I've lived in Glendale forever and it's crappy. Scottsdale isn't bad but every time I go they send me back.

It's really not about being a dump or being snobby, it's that every business owner would rather locate their business where there are a greater amount of people with disposable income. East Valley cities generally have a higher per capita income and headquarters significantly more businesses than the West Valley. It made sense then and now to build the thing out East but the politicians and the developers who line their pockets per usual screwed things up. I can guarantee there would not be nearly as many empty club seats if the stadium was downtown or in Tempe.

That being said, UofP is already about to house it's ninth NFL season. With the way things are these days my guess is the Bidwills start clamoring for something new in 10-15 years.

Not saying that you are wrong BIM but I seemed to remember that it was almost right after the bill passed the Cardinals were talking about the Priest and Washington site in Tempe.

We are talking since the team arrived in 1988, not just after the bill passed. Years before the bill passed, Mesa tried hard to get it done - with the Bidwills and the Fiesta Bowl participating and putting up funding for those early projects.

After the bill passed there were actually about 17 or 18 sites and trimmed it down to 10 and then later down to the final 3 - Mesa, Tempe, and Glendale.

Great post. The East Valley has all of the positives you mentioned and it is where nearly all of the players choose to live which is likely why they never sought to move the training facility.

Imagine if after a home game we could all go to local bars and eateries on mill

Our favorite after-the-game stories are from the year or two we would park out at the Brown lot and walk to the games (rather than cram onto a school bus). There is a strict rule around the stadium and all of the parking lots - Tailgating after the game has begun or post-game is not permitted. Understandable after the game because you don't want people getting their drink on just before they hop into their vehicles and not everyone is responsible enough to tailgate with a designated driver. Anyway, by the time we would make it to the Brown lot (a high school parking lot) there would always be a helicopter flying pretty low and shining a light on any group of people milling around and announcing loudly "There is no tailgating allowed. Go home!!" Then there would be foot or bike patrols doing the same thing. Felt like the Gestapo was out in force.

If I remember correctly that was the special BIM squad, funded by dark money, to make you get the heck back to Mesa.:)
