nationsr: you're right...Davis was a waiver wire pickup and Tanner was a UFA (unrestricted free agent). My point remains, however, that it's ironic that the Cardinals have drafted 7 DTs the past three years and the starters have basically remained two castoffs from other teams (Tanner was drafted a released by the Dolphins).

The acronym, I believe, for undrafted college free agent is UCFA.

Good point, Shane...Bryant was the only first rounder. But, it seems like the Cardinals are drafting DTs in bulk in the hopes that they get lucky on one...in the meantime it's costing the team depth at other positions. Too bad the Cardinals drafted Nate Dwyer in the 4th over the Seahawks' 5th round pick, Rocky Bernard. Bernard was a steal and a half.

What do you guys think?

That might work but I think it would look more like this:

#1 Suggs
#2 Weathersby
#3 Calico
#4 Peek

I agree with Walter in concept and theory. BPA is always the best way to build a winning team. Reach and need picks have netted the Cards :

Tom Knight
Tom Jones
A large number of the DT's already listed
Rutledge ( he hasn't earned the right for me to know his first name)
Countless FB's
Countless TE's

Some players that filled a need and would be considered a good value when drafted:

LJ Shelton
Ray Thompson
Darwin Walker
Levar Fisher

Some players that most would consider the BPA:

David Boston
Leonard Davis
Anthony Clement
Corey Chavous
Andrian Wilson
Mark Smith
Andre Wadsworth
Renaldo Hill
Eric Swann
Eric Hill

I'm sure several of these may be debatable but by and large the list is fairly accurate.

Of course injuries and attitudes caused some of the BPA's available to become busts but the list is still much better than the need picks.

I agree that if Leftwich is still there we should draft him.

I understand Walter's thought process on McGahee but I wouldn't draft him because of his injuries, just to big a question mark.

RG has done a solid job of shoring up the depth on this team. The only hole on the defense is a pass rushing DE. Even here we have a fully recovered KVB and promising Dennis Johnson. The only hole on the offense is a #1 WR and again we have alot of young talent with tons of potential.

So the question is do you want a decent RDE or a Pro Bowl QB? Do you want a good WR or a Pro Bowl Center? Actually these examples aren't quite fair because the team could take a Peak in rd 3 that turns out to be better than a Kelsay in rd 2.

This team now needs some playmakers and Pro Bowl talent and the best way to make that happen is by drafting the BPA. Then next year use FA to shore up any remaining holes.

When teams do select a unique talent they utilize that players strengths to make the entire team better. In KC it's Gonzalez and Priest Holmes. In Philly it's McNabb, Dawkins, Vincent and Douglass(now gone). As RG stated you need to find your core 7 players to build your team around, it doesn't have to be a QB or DE or CB or RB or....... it just needs to be special players that make the entire team play better. At this point the Cards don't really have enough of these difference makers and no team can afford to get them all via FA. Need picks almost never become special players so drafting the BPA is the best option.
