Gholston was mainly a DE in college. He did drop back in coverages occasionally but his primary job was getting after the QB. He is being projected more as a 3-4 rush LB but i think he will accell at either position. In fact, at first, he may be a better 4-3 rush end because that's what he does. But he has shown the athletic ability to make the full conversion.

Good fit.

Mendenhall becomes our speed back while learning behind Edge. This pick could actually extend the shelf life of Edge. I can still see us getting 2 years from Edge if we can keep him under 20 carries per game.

Is there really much a RB can learn from another RB? RB's are made of speed, instinct, heart, strength, vision. You do not learn these things. You have them or you do not. RB's are rarely late developers and are usually as good as they are going to get in the first couple of years baring injury.

Reading blocks? Proper form for pass protection? Solid route running? Effective offseason training? Watching film? Diagnosing defensive coverages?

You're right that backs are rarely "late bloomers," per se, but you are definitely a better football team if you have two backs that you know can tote the rock. Especially if one of the backs is a guy that the young'un has to respect.
