New season thread with Al Pedrique as Manager
Having wanted to see Al Pedrique as Manager since the end of last season (Brenly blowing the Wildcard lead, 140+ starting lineups, misusing pitchers, the Junior Spivey-to-RF incident, etc.), I expect that Al is going to quietly build the roster into a cohesive unit.
Of course, without adding two starting pitchers who can win more than they lose and pitch 7 innings every 5th day, the quantity of victories will be questionable.
After just a few hours with Al on the job, it was so good to see Alex Cintron hit one to the opposite field for a hit, instead of trying to pull outside pitches and grounding out to 2B, as he's been doing.
And, ironically, the team's two errors in his first game were by veterans -- Alomar and Bautista -- not the BabyBacks.
Except for Fins (who hits too many into the air) and Sexson (if he were playing), I believe we'll see the D'backs hitters playing into their skills. And I believe that Shea Hillenbrand (if he's still here) will be what he was with the Red Sox -- a line-drive hitting RBI machine.
That will rub off on most of the rest of the team. And that will reduce our LOB/RISP stats.
It's too bad that Sparks allowed an early 4-run lead in Pedrique's first game. Uphill battles wear out a team.
