Michael B. was on 12 News after the game, being interviewed by Bickley. He did not pull punches on his disdain for the City of Glendale.

RE: The Super Bowl

They're not a partner at all. The city hall people, you know, have really done nothing and they're not gonna be. All the events are in, the decision has been made to have those in Phoenix and Scottsdale. The hotels here are still gouging. So they haven't been a good partner. But, onward and forward. We want to work with other great communities like Phoenix and Scottsdale, who are doing a great job. And this is gonna be great for the whole region.

RE: Did Glendale Ever Make A Serious Attempt to Get in the Game?

I think they are trying to put some spin on it, on the fact that they never took any action. Recently, they've been telling people they lost money on the (last) Super Bowl, which is a bunch of malarchy. They were telling people after that Super Bowl that they made a lot of money and they had about $13 million worth of media exposure value to the City of Glendale. There's no doubt it was a windfall for them. I don't know why they're acting the way they're acting. It doesn't make sense to me.

The big complaint last time was that everything was so spread out. It was hoped the area around the stadium would be a bit more developed and everything could be held closer to the stadium. Instead, they've even moved more events out of Glendale. The idiots running that city have just about ensured that we won't see another SB for a long, long time. Congrats on electing these morons, Glendale citizens. Just a great job. :bang:

That area is hasn't had anything built around it. Amazing to me really. What events are you say moved out of Glendale recently? What I don't understand is that when the team were looking for a place to put their new stadium, they were all over it. Now they seem to not want anything to do with it. Does the Coyote's mess come into play here? It seems they have lost money with them.

I wish they built the stadium closer to me where they were thinking about add it, near Gila River Casino. Would have made a lot more sense.

It was a mistake to build anything out there in the first place.

Cardinals should either be at Riverview, or downtown PHX

Coyotes should have been either at Los Arcos, or downtown PHX

The NFL Experience was in Glendale last time, but now it will be in Phoenix. Absolutely nothing but the game will be in Glendale.

Crazy! What a waste. I really wish they didn't build it there.

I hate that it's there too. My favorite idea of them all was the one with one end zone being in Tempe and the other in Mesa. Many of the other ideas were good too. I guess I wouldn't mind as much if they had the Light rail system all the way to the stadium but man I hate that drive every season.

I don't necessarily buy that. I think they have done a good job at making sure that there aren't any events for the Super Bowl in Glendale but providing the City of Phoenix does a good job, it shouldn't prevent the area from getting another Super Bowl.

Jan Hibbard disagrees with you. Oh wait, she left that area in Mesa and moved to Gilbert after screwing the city over with her lies and did more of the same.

She helped keep the Cardinals stadium out of Mesa, successfully defeated a property tax and got the city's tax on food repealed. She aided Gilbert residents in defeating a strict pool-fence ordinance.

If the main complaint from the media/NFL/visiting fans last time was the distance between venues, does it matter how good of a job PHX does?

I took 2 hrs from the 60 on I-10 to finally get to the game. It was ridiculous.

Crisper ....... It pains me to inform you, but the NFL Experience as we know it, is no more! They are going to have a Super Bowl Village in Downtown Phoenix. They will have music, entertainment, some autograph opportunities, and some interactive events but nothing close to the NFL Experience that they have had for years. There will be no Super Bowl Card and Collectible Show that has always been associated with the NFL Experience. I was bummed when I received the news!

what?! that's pathetic. like REALLY pathetic. The NFL experience was a ton of fun to do in Tampa and it was awesome going there on Saturday the day before the game and getting a look at the stadium and all it's glory before going there.

Wow. I knew they cancelled it near the stadium at New Jersey last year, but I thought that was over parking/weather concerns.

I had read there were changes to it in AZ, but I didn't know they were that extensive. This was an article from March that had me misinformed, I guess:

The NFL Experience, the world's largest interactive football theme park, will be at the Phoenix Convention Center. One of the game's most popular activities, the NFL Experience hosts kids' football clinics, interactive football games, free autograph sessions, football memorabilia, entertainment attractions and more.

My brother in law finally got season tickets these past couple seasons after being on New England season ticket wait list since 1995. He drives 4-5 hours each way from New Hampshire.

Driving to the west side 8-10 times (not counting playoffs) for Cardinal Games is not a big deal.

Driving to the west side 41+ times for Coyotes games on the other hand thats another story.

On of my co-workers lives in Springerville and owns season tickets. That is about a 5 hour drive each way and she hasn't missed a game since the new stadium opened. So I get no sympathy when I complain about the drive from the east side of town from her.

IMO the stadium is great where it is. There are plenty of eating and shopping right near buy. Tailgating on the great lawn is truly great. There is no problem for most people to get there. Gates are easily marked and the air conditioning is wonderful.

I will not debate that some maybe further away. But that fact that when I went the first year they were ASU was a distance for me some days 45 to an hour and getting out is was worse. I don't have any idea if you hate the circumstances that may stop some from coming. Me personally don't care where it is just that it is.

One small comment on pool fences. To fight law on pool fences is ridiculous. We have enough people and children dieting because a fence was not put up with a secured gate.
Back to my team.

Obviously that complaint didn't keep them from getting the Super Bowl this season. If they keep everything near downtown with the exception of the game then it should be better than the last time and shouldn't prevent future games from being awarded to Phoenix.

how much actual "area" do they need around a stadium to pull off a Super Bowl?

I'm asking more because of the next one at Levis Stadium. There are hotels fairly close to there, light rail etc. Just curious what sort of impact a SB actually has on the surrounding area. One co worker said he heard he could rent out his house for several thousand dollars for the SB. I'm not particularly interested in that I don't trust strangers that much plus where I live they'd probably really frown on that.

More interested in what impact it's going to have with all the media etc there. 2 games so far I haven't noticed a thing other than 49er fans at the Taco Bell at 7:30 am yesterday

I still remember the name of the trailpark lady who fought the Cardinals stadium in Mesa.

LaRue Gates. :bang:

Ah yes. Because of all the prostitution and drug usage that would be present at and around the stadium.

Mesa learned their lesson on that one. Scott Smith and company really worked their tails off to change the culture in Mesa to get things done

Glendale on the other hand can't do anything but get in their own way. Their opposition the casino is both antiquated and asinine. Apparently no one in that town has been to Talking Stick or Wild Horse Pass. It's not surprising at all that the Bidwills hate them. Not to mention the other crap they have pulled around the stadium. Not sure if there is a more poorly run city in all if Arizona.

What's happened since Glendale actively pursued the Coyotes and the Cardinals to move to there? Answer: Politics.
The previous mayor of Glendale, Elaine Scruggs was a big supporter of having the Cardinals and Coyotes in Glendale to fuel economic development. The new mayor, Jerry Weiers, not so much.

Scruggs wanted to move Glendale from a "bedroom" suburb, which it was 20 plus years ago when she entered the mayor's office, to an employment corridor. They used the attraction of the two professional sports teams to jump start the makeover.

A couple of years ago, Scruggs retired and Weiers was elected mayor.

From Mayor Weiers official bio page:
Since taking office in January 2013, Mayor Weiers has actively worked to bring new economic and community activity to Glendale. In just his first year, Mayor Weiers helped the city obtain more than a million dollars in grants for public safety and local non-profit groups, established an event to help military veterans, brought back fireworks to Glendale on the 4th of July, and established a monthly classic car cruise in downtown Glendale. These large events have improved the quality of life for Glendale residents, increased economic activity in the City, and – most importantly – did not use any taxpayer money.

The new administration in Glendale sounds small minded to me.

You are Arizona's 5th largest city. You have a quarter of a million residents.

And Fireworks and a monthly car show are your biggest accomplishments :(

Just to clarify ........ They will have a watered down, much smaller version of the NFL Experience at the convention center. There will be no Super Bowl Card and Collectible Show as they have had every year at the NFL Experience. It won't be the same experience. They will have several blocks sectioned off downtown that will be the hub, called the Super Bowl Village(aka Super Bowl Central) and that will be free of charge. They will have music and other entertainment as well as NFL organized activities and merchandise. Just an fyi.
