Trade up for Porter Jr please.
He's reportedly a ball stopper; a heavy ISO player. Throw in the fact he's had a back injury that necessitated surgery and I have zero interest. I wouldn't mind taking his brother though.
Ball stopper Kevin Durant is doing OK. And that's his comp. I think Porter Jr will be the best player in this draft. Also thought that about Durant over Oden. I wouldn't take him first because of the injury, but if he falls past 5 I would do everything I could to get him. He's reportedly a ball stopper; a heavy ISO player. Not saying I disagree with your overall premise, but you're seriously comparing Durant's stats from this season in the NBA to Porter's college career?I don't know anything firsthand on Porter but his reputation says he's very ball dominant, quite a bit more so than with Durant. And he often ignores teammates, even on fast breaks. KD, OTOH, averaged 5.4 assists per game this season with reasonable usage numbers.
He may well become a star but the health risks make him a poor target for us, IMO. Don't forget, roughly 75% of players that have had disk-related surgery end up having further back problems during their careers (from injury expert Jeff Stotts via Sporting News).
Porter didn't have a college career unfortunately. But Durant averaged 1.3 assists in college and it's hard to imagine Porter would have been significantly worse than that. Ball sharing is something that can be improved and controlled by coaching and scheming, as we see with KD going from complete ball stop in college (1apg) to 5+ apg as a veteran with the Warriors. It doesn't concern me much unless the 'ball stop' is your point guard like Russ. Not saying I disagree with your overall premise, but you're seriously comparing Durant's stats from this season in the NBA to Porter's college career?
Did they call him Master when he was too young to be called Mister?scott bordowVerified account@sbordow 6m6 minutes ago
Bates-Diop could be a candidate at No. 31 for Suns.

Ok, sorry, you compared Durant to Porter's high school stats. That's even worse. What makes more sense is doing an apples to apples comparison, not an apple to apple pie comparison.Say what? I did nothing of the sort. Porter has no college career, just 53 minutes or something like that. I used Durant's current stats to address the accusation that he was a ball stopper. His usage isn't out of whack and he picks up assists. That doesn't equal ball stopper IMO.

Again, no, I DIDN'T COMPARE DURANT or his stats to anybody, anytime. I simply used KD's most recent year to disagree with the claim that Durant was a ball stopper. He isn't a ball stopper although he is an ISO player at heart. In college, perhaps, he was a ball stopper because of this teammates.
But isn't that really irrelevant to the discussion since Durant is so much older AND has a lot more experience than Porter? Maybe that's what you were trying to prove from the start.

Bates-Diop then raised his stock at the combine when his wingspan was measured at 7-3. McDonough said Bates-Diop can be player who guards four different positions and can play a small-ball center offensively.
“Boy, he’s really long and versatile,” McDonough said. “One of the things that stood out at the workout today and at Ohio State is that he’s able to step out and make shots from the perimeter. With his length he can get into the paint and into the post area and score over the top.
“Defensively he’s really versatile. Again, that length and freakish wingspan helps and he also slides pretty well. … So he’s a unique player, a versatile player and the kind of player every team is looking for.”
Got it. Sorry Steve. My reading comprehension has been off since we got the #1 pick.Somebody else mentioned Durant, Steve was replying to that, here's the post someone made when Steve said he'd pass on Porter because he's reportedly a ball stopper...
Then Steve posted Durant's stats to say that he isn't really much of a ball stopper anymore so it's probably not much of a comparison. He's more disputing the idea that Porter will be like Durant, not pushing the idea that they're the same.
I'm having a harder time deciding who I'd like at #16 than either at #1 or #31. It's just a bad spot in this draft. I'm just hoping someone in my top 3 tiers falls to us. FWIW my tiers go:
Tier 1
Ayton
Doncic
Tier 2
Bagley
Jackson
Bamba
Porter
Carter
Mikal Bridges
Tier 3
Young
The other Bridges
Sexton
R. Williams
Jerome Robinson
That's 13 players. That leaves us picking between:
Shai - not exactly the right fit with Book, but a talent nonetheless
Knox
Thomas
Trent
Simons (Man his film looks awful. I'm sure he's better than what I saw. Low release = lots of blocked shots. That said, he's a horrible fit next to Book and NOT a PG)
I just don't see anyone I just HAVE to have outside of the top 3 tiers. I'd take ANY of those guys at #16 though. (I really like Jerome Robinson even though he's another SG.)

The Suns are talking about bringing in two vet free agents this summer, I just do not see them doing this.
