alcohol and cocaine both provide the same chemical stimuli to the brain. also truth.

I was an alcoholic once...it helped ruin my military career.

also shot $100 worth of meth in my arm every day for a couple of years.

my dad died from heroin overdose...while dear old mom spent 90 days in rehab.

eldest sister had a "********" business she used to by dope....bag ***** I believe is still an active term?

I have no doubts that addictions are a form of disease.
That being said, Bodha is not completely wrong on this topic.

One CAN choose to walk away. When you just play the sympathetic position that it is a disease and the poor bastard cant help it...you are enabling that disease by removing personal responsibility.
when I quit drinking, I suffered...it truly sucked. but I had made up my mind that being a drunk was not what I wanted for my life....so I "chose" to endure the suffering rather than making the "choice" to take another drink.
when I stopped shooting dope it was because I "chose" to stop shooting dope...again,..it was not what I wanted for my life.
My dad "Chose" to die by heroin. (evidenced by the fact he gave himself a hot shot and suicided by heroin)
My mom "Chose" to go to rehab and quit.

I have 4 brothers and 8 sisters...all of them have been either an alcoholic or a dope fiend at some point except for my baby brother...a few of them still are.

50 years of addiction experience has shown me that there has to be some sort of genetic pre disposition towards addictions. Because for some families its just that odd cousin who lives up state...while for others it is pretty much everybody.

My moms most recent fella, Bob...was a bit of a drunk. A functional alcoholic. Old dude drank a 12 pack every day. But booze didn't kill Bob. Leukemia did. Bob could have made the choice to walk away from alcohol had he decided too. Bob could not make the decision to walk away from Leukemia. His only choice was to die now,...or stretch it out and die later. He chose to die now rather than suffer through a few months of chemo.

disease or not. Genetic or not. Every addict makes a choice to get high, or to get drunk..is it difficult to decide not to? Sure...very. But it is still a choice and they can choose to not get drunk/high.

I have only seen it kill someone once
