Do the Cards have one this year ? It seems like everyone has gotten worse as the year went on. The only guy I can remotely see an improvement in is Andre Roberts. LSH is having a good year but he was pretty good last year too. I did think Keith was getting better but he's now out.

I'd take Rashard Johnson. He was a fringe roster player last season, and he's come back and surpassed Matt Ware on the depth chart. He's not making a ton of plays (although I think he had his first NFL pick a couple weeks ago), but he's on the screen every once in a while.

I'd put:

1. Rashard Johnson
2. Steve Breaston (much more impact than he had last season, IMO)
3. Karlos Dansby
4. Alan Branch
5. Michael Adams (didn't show that he stinks until Week 12)
...
50. Tim Hightower
51. Beanie Wells
52. Calais Campbell
53. Adrian Wilson

Improvement as a rookie? He shown absolutely nothing in his major role of PR and had exactly one catch worth remembering this year. He has potential but how is he 'improving?'

Compared to what he was doing in training camp and pre season he has absolutely improved. If you can't see that you aren't looking.

Didn't say he was all star. Said he is probably the most improved. He went form bobbling or dropping damn near every punt and pass to catching whats thrown his way and being a sure handed PR.

Either his route running is superb or the othe teams aren't even bothering to cover him because I have watched him on several instances get wide open only to have our idiot QB force the ball in to double or triple coverage and not even look his way. I'd say he is improving too--especially considering what he looked like in pre-season. He went from being IMO a lost rookie to looking like a guy who is a solid roster guy and worth being patient with.

Roberts has some nice short area quickness and moves -- he could make for a good slot guy and perhaps give a little of what Wes Welker gives the Pats

BTW: I was just thinking along the lines of the thread title today as well -- I was struck by how few and far between the "upside" surprises have been compared to the disappointments.

I guess my nomination would be the Hyphen. He has turned into a very nice player to have.

He should be our starting RB. Laugh all you want.

Yes he is our MIP

No he shouldnt be our starter. He is too small and would take a beating in the backfield. Additionally, his two assets are kick returns (which he is a pro bowler in that position IMO) and situational back. Using him as a starter and a kick returner would diminish his #1 responsibility on the team. Same reason why Sproles is not the every down back in SD. Too small and the beating he would take on his small frame would put him out 5 games into the season.

Backs like Timmy and Beanie are built physically to be starters. The problem really isnt with the RBs themselves, but rather the sub par run blocking. Ive said this many times but neither can get to the 2nd level because holes either never develop or close up in a New York minute. Watch our run blocking and watch that of the Jets. World of difference. You could drive a Mack truck through any of the holes the linemen for the Jets make for their backs; while with ours, you couldnt fit a piece of tissue paper. Also, a good fullback would help the cause. Maui'a is not the answer. He lacks awareness of his assignment and whiffs on blocks way too many times.

You guys do realize this is for "most improved" right?

Because LSH was a flat out stud last season as well. Many of us were pissed that he wasn't a ST's PBer last year.

I agree. The kid is a work in progress but I'm happy to see he is moving in the right direction. You can see him gaining confidence with each game. He was my choice as well.

Right... so, explain how you selected Roberts as "most improved" when he was playing college ball last year??

I'd have to say Branch or Rashard Johnson, they haven't been great but they didn't do squat last year and they've actually showed up.

Most Improved Players? I vote for two:

Shane and DuckJake. Smart, concise, insightful, comedic and most of all good route running (or sitting as the case might be...)
