Brad Allis was on the radio today and said what he is hearing is there could be an agreement where Trier could get suspended for some games but not for the year. He also said he could be suspended for the year or not be suspended at all.

Thanks, Brad, for clarifying the situation [emoji52][emoji52][emoji52]

Thanks, Brad, for clarifying the situation [emoji52][emoji52][emoji52]

no kidding so basically any of the possible situations are in play.

I think the difference with Grier is Florida's appeal, they weren't saying he has asthma and this is in his meds, they were saying he was taking an over the counter supplment, he didn't know this was in it, honest mistake.

My guess is the NCAA has to determine with Trier is the asthma situation real or not. Again if he tested positive for albuterol he has a few things in play, has to prove he has been diagnosed with asthma, is supposed to have a medical exemption. And he has to prove that he's not just doing what tons of cyclists and body builders do, use it as a PED and get diagnosed with asthma to get the medical exemption. Both cycling and bodybuilding have developed accepted levels of it that would be consistent with use as an asthma medication and if the athlete exceeds those levels, they get suspended. My guess is that's what the NCAA is going to have to do here too, at what level do we decide he's not really using it for asthma he used it to lean out and he's suspended. Can't answer that.

that of course assumes the asthma medication rumor is real. Even if he doesn't play tonight it doesn't mean the decision is done, but the longer he doesn't play and Miller doesn't comment the more likely he's already suspended and they're just not announcing it because the circumstances qualify as protected under privacy rules.

I also suspect Miller is being smart here, openly complaining the NCAA is dragging their feet is usually not productive, they tend to not like being publicly called out in these sort of things so unless Miller really knew they had an ironclad appeal it would be unwise to do that.

an aside on this asthma rumor, near as I can tell there's really one guy that's the source of that, a Cal guy who posts on Scout boards and others under some variation of the name Shocky. I've exchanged PM's with him in the past he likes to accuse both UCLA and Arizona of recruiting violations so you see him on Scout boards off and on. Turns out he posted the PED rumors on a couple of UA boards and then said he has asthma they're appealing it based on that and people seem to have run with it. So no idea if he's the actual source but on some of these boards he clearly is. You can see replies with people saying I wonder if he just forgot to renew his medical exemption so I'm not actually convinced how much of that rumor is rumor and how much is message board speculation that has now become rumor.

Shocky floods every site with his crappy Cal blog. The guy has a serious grudge with Arizona. He posts the Mason parents' letter on that site every other day and says he played golf with an AZ booster who helped Stanley Johnson buy a car when he went to school. Guy is seriously obsessed.

He's been banned from Oregon and AZ sites. On the internet you can say whatever you want with no consequences.

He's also the guy who started all the Brandon Ashley's mom got money rumors which got interesting when she started deleting the links he was posting. He claimed that the mom moved from Oakland to Dublin right before Ashley verballed to UA. He kept saying he was living in Oakland for quite awhile and then the mom started a business from her house in Dublin and Shocky started posting links to her outside the house with Arizona bumper stickers and stuff. She has a very unusual first name literally the only person in the California phone book with that name so it was pretty easy to deduce it was her.

The mom eventually did an interview with an arizona paper where she said they actually moved to Dublin quite awhile earlier but Brandon was so proud of Oakland that he continued to say he was living in Oakland for several years until he had to start saying Dublin because of all the recruiting sites following him. Was sort of another way of saying because people are spreading rumors Arizona rented the house for us.

He was posting stuff about some UCLA recruits too over the years but I guess he lives in Arizona so he seems more concerned with UA right now. He was the guy who got very upset when UA boards started spreading rumors that Rabb got paid to go to Cal. Said it was sour grapes.

But in this case he seems to have started lots of the rumor about asthma so who knows.

Every time a recruit considers Cal and goes somewhere else he starts trashing their academics on Rivals. Guy is a loser.

I take it Trier isn't playing tonight in the exhibition game.

Apparently Comanche is also suspended indefinitely for academics.

Smh. Of course he is.

This is still Miller's best offensive team. I'm sure opposing team's #1 plan of attack will be to get Markk/Ristic in foul trouble cause they're unstoppable offensively. PJC looks much improved.

When Comanche gets back, he will be behind Pinder, who looks to be in the mold of Gene Edgerson. Ristic looks like a different player, he is playing defense, him and Laurie look like a great duo up front. The talent and depth on this team is the best since the 2005 team.

I assume Miller chose his words carefully. He didn't say Comanche is academically ineligible, just suspended for academics indefiniittely. That to me means he's not NCAA ineligible and will likely come back fairly soon.

Ray Smith has gotten hurt and went into the locker room three different times. He should probably stay in there at this point.

It's his knee and he was crying as he left the court. If this is ACL #3, Im going to cry for him.

Keeping score at home:

Allonzo Trier (suspension, indefinite)
Chance Comanche (suspension, indefinite)
Ray Smith (injury, unknown)
Talbot Denny (torn ACL, out for the season)

Didn't see it, watching UCLA's exhibition but I sure hope it's not another season ending injury, what a heartbreaking career for that kid so far.

How's Lonzo look? He's my favorite prospect regardless of that sling shot jumper. His vision is off the charts.

Terrible opponent, Lonzo had several alley oop dunks where he caught the pass and dunked. HIt a 3, some nice passes not a ton though. He is going to be terrific. He and Alkins are my 2 favorite freshmen in the conference although I think Fultz is the best freshman.

I feel so bad for Ray Smith. Does not look good and very well could be the end of his basketball career if he re-injured the knee. Everything I have read is he is a great kid. Hate to see stuff like this happen to a good person.

On many levels, I'm devastated.

Ray is a genuinely good kid and one of those who doesn't deserve the adversity he's been through the past two years. If indeed this is a torn ACL, again, I wouldn't fault him for just calling it a career, but it would be awful.

Trier being out is mind numbing because of the uncertainty of the situation, and Miller didn't make any comments that would elicit any feelings of confidence that he'll be back.

Comanche and his academics came out of left field and will probably take a semester to rectify.

That leaves 7 scholarship players on the roster. Basically, walk ons are going to get major run this season.

On top of UofA football struggling, the Cardinals underperforming, and the Suns continued ventures into the abyss, UofA hoops is what I had to look forward to and it's spiraling down the drain. I'm going to be sick to my stomach. Sports is not entertaining anymore.

Denny wouldn't have played significant minutes save for mop-up duty. Sucks for him, but this is not like losing Ray Smith last season.

Posted on 8/23, and I look like the biggest fool on earth.

I'd take Denny right now in a heartbeat.

Can't give my revised expectations until we know more about Comanche's situation. Is Miller making a point about missing classes or legitimately ineligible? If it's temporary and he gets his sh*t together the frontcourt is really good. The PG rotation is solid and there's a bunch of unknowns in between. I liked Pinder's activity and think he'll make an impact.

Agree with TJ that that all this secretive crap is getting very frustrating.

My take is Miller was very careful with his wording, suspended for academics, indefinite suspension. That is I don't think he's NCAA academically ineligible he's just suspended so I'd expect he does what he needs to do and gets back.

Really hoping Smith gets good news hate to see a kid get hurt that often

Hopefully this rumor is wrong but the rumor is Ray Smith did the ACL and MCL and is going to retire.

If true what a terrible run of bad luck for the kid.

Unfortunately true, he announced on twitter he's walking away from the game permanently but will remain at UA.

Poor kid I hate injuries but 3 times in 3 years.

That's just rough. Injured in the first game after 20 something practices in which he was fine.

Seems like this has gone from a F4 caliber team to a borderline tourney one. Gotta think we'll know something on Trier & Comanche by Nov 11th.

I hate to see guys get hurt. I was watching it on tape last night and after he got hurt I stopped it and deleted it off my DVR, just hated seeing Smith in pain like that.
