Say what you want about the draft "experts", but if you look at Mayock's mock drafts (especially the ones that occur the week before the draft), he is very good at slotting players in the first round. He has correctly predicted the Cards 1st round pick each of the 4 years he has been on NFL Network.

Interesting side note: Mayock and Charlie Casserly have LB Jerod Mayo going in the top 15 selections with Casserly having him going #7 to New England and Mayock having him going #15 to the Lions. That guy has come from being a late 2nd to early 3rd rounder to a potential top 10 selection.

It's only our perspective on him that's changed. Chances are he's always been held in high esteem by these teams, but that's only now coming to light. But, from where we sit it seems like his value is skyrocketing. In truth, his actual value has remained the same.

I doubt that 2 LBs go in the Top 10 picks. Linebackers always slide on draft day.

Good fit.

Mendenhall becomes our speed back while learning behind Edge. This pick could actually extend the shelf life of Edge. I can still see us getting 2 years from Edge if we can keep him under 20 carries per game.

I'd love it if Mendenhall was our pick. At RB in this draft, I'm only really sold on Mendenhall, Stewart, Ray Rice, and Mike Hart.

I like Mendenhall. From what I see, he's got excellent vision, and great patience. He's got a good burst and good speed and good strength. The one knock I can come up with is that I don't see him being all that elusive in terms of making moves to make tacklers miss. He makes them miss in other ways, though. If you do get him, be happy.

Crock o' nonsense, good buddy. No players except QBs learn by sitting. If we draft Mendenhall, it's to start him asap. There is no red-shirting in the NFL and most RBs have short careers.

I compared Mayo to Al Wilson in my mock, but after watching some more film on the guy, I believe this guy could be every bit as good as Patrick Willis.

I'd love for us to take him in the first. He will be a productive starter from day one.

:bigyawn: Tell that to all the RBs who weren't rushed into starting roles.

I like Mendenhall as well however the caveat on him is he really only had one productive year at Illinois. The good thing about him is as I have mentioned many times, he has not taken a whole lot of hits. It would be a very good pick up for the team.`

True that Mendenhall only had one monster year, but he did average 8.2 yards per carry in limited duty as a sophomore (tops in the Big Ten) and he was considered a blue chipper coming out of high school.

Mendenhall being successful is no fluke. The Illini faithful have been expecting him to break out like he did this past season.

last week Mayock was pimping Rivers after his pro-day; this week it's Mayo.

Who knows.... but, it isn't inconceivable that both could go top 10:

Baltimore and New Orleans both have CB/LB as primary needs.

No disrepect intended, but Stephen Jackson learned a lot by sharing time with Marshall Faulk early in his career.
