If Jones clears waivers I think the Suns will sign him to a Two-Way contract. I don't think he showed much while with the team though. The only reason he was on the main roster last year was his entry in the Slam-Dunk Contest. They let him play for a week or so before the All-Star break and then afterwards when they went full tank mode. He couldn't shoot though so I don't blame them for giving up on him.

I don't like James but keeping him for the year isn't that bad. Installing a new PG is a little trickier than installing a new Center in a coaches system and Triano trusts James as a backup. Unfortunately we're in a position where we need James because of trades and injuries. @ColdPickleNachos nailed the comparison though of James playing like the guy who tries to tell everyone how to play in a pickup game but makes horrible mistakes or plays virtually every time he touches the ball. I'd been trying to come up with a way to describe his attitude for a while and that is spot on.

If it is possible to sign Jones to a two-way contract, I'm all for it.

Phoenix will incur a $400K cap hit on the Derrick Jones waiver. A claiming team would need to have cap space or a trade exception to claim the 20 year-old. The waiver claim order is based on the current standings.

I can't help but think the Suns explored trading Jones as well as one of their big men. Their big men should have more value in trade even if it is an expiring contract in the case of Monroe. The Suns will have to wait until 12-23-17 to explore trading Len if that is their intent.

BIG BIG mistake. Not only waiving Jones but keeping Mike James. Stupidity to the extreme by the front office.
Overstatement maybe? We only have one pg if we let James go. WE HAVe no one else that can even play pg healthy.

They didn’t sign him to a multi year and there was no one else to cut—unless it was Len.

Who would handle playing PG if they let James walk? Keep in mind they still wouldn't have a roster spot available to them if they let him go.

I know in the scheme of things this might not be a big deal, but this really has gone a long way -- I was trying to hold out hope on this front office, and McD in particular -- but I cannot in good conscience support this front office anymore. DJJ wasn't getting any time, but he was oozing potential as a possible future defender extraordinaire. Why would you give up on that for Mike freaking James who has NO place in the #timeline?
Huh? DJJ was literally the worst defender I saw in the floor in every game I watched him play at every level. Are you basing this “future defender extraordinaire” on his leaping ability? Because that’s all he ever showed me. He’s end of bench fodder at best for any team.

That said, not a fan of James. The analogy someone made to the pickup game is spot on.

We obviously see things differently in more than this. So let's leave it at that, ok?

Surprised to see such strong reactions to this. Jones is not an NBA-level player, and James is one of only two PGs the Suns have. He is only signed for the rest of the year. It's really not a big deal.

3 days of not knowing if we had a house anymore. Luckily, the order was lifted this evening and we are back at home safe and sound. But what an ordeal, I wouldn’t wish that on anybody.

I'd glad you and yours are back home and safe. It's a terrible ordeal for sure.

Glad you’re fine. Glad you’re home. I really didn’t take offense at your comment. I took it at face value and figured no harm in dropping conversation. Stay safe.
