Sean Weatherspoon was on the Cards radar back in 2010. There were alot of reports that he was the target for the Cards if he fell. Atlanta ended up taking him 4-5 picks before we selected.

He has an injury history, but that guy paired with Daryl Washington would be scary. Weatherspoon is just as fast as Washington and probably brings more thump when he tackles. He would be a terrific pick up for the Cards!!

Actually you can start talking to the potential free agents on Saturday at 1PM Phoenix time. Contract can't be singed until tuesday March 10.

Bottom line, if players don't re-sign with their teams today or Saturday morning, the flood gates will be open.

I think there's a fair deal to make. I think that Weatherspoon is worth the risk. We missed out on prime years from Kyle Vanden Bosch because we chickened out on a guy with two knee surgeries (a decision that I agreed with at the time, BTW).

That said, I'd rather spend $3.5M this year on a chance that Weatherspoon is healthy and excellent than Dan Williams--and I love Dan Williams.

The Raiders plan to let free agent C Stefen Wisniewski test the open market.

Wisniewski isn't expected to be re-signed after the Raiders failed to get an extension done during the season. He's been a full-time starter since entering the league in 2011 -- missing only three games over the last four seasons. 25-year-old Wisniewski should draw interest from multiple teams. He's seeking a contract in the range of $3 million annually.

I'm not over the moon for any of the guys available. I think that if a guy is available in free agency at that position, he probably has some warts. I'd prefer to look at the draft and add a second-tier player.

But I trust the front office to make a smart decision.

I fully expect the Cards to sign Wisniewski and Brooks Reed. Beyond those two, I think our free agent class will be a collection of older vets and younger dudes who are mostly under the radar.

As for the FAs Jurecki mentioned, my preferences are

1. Wisniewski
2. Weatherspoon
3. Irving
4. Shipley

For me, there's a pretty big gap between Spoon and Irving. I don't want to see Shipley here at all, so he's a very distant fourth.

I have little doubt that they can structure a deal that KC can't match (I think they might be over the cap or right at it already). But Keim loves his draft picks. If we're mortgaging the future for right now, giving up 2 first rounders to pay a guy at the absolute peak of his value is a way to dismantle the next decade to make one, maybe two, runs at a championship.

I'm not advocating for Brooks Reed, although I do think he could fare better at ILB than he did at OLB. I just think he'll be a target. I'm also basing this belief on nothing but a hunch, so I could be way off.

Totatlly agree with you there. Greg Hardy is probably the only proven elite FA pass rusher out there right now, but I don't the the Cards touch him with a 10 foot pole due to his off the field issues. Everyone else has major warts as you mention.

Altough the Cardinals haven't been able to draft an elite pass rusher in over a decade. Hopefully they can find one this year.

I dont disagree. But you would easily give up 2 (late) 1st round picks to get a 26 year old pass rusher who is proven like that. They dont hit the market often. Would be a huge gamble of course and I go bakc and forth if thats the right thing to do.

It's definitely a gamble. It's an interesting experiment. I was looking at future contracts and basically the only players we have signed for 2017 are Palmer, Peterson, Campbell, Veldheer and the 2015 draft class. Losing a first-round pick is a possible future cornerstone piece for ideally 5-10 years. Keim also highly values his ability to compound the value of draft picks.

I can't see him doing it, but we'll see.
