How long has the stadium been on the west side?

Isn't it time to just get over the time it takes to get over there ( like most every other town)? Geez. Some or even most places have worse situations and stadiums and have to play outside in bad weather.

:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I live on the eastside and I am just grateful that we get to go to an awesome stadium to watch the Cardinals. The only time that I ever think that it sucks is when they play a Thursday or Monday night game because then you have to deal with traffic. Even then, I just go to the game a little earlier. As was pointed out, once a week at most to the westside is no problem. Coyotes fans though, I feel for ya'. That's the only reason that I won't get a season ticket package for the Yotes.

ITT: East side snobs butt-hurt about having visit the west side.
I took 2 hrs from the 60 on I-10 to finally get to the game. It was ridiculous.
Did your car break down? Even a Monday/Thursday game wouldn't take that long.

The new administration in Glendale sounds small minded to me.
Spending tax payer money on something that will never return the investment would've been small minded.

Total BS. Nice revisionist history.
Mesa was the city that stepped up first when no other city would.
Source? Mesa was not first nor did they step up. They shot it down 3 times.

But, if in your world, Glendale was the only city to step up...uh, okay.
Don't be so condescending. Especially when you're wrong.

It was built there because there was nothing there to displace and no neighbors to complain about it.
It was built there because the city of Glendale did step up.

Lol. Ok dude. Just because you choose to live in the armpit doesn't make us east siders rich or snobs.
LOL at being a snob in the same sentence you claim to not be a snob.

I just like to pump gas without being begged for money.
Like this doesn't happen it Tempe, Phoenix, Mesa or even Scottsdale. Oh and more snobbery

Without Glendale we'd still be sitting in the bleachers at SDS. Instead we have an amazing stadium and one of the best tailgating situations in the league.

My question is, what exactly is the city of Glendale supposed to do?

I finally decided on a signature. I just had to make family friendly. You decide which word I replaced.

If you call that being a snob, sign me up. I grew up in Phoenix and still have family there but only go when I need to. Run down, dirty old Town with tweeker flooded sidewalks.

Yeah you can find that in pockets of any city but Phoenix and mesa rule the roost.

I don't like Scottsdale either so maybe I am an ultra snob. Is what it is.

But IMO, being raised in west Phoenix for 20 years I'm not just some snotty hater, I simply don't like it so I moved out of it.

Cardinals and Glendale are a match made in hell. An NFL franchise that hasn't managed to get along with anyone in the history of their existence, and the most dysfunctional government entity in Arizona history. These problems will only get worse as we go along. It seems certain that we won't see another superbowl here for many years if ever.

Are you new to the Valley? Stepping up means presenting proposals to build a stadium in your city. Mesa was first to do so (years before other cities entered the picture). Twice on their own and once in a partnership with Tempe. They get dumped on a lot but they tried when no one else seemed to care at the time.

Not saying that you are wrong BIM but I seemed to remember that it was almost right after the bill passed the Cardinals were talking about the Priest and Washington sight in Tempe.

It was built there because the city of Glendale did step up.

I you want to get technical about this, it was that family that use to own a ton of land out there that stepped up. The stadium was funded by a state inititive and the land was sold on the cheap by private individuals. John F. Long I think.

After several years of debate, in August 2002, the Arizona State Tourism and Sports Authority voted to build a new retractable roof stadium in Glendale, AZ for the Arizona Cardinals. At a cost of $455 million, the stadium not only features a retractable roof, but features a retractable side and field that moves in and out of the structure. The stadium is built on 28 acres that is owned by the sports authority. The Cardinals paid for 25% of the stadium, $109 million, including cost overruns and the state Tourism and Sports Authority paid for 75% of the stadium. The Cardinals also bought the land for the stadium at a cost of $18.5 million.

What did Glendale do here? And before anyone say 'infrastructure', that was already being build for Westgate and if anything, the revenues from the Stadium has helped out with that.

Someone refresh my memory:

Wasn't a second field supposed to be built outside of UoP for Training Camp? Inflatable tent that would have AC and a place for the fans to watch? IIRC that was part of the deal for moving TC from Flag to Glendale. And I was thinking Glendale was supposed to share costs so youth groups could use it.....Obviously that didn't happen and the Cards have had ONE field for TC. They gave up having two.

If I'm remembering correctly (no guarantee) Michael may be ticked about that as well.

I just don't think a politician proposing legislation can be considered the city stepping up.

Micheal turned down the free land from Jong F. Long. But I don't blame you for forgetting who sold them the land. As Cardinal fans, we all want to forget the name Pendergast. That's right it was Clancys family land.

You can't just dissmis the infrastructure. There were million in extra cost for the Cards stadium (roads, freeway on/off ramps, etc.) that weren't needed without the stadium. The residents of Glendale approved a half cent tax increase to pay for infrastructure and 9.5 million toward the stadium.

wikipedia said:
The cost of the project was $455 million. That total included $395.4 million for the stadium, $41.7 million for site improvements, and $17.8 million for the land. Contributors to the stadium included the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority ($302.3 million), the Arizona Cardinals ($143.2 million), and the City of Glendale ($9.5 million).

The East Side is better than the West Side.

I am starting to think the inferiority complex that we all suffer from as Cardinal fans is more pronounced on the West Side than the East Side.

And...

Rightfully so.

I like having a beautiful new stadium, but miss the atmosphere/environment of Tempe vs Glendale. I love the Big Red Lawn and the vibe out there, but the restaurants/bars have a real cookie-cutter, chain, mall-like feel to it. We pretty much travel to the game, then leave right after.

Also it seems the parking lots are very inconsistent. Sometimes you get in quick, other times it takes an hour or more. Not enough entry/exit points particularly regarding the green lot.

Before too long it won't be called the Super Bowl anylonger anyway. It will become the World Bowl or Cosmic Bowl as we place teams in other countries and on other planets. You think you have a long commute now, just wait till you have to commute to an away game on Mars.

It can be bad when there are other events planned (JT concert) or the ticket takers are new and demand that you rip off the lower portion of your tag and hand it to them (Yeah, doing that several thousand times won't hold up the flow of traffic).

Sunday games the traffic flow is usually pretty smooth as you near the parking areas. The evening games, especially in the preseason, can suck because the cops aren't always out controlling the lights.

I have not. I've driven past it a couple of times, but never stopped.

I traveled across the Earth from Anthem to get to SDS. Sucked, traffic was horrible, seats were hot, sun was burning and team sucked to high heaven.

Glendale is a lot closer to me, and I love that. So what if eastsiders have a longer drive now...the seats are great, the ac is cold and the team is a winner.

I have no other reason to go to Glendale other than the Cards, however I have no reason to go to Tempe or Mesa either.

Grew up and went to school on the east side of town in Tempe and now live on the west side (you can see the Cardinals stadium in the distance from my second floor bathroom). Don't get all the west side/east side hatred. I guess people will always try to find ways to split people into us and them. You can find good and bad both places.

I don't get the east/west side battle either. I live in the north valley, everyone who's anyone knows that's the best place to live! :D
