I think this is a valid point. I don't think that the play itself was bad...it was set up well, executed ok and caught them off guard. But on the road, it is a good idea to take the points when available.

I don't trust Rackers though, so that probably plays into my thoughts on the matter.

d, you're just making up facts now. they had a safety watching for it, he read it, reacted, and shut it down WELL SHORT of a first down. we didn't catch anyone off guard other than us fans who were flabbergasted by the call . . .

Shane your wrong!!! The play was there for a 1st down and probably a TD. Execution by the punter keep the play from working. Johnson threw the ball like a schoolgirl causing Tuman to have to wait on the ball and thus get caught by a defender coming from the other side of the field.
I agree 100%

BS. We gained 10 or 11 yards on the play. Yes it was short, but they were caught off guard. The defender had to make a great play coming across the field to stop him. The fact that a punter was able to send a duck to a wide open tight end and he had room to run at all shows we caught them off guard.

You always have someone spying, by the way. The spy made a great play. That's all there is to it.

People are making way too big a deal out of a play we simply failed on. It wasn't a bad call. You should be flabbergasted that we can't tackle a 7 year old girl, but not because we took a gamble and simply failed.

We didn't lose this game on the trick try. We lost this game because we couldn't tackle period. This was going to be a tough game, against a very good team. We played very well in the first half and let them back in the game in the third. The two TDs in under a minute was devestating. After half time we marched straight down the field, the defense came on after nearly 30 minutres of rest time and let them moved down the field ,to score in no time at all. Next week the lambs at their house. Kurt should remember playing there and beat them up. 5-3 after next week.!

Bad Tackling was certainly a culprit in this game. But he bottom line is we lost because we left 4 points on the field and gave 7 up on Edges stupid fumble at our own 20 yard line! It wasnt bad tackling when they left Steve Smith on an island with Rod Hood. Who will lose that battle 95% of the time.

1. Antrel Rolle whiffing on his tackle on Steve Smith because he was looking for personal glory with a big hit was the number one reason we lost today. It was a selfish thing to do, and an INCREDIBLY stupid move on his part. He is a safety, there is no one behind him to make a tackle after he does something that incredibly stupid. To add on to this, Eric Green should not be able to get out of the fact he screwed this situation up as much as Rolle did.

2. Edgerrin James fumbling in our redzone. I like James but in the same week that he complains about how many touches he is getting, he goes off and shows why he is starting to lose carries to Hightower. YOU CANNOT fumble the football in that situation. On the road it is hard enough, but that was a killer. Our team went in the toilet after that play.

Those are my two main reasons. Say what you want about this and that but above are two plays that are avoidable, that cost our team 14 points.

- It should be noted that our tackling sucked all day, and many were guilty.

- As much as I would like to get mad about JJ Arringtons non-catch to INT, or the fact Warner through a bad ball, I can't. When you are a pass team those things happen. Yet, the fact that we could have scored on that drive is hard to handle.

- As much as I would like to get on Gandy for his hold at the end of the game I can't. He either holds him or Warner gets sacked. That pass doesn't get off without the hold.

- It should also be noted that Steve Smith is a CARDINAL KILLER!!!!! He now has straight games were he took a small 5 yard or less pass and took it to the house.

Yet, this thread is for venting about what we all thought went wrong. So, of course it has a negative vibe, rightly so. But I think this game is good for the team. We played against a really good team, and had a really good chance to come away with a victory.

We have way too many players in our secondary who don't wrap up on tackles and this is exactly why every game we have at least one big run against us that should have been stopped...This is why we have lost 2 games this year so far.

Edge is a good player, but just way too slow, and the second best RB on our roster... on plays that he takes two steps to get started, Hightower is two steps closer to the hole... Hightower should be the starter and the more he gets the ball... the more he proves it.

Bickley suggested this morning that this game was the end of Edge at a starter

he pointed out two plays:

first the fumble, but also--

a well designed screen play that he dropped that looked like it was going for big yards

Sadly, Edge hasn't been reliable as a receiver all season IMO. It's likely his swan song this season, but before it's all said and done, he could make some solid contributions. :koolaid:

How about we redistribute some of Shane's A$FN wealth to those of us who are less fortunate? :) Man, he's leaving us in the dust.

Yes it is. And no it wasnt a good call on the FG It wasnt a good call because we obviously dont have the personnell speed wise to execute it. Donald your opinion is jaded. You think every gadget call is a good one. Have all year.

You normally take almost sure points when you can get them. Rackers has a 90% or better chance of putting points on the board. We already had a lead and a chance to extend it with the half coming up. What were the chance of us scoring on that gadget play? Low at best as we had a guy throwing who had a weak arm and a runner who did not have enough speed. I say that play does not work 70% of the time. Going into the half with a 10 point lead after just scoring sure is more encouraging to a team than not taking 3 points and blowing a strange call to end the half. If you have a 21 point lead I can see calling that play. Not at that time and at that point in the game. Bad call Whiz. Not just in hindsight but from the beginning. I hope your learned something from this.

I suspect that after Fox called the timeout that Whiz did not have the same confidence you have in Rackers... I know THAT sucks, but it may have contributed to Whiz's timing on the call:shrug:

Whiz seems to think that we can't win w/out trying at least one trick play every game. Seriously, every damn game. You think after a while teams might start looking for it?

Maybe we should try just beating the other team.

I do not mind trick plays but not when you take almost sure points off the board. The general thinking has always been in the NFL you do not take points off the board. We had a 90% chance or better of putting points on the board. The timing was just wrong on this play. The half was about to end. We had a 7 point lead we could have made 10. The players could have gone into the locker room on a high note and not one that left every one wondering what have we done? I do not think an experienced head coach would have done this. Whiz will learn from this.

So even if we get that field goal, and the extra point. There would of been less than 2 minutes on the clock, and the Panters had the ball on our 40 yard line....Odds weren't in our favor anyways

Not to excuse Edge from his fumble, BUT.....

Lutui or Brown, or both, should not get off scot free of blame which seems to be happening. Any time a DT breezes through the line without being touched an assignment has been blown. And, bad things are almost certain to happen.

Plus the nifty cutback by hightower to score the rushing td. Edge doesn't make that play.

Oh, I don't know about that. It's not TH's burst that got him that TD, it was his vision. Say what you will about Edge these days, but he still has really good vision.

Hey Edge! How many fingers am I holding up???

For me the defense clearly lost this game...

FYI... of all the games yesterday, only 3 teams lost that scored 23 or more points (one was the cards)... 3 of 13... That's on the D...

exactly. and wiz shouldn't be making this call unless he is damn sure the johnson can freakin' throw it like a man to tuman, who, by the way went down way too easily in my book.

Wasn't catchable by anyone other than Larry who has the size and hops to bring that down.

Terrible throw by Warner to the shortest guy on the field. That was all on Warner...he earned that INT.

No he didn't.

If the ball hits you on the hands you catch it -- period!

i've got to say, the thought crossed my mind. I have NEVER seen a FG "iced" when it wasn't at the end of a game or even end of the half.
That's precisely WHY he iced the kicker. Everyone expects the icing with 4 seconds left. No one expects it when he did it.

Similarly, no one expects a fake FG on 4th and 16. People who say the play was a failure are just being results oriented. No, it didn't work that particular time, but it will work > 50% of the time.

Only Larry or Q makes that catch. The ball was high and sailing. To a short running back. Bad throw by Kurt. Terrible. Dude was wide open...hit him in the chest, period.

So that's what is required to complete a pass in the NFL -- hitting them in the chest?

Got it.

It sure isn't sailing a ball 3 feet above the head of the shortest guy on the field, even though he's wide open.
