What do I have to do, light myself on fire at Cardinal HQ to get a GM hired?

Maybe I could arrange my limbs into a giant GM..... I'm sure these dofusses would interpret that to mean Get Martz.

I'm going to cry now.

Denny is going to lose his job no doubt about that. We are going to see rumors on his replacement over and over again until a new coach is actually named in early January. IMO get the GM first as many have suggested and let him hire the coach.

Adam Schefter By Adam Schefter
Special to NFL.com

Adam Schefter's "Around the League" reports and commentaries can be seen regularly on NFL Total Access.

(Nov. 7, 2006) -- If and when the Cardinals and Dennis Green go their separate ways -- and who doesn't expect that to happen? -- look for one of the leading candidates for the job, if not the leading candidate, to be Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz.

It's a no-brainer on so many levels.

For starters, Martz could be the exact offensive-minded coach the Cardinals need to jolt their fan base and capture their players' attention. Martz would be able to get the maximum out of the plethora of offensive talent that the Cardinals have. In Martz's system, quarterback Matt Leinart, running back Edgerrin James, and wide receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin would be expected to thrive.

Mike Martz was 59-42, including postseason, as the head coach of the Rams.

Additionally, Martz's addition might be enough to entice his former star quarterback, Kurt Warner, to stay on for another season instead of retiring. The two forged a strong relationship in St. Louis, and Martz's arrival could prevent Warner's departure.

Plus, there's this kicker: Martz would go from the former Cardinals city in St. Louis to the current Cardinals city in Arizona.

Martz would like to be a head coach again, the Cardinals are expected to be in the market for one, and the two could wind up being perfect for each other.

I don't have a problem with Martz at all. I'm sure he will have learned from his mistakes in St. Louis.

He's had good DC's in the past, i.e. Lovie Smith. He just screwed up with Marmie.

Bring in Martz and let's have the greatest show on retractable grass!

What about if we get Pete Carrol as head coach somehow I know its unlikley to happen and then maybe hire Mike Martz as our OC sounds pretty good to me.

Whenever I read things like this I always remember that Bob Broeg, long time writer for the St.Louis Post Dispatch, said that, in St. Louis, Bill Bidwill would make decisions just to "fool" the media.

Broeg wrote a book on Cardinal history during Coryell's term with the team. I've looked everywhere for a copy but it appears that I was the only person who ever bought one and I lost it in a move years ago. It had inside commentary on the team like what I posted above and capsule reports on every game from 1960-1974.

This is a commentary not a report, i.e. - pure speculation, no source of information.

(Nov. 7, 2006) -- If and when the Cardinals and Dennis Green go their separate ways -- and who doesn't expect that to happen? -- look for one of the leading candidates for the job, if not the leading candidate, to be Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz.

Agreed you have to have no brain to think that Martz as Cardinals HC is a good match.

In Martz's system, with the Cardinals OL, Leinart would get killed!!!

Warner has never indicated an intention to retire. What he has indicated is that he wants to compete to be the starter, but in reality he senses that time has passed. Kurt will not walk away from the $ in his current contract!

Another comment of Schefter's above paragraph, re - the relationship: It was Martz that benched Warner in favor of Bulger, I would guess that cooled the "relationship" somewhat...

Plus, there's this kicker: Martz would go from the former Cardinals city in St. Louis to the current Cardinals city in Arizona.

How does this statement add any bearing to the issue whatsoever??? Wouldn't Schefter's hypothesis been better served by reiterating Martz's former ties to Arizona?

Martz would like to be a head coach again, the Cardinals are expected to be in the market for one, and the two could wind up being perfect for each other.

And the final sentence above sums up the entire basis for the article... Totally speculative!

Having debunked Schefter's commentary I have to say that I agree with cheesebeef. This move would be so wrong for the Cardinals, that it makes perfect sense that it happen!

I'll have to try and find that book too sounds like a heck of an interesting read.

My lasting memory of Bidwill was a book I had about football gamebreakers. In the Terry Metcalf section it describes Metcalf, Coryell, and Bidwill out for lunch after he'd been drafted. Coryell had coached San Diego State against Long Beach State in college and Metcalf nearly beat him singlehandedly, he never forgot him and that's why he drafted him.

So they sit down for the meal and Bidwill blurts out "so Terry how do you feel about moving to cornerback?" Coryell's jaw drops, but he turns to Bidwill and says "oh no, Terry is my halfback, we have big plans for this young man."

That one exchange told me so much about why the Cards history is what it is, you have a guy at the top with essentially no football experience, but who thinks he can make football decisions.

You could say that his last year (8-8) was bad because of Marmie. And 8-8 here is alike the greatest season ever.

However, he did have some crazy ass play calling. passing for 40 yards on 3 and an inch with Faulk in the backfield lol

I like Martz but not as the head coach. He would be great as an offensive coordinator. Just look at what Kevin Jones is doing in the D. Edge would love to be in that offense.

Im all for Ron Rivera over Martz as the head coach. I think we need a defensive head coach. Give me Rivera and lets sign a GOOD offensive coordinator.

I don't think that is a bad play if you plan on going for it on 4th down with an incompletion.

We should definitely replace one egomaniac who can't manage a game from the sidelines with another. That's a fabulous idea. Also, we definitely should not hire a General Manager with real authority and a plan to help offset whatever damage the HC can do on the personnel side.

Martz and Warner hated each other and the hard feelings extended to Brenda Warner. This guy at NFL network has bad information.

It was like a damn soap opera at the end. Warner would freak if Martz came to Arizona.

Stay away from Martz. He is not the answer.

To me it seems that this guy from the NFL Network thinks that Martz would be a good fit here. I may have read it wrong but it seems to be more opinion as opposed to inside sources telling him the Bidwills are interested in MArtz

I'll say this again, as bad as it looks, and it does look bad, this will work itself out swimmingly for the Cardinals, all curses aside, you don't get Matt Leinart at 10 unless it's finally ordained by higher powers that you shall now proceed to glory.

I have no idea who the new coach will be but it will work and we'll win a Super Bowl, I have seen the future..

This thread made me throw up a little in my mouth. The man is a great X and O guy, but horrible in the locker room (I listened to Ricky Proehl yesterday say everything except Martz was a jerk who should never run a team again). Problem is his ego tells him he's a genius.

Here's my dream coaching staff:
G.M. Matt Millan(Leaves as Detroit's Pres. starts over in AZ)
H.C. Mike Martz
O.C. Art Shell
D.C. Larry Marmie
O-Line Coach Oliver Ross and retires and takes over
And last but not least Sean Salisbury quits ESPN and becomes the QB coach at AZ. Wouldn't this be awesome!
