Just got an alert that Memphis is indeed shopping Parsons and the #4.

And here is a way you can get into the top 5 again with a combination of picks, players, and taking on bad salary.

Not sure where it originated, it popped up as an alert from Bleacher Report. Which isn't saying much, since they specialize in sending alerts about Lebron James eating breakfast.

Saw a CBS article now too, and various sites are picking it up. The original source material does seem to be a mock draft from Michael Scotto of The Atlantic, who claimed he heard from sources.

The Athletic is a pay site that hires top writers, so I hope this has at least some substance behind it.

I’m pretty sure we don’t have the cap space for this.

We would include players going the other way, I'm sure. I think Memphis is actually a good fit for Warren. If you include his contract I bet it works.

Grizzlies give:
#4
Parsons

Suns give:
#16
#31
Warren
Chriss
Bucks Pick
Heat Pick

Maybe take away one of those assets, just because adding Parsons makes it very difficult to add anyone else the next two years. The Suns would potentially be competing with the Clippers, whose assets line up pretty well with the Grizzlies needs:

Uh? I thought we were one of the teams with type of cap space for these opportunities. That said, I would think Memphis would want someone for now to work with Conley and Gasol. So we would likely have to move Warren with a bevy of picks. And that could even further facilitate cap space, if necessary.

Warren
16th
31st
Milwaukee
Our 2019 top-10 protected or becomes 2020 top 5 protected or becomes 2021 unprotected

For

Parsons
4th

Parsons isn’t worth his contract but he can still play. So he slots into warrens minutes.

Memphis might go for it because they get a 20pt/game scorer, big time cap relief, 3 first round picks and the top 2nd this year. That’s a big haul for shedding an albatross contract.

I think it would be a good deal for the Clips, the real question is if Memphis would take it--they may be more interested in getting someone to help them win now, since that would be the only reason they'd be trading the #4. Warren and Chriss would be intriguing, because they could potentially help them still compete for the playoffs, and add in a few picks in the future, and it might be interesting.

Looks like we're basically on the same page here haha

We came out pretty close except I didn’t include Chriss (though I’d consider it if it was the deal closer) and swapped out our own protected pick for Miami’s (I think miami’s 2021 will be higher than ours and I don’t want to lose that lotto ticket).

They’d be getting Tobias Harris from clippers which is likely better than Warren and Chriss. But their draft haul would be less.

Yeah. I'd value Miami's pick probably the highest of all those assets, but I figured Memphis might too and was willing to include it if necessary.

Don't forget that Big Sauce is non-guaranteed for about 5 million so his salary can be included in a trade, but the receiving team can immediately cut him for cap relief.

We also still have 6.5 mil in cap space for last season and I believe trades before the draft would be under last season's numbers.

So that's over 11 mil in cap relief right there.

And that 4 slot is just soooo juicy too. Doncic, Bagley, or young would be available.

Doncic/young
Booker
JJ
Bender/Chriss
Ayton

Or

Payton
Booker
JJ
Bagley
Ayton

Sign me up for either (but we would really need to figure out spacing with that second unit - but I’d like to try!)

Bucks pick is nothing as is Chriss. Replace them with our unprotected pick and we may have something.

Our 2019 unprotected is a steep price and would be understandable if we weren't also taking back Parsons whose contract is a negative value and would effectively kill any free agent plans we had this summer or next. Not many teams are in a position to absorb that contract, and I bet those teams that could, may view it as a deal breaker.

Call me color blind but I would not give up Warren plus picks. That fourth pick could turn out to be an average player. Stick to the plan and bring in a free agent to help the core. Book, Ayton, Bender/Chriss, Warren and Jackson

If you like a guy enough to think he’d be a franchise cornerstone then giving up your pick isn’t a big deal. Do the Suns think they’d have a better pick than #4 next year? You’re just swapping years except guaranteeing yourself a top-5 pick.

Now how much they add on top of that is the question.

Exactly, the Parsons contract part of this isn’t a throw-in it’s a major part of the deal.

The value of the assets involved likely goes something like this:

1. Memphis 2018 4th pick
2. Any Suns unprotected pick in future
2(a)-3. Taking parsons contract off Memphis
3. Warren
4. Miami’s 2018 16th pick
5. Milwaukee pick
6. Suns 2018 31st pick

And 5 of the 6 elements of the trade favor Memphis.

We could get the 29th, dinwiddie and give up a bad contract (knight)?????

And we'd likely still be able to get one of Holiday or Brunson at 29 or 31. Dumping Knight would help us be bigger players in free agency.
