That would be true, right? Its more like saying I got a C in quantum physics theory, but Im better the guy who aced college algebra.
Well considering that nearly every team that made the playoffs in the West could have won the ECF I'd say it's your team is definitely better than average if it makes the playoffs. Make no mistake, we got to the playoffs because of Kobe plain and simple. We have no supporting cast, which makes it all the more amazing what he can do out there.

i'm not sure i'd agree that the lakers would have won the ECF.
It's fairly obvious they're waiting for Paxson to flinch and cough up Luol Deng/Ben Gordon/Joakim Noah, which is better for them going forward than any of the other rumored deals going around. I still don't see why the Bulls don't seriously consider that offer; Hinrich-Kobe-Nocioni-TT-Wallace is a pretty damn good starting five. That's a defensive coach's wet dream in fact.you've got to realize that if you're getting rid of Kobe, you're building for the future - thus, Marion's worth isn't so much about him as a player, but him as a possible expiring contract next year and definitely the year after that, while still getting a very good SG (especially since his height will be diminished playing next to a 6'5 Crittenden), plus a potentially VERY HIGH lotto pick. That deal would give you cap space (huge for the LA market), a great young talent with a very moderate contract and a lotto pick. Not sure how else a mediocre team which needs to completely tear itself down in order to get better could turn that down.

And I'd be willing to guess that nothing does happen because Mitch Kupchak is the Lakers GM. He's the the stereotype for modern NBA general managing where resting on your laurels and hoping for the best is in the industry standard.man, I just don't see that happening for a host of reasons.

Have you guys looked at what it would take to match up salary? There's the oft-mentioned "re-sign PJ Brown to make the numbers work" theory, but there are a few problems on that as well. First off, it has to be a multi-year deal, and why would the Lakers want PJ Brown's contract (without the player) for 3 years and 30 million dollars. Also, the league can veto that arrangement on the grounds that it circumvents the spirit of the CBA.
So what are the options? They'd have to include Ben Wallace, who the Lakers I'm sure don't want (he's older than Kobe and make way too much money). There's Hinrich, but he's a BYC player. So that leaves this deal, which the Bulls wouldn't make:
Kobe Bryant for Tyrus Thomas, Chris Duhon, Thabo Sefalosha, Adrian Griffin, Viktor Khryapa and Ben Gordon.
And the Lakers may not even want that trade either. But regardless, what does it leave the Bulls with?
Starters
Kirk Hinrich
Kobe Bryant
Luol Deng
Joakim Noah
Ben Wallace
Bench
Andres Nocioni
Joe Smith
Andre Barrett
JamesOn Curry
Thomas Gardner
They'd still need 3 more players on their roster. That's a pretty depleted bench. Then you add in Deng's extension (let's be very kind and say it mirror's Hinrich's contract) and Sefalosha's extension (let's start it at a modest 3.5 mil) to the already large contracts of Hinrich, Bryant, Nocioni and Wallace. That means that between Hinrich, Bryant, Deng, Nocioni, Wallace and Sefalosha, they will owe at least a combined 245 million dollars. For 6 players.
Wow.
Why does the contract for p.j. have to be 3 years?
