Let's follow the draft.

The NBA Draft is on Thursday, July 29th, 2021.

It will be held at the Barclays Center in New York and televised on ESPN and ABC at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

It seemingly came out of nowhere with the Suns being occupied in the Finals.

So who should the Suns draft at #29?

I haven't gone through many prospects yet but if the Suns go point guard Miles McBride is an intriguing prospect who plays excellent defense yet knows how to score.

Tankathon has him projected at #39 in their mock but he should move up.

That would be okay, but I would prefer Ayayi, who they have going to the Jazz at #30.

He is so smooth. I will need to look at some more video on him.

The Suns may want to stay at #29 but OKC has picks #34 and #36. Would the Suns consider a trade down.

Also if they dealt with OKC might they trade their first round pick to them now and still pick up a second round pick?

OKC also has #55.

Jaden Springer is a name that keeps popping up in mocks for us. Butler is generally gone by the time we pick in mock drafts.

Most boards I have seen have Springer gone before #29 as well.

given James Jones history who freaking knows. Hopefully a big trade that will bring us a legit proven PF

Sixers likely to trade 28th pick, still seeking big return for Ben Simmons in trade talks

It sounds like most of the above players will go undrafted and are possible free agent signings except Neemias Queta.

And the problem with Queta is that like Jalen Smith, he is a long term project. The Suns need size, but they need big men who can contribute right now. Other needs include a point guard of the future and a shooting guard or small forward who can create shots for himself and others.

James Jones is not going to give us any hints except for perhaps some players that go undrafted.

Watched him a few times this year against boise. He’s strong but extremely raw. He has a lot of potential though, he’s a beast

The Suns need size but I wonder if they have the patience to develop another big man after drafting Jalen Smith.

The Suns may choose to go for an NBA point or combo guard more ready to play.

I’d say he’s closer to contributing. He’s got 30 pounds on jalen

The Tankathon Mock Draft was updated only 7 hours ago. They have the Suns drafting Joel Ayayi at #29 which would be a solid pick.

They still have Miles McBride available at #43.

Day'Ron Sharpe is projected to go at #25.

Neemias Queta is at #41.

Having done minimal research into late round prospects, generally just seeing the PG's and C's mocks have landing late 1st and early 2nd, I really want McBride but would be happy with Sharpe. Since the draft is so close I doubt ill dig much deeper but I really hope we're targeting those 2 and we have the chance to select one of them.

I will say right now my preference from the draft is another big. But I'm also pragmatic and realistic. At #29, we will be extremely hard pressed to find a big that will contribute within even the next two years, let alone right away.

That's why I think we're going to go guard, point or combo, it doesn't matter. That position will be what we go for.
