Tommy Knight seems to have played more games for the Cardinals than this often injured player. Great guy, but useless player since he is always on some injured list.

My feeling is that Denny is holding him back for a couple of reasons. One, he is extremely fragile and he doesn't want to expose him to the risk/likelihood of injury. Two, as an experienced lead blocker he doesn't need a lot of training camp to get ready. Conditioning isn't an issue as he's likely to play less than 30% of offensive snaps, and those primarily in short yardage and goal line situations.
In conclusion, he has (or did have) unique skills. But he's extremely fragile. Why expose needlessly in training camp?
One other possibility: If another team which uses a lead fullback a lot gets theirs injuried in training camp, Denny can deal him for a 6th or 7th round pick. That option doesn't exist if he gets hurt (again).
