Donald it wasn't that high, JJ just can't catch its not all on Warner sorry if it hits your hands in the NFL you should catch it.

LOL, I just watched it. It was way too high. Not even close. And now I've been watching Peyton Manning sticking the ball right in guy's numbers who are wide open. Now he just throws a ball too high and Wayne couldn't bring it in. That was a bad throw. Just like Kurt's was...Wayne got a hand on it, and didn't bring it down. And he's a WR. And not the shortest guy on the field. Face it, Warner sailed the ball. He has a tendency to do that, btw.

I did also just watch the fake FG, and that was a terrible throw by the punter...holy crap. It was a nice reverse angle, and that ball could have been rolled to him faster.

Whatever, I'm done arguing about it. It was a terrible throw, and whether JJ tipped it or not it would have been picked. It was sailing. I expect a bit more out of my QB than throwing high balls that a) get receivers killed or b) are practically uncatchable.

Sorry I have high standards and am not going to blame a receiver for a QBs very bad throw.

I also think we are all a HUGE bit spoiled by Larry and Quan.

you know, people have been saying "oh, even if we kicked the FG" the D still couldn't yada, yada, yada, yada, but we all know the NFL is all about momentum and having the lead COMPLETELY evaporate was a killer. It took the air out of the D and gave new life to the Panthers. Imagine if we kicked the FG and took a 13-3 lead into the half and then came out and did exactly what we did (and seemingly always do) at the beginning of the 2nd half and march right down for a TD. That puts us up 20-3, which is a three score game and a big difference from 17-3 and everyone knows it. That changes the way the Panthers play and it changes the way we would. To say that that play didn't have an effect because of what the final score showed or how the D played ignores the ripple effect that play would have had.

It's a lot more disheartening looking up at that scoreboard knowing you're going up against a great O down 3 scores than it is down 2.

I've defended Wiz a lot of on this board, but the 4th and 16 call was just an awful decision.

do you not understand that dirk is a punter? not a pro qb? he threw the ball like he throws the ball! and i'm pretty sure that whis knows dirk isn't a qb, but he put his trust in that punter to make a throw that would pick up 16 yards?!? stupid. it's just stupid.

The passer is one reason that was not a smart play. No one expected it because such a play in that position when you had a 90% chance of putting up 3 with the half winding down. There was a good reason they did not expect that play because it was unlikely to work.

Whisenhunt admits the fake was a stupid call:

On such surprise plays, "When they work, they're good calls. When they don't work, they're bad calls," Whisenhunt said.

"It was a bad call because it didn't work. I accept that."

At the same time, "I don't think it changes my perspective on whether we should run it or not.

"The only thing I will say is fourth-and-15 is probably a little long to run that fake. I have to do a better job of making sure I understand how far I think the fake can go.

"I thought we could get it because of the way they were rushing.

"Unfortunately, we didn't (convert), so I should be criticized for that."

He's taking responsibility for it, but I don't think he's even saying he wouldn't try it again...much less calling it "stupid."

I saw you reading the thread, and figured you'd post exactly what I was thinking.

You did.

"stupid" is faster to type than "he didn't really understand how far the fake can go, which isn't the smartest coaching."

"The only thing I will say is fourth-and-15 is probably a little long to run that fake. I have to do a better job of making sure I understand how far I think the fake can go.

i don't know how ""The only thing I will say is fourth-and-15 is probably a little long to run that fake. I have to do a better job of making sure I understand how far I think the fake can go" can be any more clear than "THIS WAS A BAD CALL".

good grief guys. it's okay to say maybe I was wrong about that call. even the head coach was able to do so.

He's wrong about the call because it didn't work. It's total revisionist history. I would love to see how many people would have been complaining had the players - you know executed the play - and we take a 17 - 3 lead there. Then's he's being called brilliant.

Here's my take. I want Wisenhunt taking these types of chances and I am okay with the fact that its occasionally not going to work. In fact I expect that.

Apparently he saw something in the field goal defense on the play prior and he wanted to put big time pressure on Fox for icing the kicker and him getting second guessed. Personally I like those huevos.

Lets call a spade a spade - Johnson threw a duck and the Griffith kid made a GREAT play. I don't blame Wisenhunt at all. They probably have run that play many a time in practice and Dirk just choked with the actual pressure.

For all of you who are going to bash him for these types of calls. I expect you to be hear saying they are equally as stupid when they work.

I've been a fan of Whiz's gambles, especially last year when it seemed like we needed that edge because we weren't on par with other teams yet, and I've agreed with some of his calls this year but that doesn't mean I have to agree with every risk he takes. When you're playing on the road where you historically suck, have a chance to take a two score lead on the 2nd best team in the conference heading into the half and you put a 4th and 16 play in the hands of a punter and a 3rd string TE? I'm sorry, but that's dumb any way you cut it.

I think it's a great call...at home. On the road it's a gamble we don't need.

I still won't go as far to call it "stupid, " though.

Have to add the defense to that list. They played very poorly in the second half.

Defense lost this game. Bottom line is we scored enough point to win most NFL games and the Defense gave up to many points to win an NFL game. All the other stuff is interesting and worth talking about but as the very old saying goes in the NFL "Defense Wins Games".

Definitely not stupid... I agree...

The call shows that Whiz is willing to be different. Indeed, it shows he is fully aware of the NEED to be different, and to do different things in order to get this franchise turned around. I love the call and had Johnson thrown the ball earlier, I believe Tuman would have converted...
It's a gamble for sure... However, by taking the gamble, Whiz continues to demonstrate to his team that he is willing to risks because he possesses enormous faith, trust and confidence in his team and their ability to deal with the downside that might come from taking these sort of gambles... That is a very strong message to a team that has never had a coach demonstrate that degree of trust in them...

Gambles always lead to second-guessing - particularly when they fail... I personally loved the call and the issue of it not succeeding is not an issue at all to me... The conditions were all in our favor in terms of the element of surprise, the fact that the Panthers had already shown their hand (as did we) prior to the "ice" timeout...
I love the call... love the faith our head coach has in his team... Our defense wound up spitting the bit which I'm sure Whiz did not envision. However, the call for the fake FG was a ballsy, gutsy and motivational call - and I believe the team will be stronger because of it...

Like Rackers would have made the kick anyway. It was right there in his danger zone. Between 24 and 49 yards.

I don't know how everything else in that quote doesn't point to him saying it was a bad call for anything other than it not working.

When they work, they're good calls. When they don't work, they're bad calls," Whisenhunt said.

"It was a bad call because it didn't work. I accept that."

At the same time, "I don't think it changes my perspective on whether we should run it or not.

"I thought we could get it because of the way they were rushing.

"Unfortunately, we didn't (convert), so I should be criticized for that."

Whis took responsibility for having a bit too much faith in what his guys could do out there. But he doesn't think it was a stupid call, and in the only realm he thinks it is a bad call is because it didn't work...which is pretty much what several people have said about the complaints about the call. It's only dumb when it doesn't work. It's the first freaking thing the guy is quoting on.

You need to rethink what "can be any more clear" means because it is not even remotely close to clear that Whis is upset about making the call. He's only upset that it didn't work.

To talk about trick plays though, I wasn't too keen on the JJ toss to Boldin. I'd rather have Boldin throwing to a streaking Breaston, or vice versa, if you are going to run that play.

That's where Boldin in the H Back would have been great.

I haven't seen us run that in a long time though.

i think they DID execute the plan. they executed it as well as a PUNTER can throw a ball and as well as an apparently OUT OF SHAPE, BLOCKING TE can catch and run a ball. that's the point. know the down and distance and whether the personnel you have in place can execute the play to success. they executed it, but they didn't have the skillset to execute it to success on a 4th and 15. that's the coaches fault, not the players. dirk was supposed to throw a pass, he did. tuman was supposed to catch the pass and run, he did. the pass was looping and tuman was slow, but that's what you get when you have a non-qb throwing to a slow te for FIFTEEN FRIGGIN' YARDS!

dirk was supposed to throw a pass, he did. !

You have really low standards for a "pass." That pass was bad for anyone. Including my 8 year old daughter who would have put more zip on it.

I doubt Dirk throws it that poorly when that play is practiced, or Whis would have tore that page out of the book. I watched that throw last night, and was shocked at how long it took to get there. Tim Duncan gets a free throw off faster than that ball got to the TE.

Ooooh. We have a winner. A front line winner. Pay the do's and rake the don'ts. Shooter keeps the dice.
