Your nephew is Jahvon Quinerly?
For real, Quinerly is your nephew? That's awesome.

UofA basketball players are walking gods on campus. By far, the most respected and cherished athletes. The athletic department definitely prioritizes the hoops program and Sean Miller is an absolute player's coach. Every alum speaks highly of him.

That's pretty amazing. We have a recruiting insider now. ;)

I wanted Quinerly for a few months and wanted him over Williams. We knew the staff wanted him to visit but i thought it was a long shot given Williams committed first. His game reminds me of Tony Parker and I think both kids could play together.

Uncle, is he leaning a certain direction?

This is so surreal. LOL.

It was less than 4 years ago, I was playing basketball with him, his father and his two brothers (both very talented in their own right, BTW) at a family picnic, and had him and his brothers literally hanging on me trying to stop me from shooting..........at the time I probably weighed as much as all three combined. Now he could break my ankles if I just tried to guard him once.

The funny thing is, is I am not a basketball fan, so it is funny that I talk to him all the time when the family gets together and forget he is a national name these days, LOL.

Again, he is a great young man so it is easy to forget he has SO MUCH going on in his life right now. And of course my cousin and her husband are very good parents and Jahvon reflects that.

His Uncle Joe (me) is a wet blanket, and tries to no say ANYTHING about the situation since I can only imagine how much Jahvon hears everyday from everyone. I talked to him only once about it (schools he has the opportunity to go to), and I hate to say it but getting attention from Stanford has non-sport value to it, thus that I where I would like to see him go. But, thankfully, I doubt he cares about what I have to say, and he has a good head on his shoulders so he will make the right choice for himself.

As for which way he is leaning? I have really no idea, I think he put it best, that if he has gone to visit a place then he is interested. He travels so much that if he is given a reason not to have to go out on another trip he will not bother. If he flew all the way out to AZ, then he is interested.

In regards to Villanova, that is obviously the closest to his family, and he was raised much like myself, in a very Italian lifestyle (that boy can eat!), so I would imagine some of the family will want him to stay local. Yet, again, he will make his own choice, so while it being local factors in, it is up to him how important that will be when looking at the big picture.

For the Wildcat fans here, I will say this, he would not have gone out to AZ if he was not 100% interested in going there.

I think he is going to take the summer to decide, but I honestly cannot tell you if he is leaning in a direction or anything, and if I were to acquire any information like that, I would not blab about it anyway, that is his time in the sun when he declares, and I want him to enjoy that since he has worked extremely hard, and sacrificed a lot to get where he is today.

IF he does end up going to AZ, you will have a stand up young man, great character.

Thanks for the fun conversation, I wish I was more help on the sports side of things, but figured I would post something about him since I saw he visited AZ.

PS - LOL! Just thought of the hypothetical situation, where he goes to AZ and has a bad game or something, and I see a "Jahvon Quinerly sucks eggs" thread. I'd probably screen capture it and send it to him with the caption, "Now you have finally made the big time" LOL. #iwllnotbemikestonessister

Haha. Awesome RM. sounds like a good young man from a good family. Would love to see him at Zona but he's got to make the right decision for himself.

As long as JQ doesn't change his name to Gabe York, we won't bash him too hard [emoji6]

Sounds like Miller is pushing for a commitment before JQ takes anymore visits. Heard that if he makes it to the 'Nova OV, this recruitment is over. He also needs to understand that there isn't a Baja Cafe in Radnor Township ;)

Very tangentially Arizona related but have people seen the story on Mohammed Bamba and his brother?

The brother, not Sidiki Johnson but another brother Ibrahim Johnson, released a 22 minute video on social media where he alleges that Bamba has been getting cash and gifts from a financial adviser and now the brother says I reported him to the NCAA and he won't be able to play at Texas! The brother admits that he informed Bamba he intended to become a sports agent to represent Bamba, Bamba said no, so to get revenge, he's reporting him to the NCAA.

I had read a bit about this before on a UK board, the NCAA had apparently already investigated the whole thing and decided it was a pre existing relationship, the guy was financially backing a program that was both sports and academically inclined and he was paying for virtually every kid in the school including Bamba and this is from like 2008 so nearly 10 years ago.

But I guess now the NCAA has to investigate again because the brother is alleging violations.

Talk about cold blooded. Ibrahim JOhnson and Sidiki Johnson are brothers.

Lol

Miller has admitted he doesn't even watch the NBA. I don't think there would be interest by pro teams in Miller anyways.

This would be a major shakeup though...

It wouldn't stop. the interesting thing is I bet Miller would be on the UK short list to replace Calipari because he's an elite recruiter.

I highly doubt this happens. Knicks are not hiring another person w/o FO experience.

With James Dolan in charge anything is possible, maybe he hires Whoopi Goldberg as HC & Spike Lee as GM.

If Cal bolts they won't get nearly as many kids unless UK lands another elite recruiter, I think UA would pony up enough dough to keep him even though UK has more, I think Miller is happy on the west coast.

I guess it comes down to what Miller's ultimate goal is. It's hard to argue there's a better situation than UK if you want to win an NC.

Not saying he can't win one at UA, hell he might get it this year if I'm reading the P12 schedule right he doesn't have to play either Oregon or UCLA on the road which of course means they don't play USC in LA either. So the top 3 teams other than UA(projected), Miller doesn't have to play any of them on the road this year. Perfect setup for a loaded team to have a monster conference season get a 1 seed and go all the way.

But it's hard to argue it's not easier to do that at UK, it's just the perfect setup.

Cherry to USC announced today

And Porter. Enfield building a monster.

I love Cherry, I'm not as high on Porter and there are reportedly academic issues with him, but he might be NCAA eligible. They have 3 kids committed in the class now. It'll be interesting to see what happens with O'Bannon. There were late rumors onUCLA boards that he nearly bailed on SC right at the end over concerns about PT but he wound up sticking to his commitment. Now they have Brooks, Porter and Cherry, Porter directly threatens PT for O'Bannon as well.

They are loading up on good players will be interestiung to see if they can keep them all

If Enfield makes the F4 before Miller I might be done with sports.

Yeah it's been apparent for weeks now that Nike is really pushing to get Bagley to a Nike school. A bunch of effort to get him to leave Sierra Canyon and rumors he was going to move to Kentucky or move back to Arizona and now this USC thing comes out of nowhere. A skeptic would say there's a bag man involved.

I know the claim is the primary source of income for the dad is Nike paying him as an AAU coach, and I know there is some connection with the grandfather and ASU, and the dad and Duke, but the USC thing appears to have come out nowhere.

If it's true I hope he announces right away so UCLA can focus on Jordan Brown. It will also be interesting to see who at USC suddenly decides to transfer, they don't have an open scholarship. It's fascinating to me that the same media reporting these rumors isn't doing what they did with Bazz and UCLA where they kept asserting Adidas was running the recruitment. We have a kid who is the best recruit in the country suddenly out of nowhere potentially committing to USC, and reclassing, they will have to run a kid off to make room for him if he reclassifies, and somehow Gary Parrish doesn't find that worth speculation but openly did with Bazz a few years ago?

Maybe he learned his lesson about doing it then but it sure looks to me like what I said back then, when Nike steers a kid nobody bats an eye.

From what is in Zagsblog quoting Bagley's dad, it sounds like they're somewhat denying the rumors. He told reporters clearly CBS knows more about our plans than I do so ask them if we're reclassifying.

He said there are 6 schools and they will visit all 6, Duke, USC next the 26th and 27th of July, Arizona is the first week of August. he said they will get UCLA, Kentucky and Kansas too, best way they can. I assume he means UCLA will get an unofficial visit and Kentucky and Kansas the other 2 official visits.

SC is maxed out on scholarships aren't they? I mean Enfield would do what needs to be done I suppose.

Bagley's dad is from Durham N.C. and I heard his grandma lives there. Not sure how that will affect things but it went from UCLA/UK/AZ to USC/Duke. If he's being steered away from UCLA then the Nike stuff is certainly sounding legit. His dad seems pretty hands-on.

If he goes to USC there will probably be some hurt feeling amongst players that decided to spurn the draft.

Yes SC has no scholarships so someone would have to be runoff if he goes to SC in 17. and yes I'm betting one of Metu and Boatwright would not be happy if Bagley showed up.

The dad seems to be saying the reclass rumor is not true but who knows. The odder thing of course is how SC came out of nowhere a few months ago to now allegedly leading. I get that Bland and hart connect with kids but it's usually the local ones, Bagley isn't really local he's been in LA 2 years. Maybe it took them that long to build this relationship with him but it sure seems like Nike wants him at a Nike school and if it's not Duke, UK or Arizona, and he wants to be in LA as has been rumored for awhile, it's SC since UCLA is Under Armour.

UCLA is still supposed to get a vist so we'll see but it sure sounds like the recruitment has fundamentally changed. Will be interesting to see if anybody drops out and just goes after Jordan Brown all in

UA needs to move on as well, I think he end up at DUKE, he'll be showcased on a NC favorite with a legendary coach and there would be no drama with teammates feeling shafted and end up like a Ben Simmons / LSU situation where teammates feel alienated because coaches are going to focus on showcasing Bagley to keep him happy, because if he or his dad aren't happy he could possibly pull a Fultz and shut it down early and wait for the draft.

UA needs to go after one of the Browns (Moses or Jordan) who may end up being 2 year guys.

Arizona is the preseason #1 and won't take much of a step back the following season, if at all. Why can't Bagley showcase his talents at UofA? I mean, the #1 player in 2017 elected to showcase his talents at Arizona.

Miller has been recruiting this kid for 4 years and he's been to Tucson over a half dozen times. If Bagley doesn't reclassify, Arizona is still very much in the mix. You don't give up on recruiting the #1 player in the nation in any recruiting class. This is not an LSU/UW situation. Miller runs the show and is the face of the program. Simmons and Fultz, as players, were the face of their respective programs. In addition, unlike LSU and UW, Arizona will contend for the conference and the NC, so there would be no reason for Bagley to shut it down.

As it stands today, unless he reclassifies, Arizona is in the thick of this recruitment.

You don't move on from a surefire top-3 pick unless he moves on from you...

Also, its early but it's starting to sound like it'd be an upset of Bol Bol doesn't end up in Tucson. Arizona is in the thick of it for RJ Barrett in 2019 as well. If Miller breaks thru this season you can guarantee a top-3 class every year.
