Rosenthal is a decent player, nothing special but would give us needed depth and start if needed.

Well the sooner the better. Offensive lines are all about chemistry, and the sooner this guy gets in the quicker he will be able to gel with his teammates. Get it done.

MJ said he could be had for a 6th or 7th rounder. I think that sounds kind of cheap.

I would be very happy to get him. I thought he was still starting, but I guess he lost his job to Marcus Johnson.

Excellent post, Arthur.

How about trading SS Robert Griffith for T Mike Rosenthal...both make about the same salary and with SS Tank Williams out for the year, a veteran like Griffith, whose natural position IS strong safety, would give the Vikes a player of immediate need...same for the Cards in adding Rosenthal.

and then, I assume Aaron fransisco would take over the starting FS spot?

Thats why they signed Dwight Smith. I think their safeties are Darren Sharper and Dwight Smith.

I don't like this trade.

Who'd play behind Francisco? And isn't Rosenthal pretty brittle?

Jack Brewer...who is a lot better than people know...

The thing is...the Cardinals may end up waiving Griffith anyway...especially if Aaron Francisco wins the FS job...Brewer is an ace on STs...Griffith may be the odd man out, unless they keep him to be Wilson's backup at SS where Griffith has always played until the Cardinals added him last year...but what about Ernest Shazor? Would the Cards keep all 5 safeties?

How does a player the coaches and teammates like, good locker room guy and leader go from the Starting FS spot in preseason game 2 to "the odd man out" 2 weeks later?

Better than Fred, but not much. Strictly a depth acquisition. He really isn't very good but with Ross' injury tendencies I would cough up a 7th.

Anybody that has starting experience and is getting a endorsement from the Loney would be an upgrade to what we have.

A more sensible trade component (rather than Griffin) would be one of our surplus WR's. The Vikings are about to lose Koren Robinson for a long, long time and they lost Burleson to Seattle in the off-season. They desperately need receiving help.

I'd think that on our part, the deal would hinge on (a) whether the right side of our O-Line starts to look better and (b) how well our backup receivers behind BJ look. (My guess is that Minny wouldn't accept a rookie - they'd probably look for veteran receiving help - i.e. BJ).

The question could very well boil down to whether or not Rosenthal represents fair value for BJ - or whether they'd have to sweeten the pot a little more. Or whether anything short of a surefire starting RT would be acceptable for a #3 receiver on the verge of a break-thru season.

Stop it with Griffith Mitch. He is a good player and team leader. Rosenthal stinks, I wouldn't give up a 7th for him. Who would replace Griffith, our 2nd year undrafted rookie Francisco. Why do you think he would be a good replacement, was it because the second team D got torched today with him at FS.

Then you go on to say Jack Brewer is better than most people think. Pure crap. He hasn't had a pick or a game tackle since his friggin' rookie year. Brewer is a ST guy who you fell in love with and months ago predicted would start.
