I wouldn't make that trade.

I think i would espescially if Joe Thomas is gone. It's a pretty deep draft and we'd have 3 of the first 43 picks. We could very likely get Ginn, Merriwaether, and a top CB like McCauley if he falls. That's adding alot of speed to both sides of the ball.

Well, considering that I don't like Ginn, I wouldn't like that scenario. Ginn is vastly overrated. If you want to move from 5 to 10, you need more than a 2nd rounder, value chart be damned. I'd rather stay put and take Peterson or Adams, or someone like that.

There are two players that I ouwld consider at the #5 spot. Gaines Adams, my personel preference, and JOe Thomas. If one of these two isn't available then we sould trade back and look at Nelson, Landry, Q Moses, L Brown, Revis and M Lynch.

Ginn and VD on the same squad just made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Ginn would be licking his chops going against Rolle or Green. He reminds me of Troy Williamson.

Over on the Vikings board many people dont like him. They say he has bad hands and does not run good routes. But he is young and will improve. Many Viking fans are in love with Dewayne Jarrett and compare him to Fitz.

Peterson:thumbup: James is slowing down but durable. Petersons just an explosion waitin to happen. Okefor and Berry are fine and Antonio Smith is making big strides. Thomas won't be there MTL. So Peterson or Thomas or trade down for Landry and take CB and OLB with the extra picks.

Agree with Thomas or Adams. If we take a WR in the first I will cry.

This looks like a very accurate top of the draft IMO:

1. Oakland Raiders- JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU
Russell over Quinn? Just look at last year's draft, everyone thought Leinart was going to be the top quarterback. Russell is bigger, has a stronger arm, and more mobile than Quinn.

2. Detroit Lions- Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame
It is about time, Detroit looks for its franchise savior. Good luck Brady. Millen would take Calvin Johnson, but I do not think he could take the heat.

3. Cleveland Browns- Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma
DT may be more of a need, but Peterson is too good to pass up.

4. Tampa Bay Buccanneers- Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech
Johnson at 4, some may call that robbery.

5. Arizona Cardinals- Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin
Thomas is my top ranked player. Cardinals finally add a stud OL to talented offensive skill players.

6. Washington Redskins- Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson
The Skins need help on DL, and Adams is the best of the best.

7. Minnesota Vikings- Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC
Jarrett should just show the scouts film of the Michigan game,. Top WR pick in any other draft except this one.

8. Houston Texans- Marshawn Lynch, RB, Cal
The Texans messed up last year, hopefully Lynch can be the fix.

9. Miami Dolphins-Alan Branch, DT, Michigan
The DL is old, especially the interior. DB is also a concern, but with depth at DB in the draft, can be addressed in 2nd round.

10. Atlanta Falcons- Reggie Nelson, S, Florida
Safety is a concern, and the Falcons should have its pick of Nelson or LaRon Landry.

11. San Francisco 49ers- Leon Hall, CB, Michigan
A lot of need on defense, but with Branch gone, I figure the 49ers go CB.

12. Buffalo Bills- Levi Brown, T, Penn State
Bills have a need on the OL. Brown can certainly fill that hole. I think the Bills still like Losman.

13. St. Louis Rams- LaRon Landry, S, LSU
Rams need help at the S position. At least Landry or Nelson should be here.

I've seen where Levi Brown is falling quickly and now is rated behind Joe Staley from Central Michigan and the kid from Notre Dame. It's hard to figure OT's anymore.Look at last year with Winston Justice falling all the way to round 2 and Jonathon Scott, from Texas, dropped all the way into round 4,iirc. Those were 2 guys that were projected relatively high.

Anyone else think that ATL would be an EXCELLENT trade partner if Calvin Johnson is still on the board (or even possibly for Ginn)? We could drop 5 spots and pick up a player or a pick and then that leaves us free to draft a DB at #10....

Trade down, get the best available DB left? I can see that happening.

Another possibility here-- Peterson slips to 5.. Houston, who is hurting hardcore for a HB, trades the 8th pick and a second rounder to move up to get him.

At 8, the Cards take Leon Hall or LaRon Landry.. Sign me up.

I know a lot of people want to get Peterson, but let's face the reality-- the team has a lot of money invested in James and cannot afford the luxury of ignoring a need position like the one gaping in the secondary or on the OLine to pick a luxury pick like Peterson.

I CAN see them going after someone like Tony Hunt in the third if he falls, but not anything before then.

I also would like to see the Cards pick up that RB from Louisville, Bush. Shipp is walking and we should probably consider trading Arrington to a team like PHI or ATL for a late pick (5th or so)....

The Eagles need more of a bruising back. If any of this team's current HBs could fit Philadelphia's needs, it'd be Shipp, not Arrington. Same essentially can be said for the Falcons, although Dunn's getting up there in the years.

I'm a Penn State guy and saw plenty of PSU games live in my time in Happy Valley. Let me tell you this from a Penn State fan's perspective.. Levi Brown wasn't considered a first round talent prior to this year for one reason and one reason alone.. He lacks motivation. The guy has all the intangibles you could possibly look for in an offensive lineman, but his complacency kills me. Honestly, if this guy played every down with the same amount of intensity, we'd be talking about him in the same breath as Joe Thomas.

However, as I said before, his complacency kills me. Realistically, if this is the best Arizona can get, they're better off re-signing Big.

Not sure if I prefer having Peterson or a FS, but that would be a good trade.

I'm a big Peterson fan Stout, but the secondary is hurting hard.. Plus, the Cardinals have a load of money invested in James. I know the dual back set, best player available scenario worked wonders for the Saints, but I don't know if I'm too set on the Cards passing up the opportunity to fix a glaring need to pick another HB.

I don't think we should let need be an overriding factor. That got us Pace and Johnson. I say we go BPA. If that's Peterson, it's Peterson. If it's a FS, it's a FS.

I used Arrington to ATL or PHI because he could conceivably be an understudy to either Westbrook or Dunn, who are both aging....

Here's my mock..

1. Raiders
Calvin Johnson
WR
Georgia Tech

I know I'm probably the only person on the face of the planet who thinks the Raiders WON'T go with a QB #1 overall, but trust me, there's a reason I think the way I do.

Perhaps I'm showing my Arizona State bias here, but I think Andrew Walter CAN be a servicable QB on the NFL level. What I think the Raiders need at QB is a solid veteran leader to show Walter the ropes and help him along in his development. Someone like Kurt Warner or Trent Dilfer would be ideal. In all reality, how much development is Walter going to get learning the ropes under Aaron Brooks, who himself has seemingly failed to grasp the NFL, and at this point in his career, never will?

With that said, where the Raiders have something resembling a possible answer, at WR the cupboards will be picked bare. I cannot, under any circumstance, see Randy Moss or Jerry Porter brought back. Too many bridges have been burnt beyond recognizable return for either to return to the team. The question isn't whether they're going, it's instead who goes first?

With Doug Gabriel and Ronald Curry looming as the starting duo at WR, and with one of the bottom rated offenses in the NFL as is, to say the Raiders need a playmaker and will need WRs would be a great understatement.

Remember, three years ago the Raiders (then much better off at WR) passed on Larry Fitzgerald, much to the benefit of the Cardinals, for Robert Gallery. I can't see them making the same mistake twice, with the best WR to hit the draft since Fitz.

2. Lions
Joe Thomas
OT
Wisconsin

Yes, another team expected to go with a QB will look outside the box.

In 2006, Jon Kitna threw for over 4,000 yards and more importantly managed a young Lion offense effectively. This, inspite of the fact that the guy was running for his life most plays.

The Lions surrendered 38 Quarterback sacks this season, and Kevin Jones was held to a career low 636 yards.

Thomas would be a welcomed addition to a depleted and old Lion Offensive Line that desperately needs a boost. Although he may not be the chic pick, I think in Matt Millen's eyes, he's the SAFE pick, one that can contribute right away. Let's face it, the Fords will not stick with losing forever, and neither Quinn, Russell nor Brohm offers a immediate win impact. Thomas however will do just that.

3. Browns
Brady Quinn
QB
Notre Dame

Talk about being in a pleasantly surprising situation. The Browns, in need of any kind of infusion of offensive talent will be stuck between picking Adrian Peterson or Brady Quinn, with JaMarcus Russell also a distinct possibility.

Really, I can see the Browns going with either, and it wouldn't stun me to see the Browns go after Peterson, however with this team searching for an identity, going with an Ohio guy in Quinn would be an investment I see the Browns making.

4. Buccaneers
Gaines Adams
DE
Clemson

Tampa Bay's one time strength was it's defense. Suddenly, that defense is old and in need of an infusion in talent.

Adams will give the Buccaneers just that, with someone who's both capable of playing DE and OLB, such versatility that will make him enticing for the Bucs.

5.Texans (from Cardinals)
Adrian Peterson
HB
Oklahoma

After the Reggie Bush fiasco from last season, the Texans will rectify that "mistake" and appease the fanbase by trading up and picking Texas native Peterson to be their HB and franchise face for the future.

6. Redskins
Alan Branch
DT
Michigan

One of the first true "no brainers" of the draft, Washington will and should waste no time drafting Branch.

Their DT position is in shambles, to the point where they've been using whatever they could find at the position. Branch will fill that void for the next decade at least.

7 Vikings
Dwayne Jarrett
WR
USC

The Vikings need firepower, especially at WR. Jarrett, one of the unheralded members of USC's National Title runs, will give the Vikes just that, and will give up and coming QB Taveras Jackson a big target to throw to.

8 Cardinals (From Texans)
LaRon Landry
S/CB
LSU

This pick puts the Cardinals in a very good quandry.

Landry is capable of playing both Safety and CB. He's a physical hitter, who also is a ball hawk by nature and is defined as a shutdown player by nature. I've seen him stop and minimalize even the best of WRs in college football and have no doubts he can do the same at the NFL level.

With this pick, the Cardinals now have the option of either keeping him at Safety and giving the Cards two of the hardest hitting safeties in the NFL, or moving him to CB and moving Antrelle Rolle to safety, where he may be better suited anyhow, and again giving the Cardinals a hard hitting pair of young safeties.

Never the less, this pick will be one that benefits the Cardinals. By trading down with the Texans (in my mock, they get a third back), they get a need position filled, and also pick up an extra draft pick in the process.

9 Dolphins
JaMarcus Russell
QB
LSU

If Russell falls this far, there's no way in hell he falls further.

Daunte Culpepper's knee may never fully recover and neither Joe Harrington or Cleo Lemon are long term answers.

I could also see the Dolphins taking Ted Ginn Jr. here. With the WR core suspect, he could be their big play threat that they're desperately lacking. In the meantime though, I do see them going after the best player available here, Russell.

10
Falcons
Leon Hall
CB
Michigan

The Falcon secondary, with the exception of DeAngelo Hall, is older and losing a step or two.. The Falcons here take another Hall to help man the secondary.

The Falcons again are in the market for a wide receiver to catch the ball and solve quarterback Michael Vick's problems. Ginn is raw but ultra explosive.

Dunn is definitely aging.. But Westbrook's only 27 and in the middle of the best statistical season of his career.

Man, I coulda sworn Westbrook was around 30-31. Oh well. My point remains that Arrington would be a good acquisition for a team that likes the smaller, shiftier backs with good speed - as long as they have a decent OL. I think that there would be a fair market for him, but I wouldn't be upset if he were still around these parts next year....

I can't argue with those picks 1-3. I admit, I am in love with Ginn on this team, and I'm scared to death that SF may end up getting him.
.

IMHO the SF 49erswon’t take Ginn with the 11th pick. If they really want a receiver they can trade down and draft Robert Meacham who is a better receiver than Ginn.

I get what your saying.

I could actually see him winding up in Oakland or Kansas City to give Larry a break every once in a blue moon.

SDJ, are you SURE you aren't talking about Reggie Nelson with that pick? Landry is a thoroughbred at safety and playing him at corner would make him a liability as he's not THAT good at coverage. He's solid in coverage, but nowhere enough to for man-to-man against WRs. Reggie Nelson, OTOH, is of the shutdown-nature you speak of.

I'm just wondering because I've never seen Landry associated with the ability to play corner. Only Nelson and Merriweather.
