Spiderman 3 is garbage :)

Ultimatum is awesome though.

I still want to see it.

It looks like you can't combine Bluray/HDDVD, so I will have to find an HDDVD that I really want. I do want Harry Potter, but I wanted to get them all.

According to Warner Brothers you could. However, it appears it's not cost effective to produce or they wouldn't have abandoned the tech.

I'm talking about buying one HDDVD/Bluray, and getting the opposite technology free. :)

Spidey 3 is severely underrated. I think the movie has suffered from peole just wanting to see the big guy on top fall. I loved that movie. So DCR, when a title is out on Blu and HD which do you buy?

It usually depends on the features, price, etc. All things considered, I'd probably buy HDDVD. For example 300, and the web enabled stuff, etc. I got that.

If they titles are exactly the same spec wise, I always go price. HD to me is nice, but I won't pay a premium for the titles just to have them. I won't pay more than about $15 per title.

Jeez, now you are speaking for DCR too? This lovefest is getting out of control!:)
Actually, I'd have said that either way...he has mentioned on here repeatedly that he's a cheapskate. Was kinda takin' a little bit of a shot at him :)

Well, she actually got the cheapskate part down.

I have lots of expensive things, but I always shop for the best deal on them.

In fact, I am so cheap that I think Linder is buying dinner tonight. :)

After experiencing two Blu Rays so far, I have to say that initially I like the way HD DVDs are laid out better. I like the PiP and U Control and to me the picture looks the same, sound is the same. The only dilemma going on in my head is whether or not to Warner Bros rumors are true. So far I've only bought 2 HD DVDs and I've aquired the rest free so I'm not too invested from a software standpoint. I still think I'm getting Potter on HD DVD instead of Blu.

Harry Potter: OOP

HD-DVD Version has IME and Online features, but is missing a fluff documentary and several bonus features are in SD only.

Blu-Ray version has an additional fluff documentary and all bonus features are in HD. No IME/Online Features.

That HDDVD Harry Potter is nice, as it is both HD and Standard DVD. I love the dual format discs.

Yeah when it comes to purchasing movies I hate to spend more that $15. Unless of course it's a Must Have Movie which is rare.

Right now I have purchased about 12 HD DVD's. The common theme from them is their amazing Visual and Audio presentation. Basically I want a small collection of HD DVD's I can use to show off my system.

For now I have a bunch of HD-DVDs lined up in my Netflix Queue. That's probably how I will watch most of my movies to keep my investment small.

As I mentioned before I probably won't buy any more HD-DVDs unless I can get them for around $15 or less. I have had some luck on Ebay landing a few HD DVDs for under $15 shipped. Plus Deals like the Amazon one where you Buy one get one free with free shipping might entice me if they have movies I'm interested in.

So for right now if you include the price of my 1080p HD DVD player ($249) and the movies I've purchased I'm only out about $400 in to HD DVD. Even if the standard goes away, I still have a very nice upconverting DVD player which I didn't have before.

Just picked up Jarhead, The Rundown and Assault on Precinct 13.

They were 9.95 a piece at RC Willey. The lady at the Cashier goes "wow thats a really good price for that format. Good for you"

I was happy too.

Don't count your breath. Jackson has repetitively said that LOTR will not be released until the format war is over.

Not sure if this means anything or not:

WHEN IS THE LORD OF THE RINGS GOING TO BE RELEASED IN HIGH DEFINITION (EITHER HD-DVD OR BLU-RAY)?

The high definition formats that have recently launched offer exceptional picture and sound quality in addition to new interactive bonus feature capabilities. New Line Home Entertainment is committed to the high definition format and is very excited about the idea of releasing the Trilogy in the format. However, New Line is also committed to maximizing the capabilities of the technology to deliver a cutting edge high definition experience. This will take more time as well as the participation of the filmmakers to achieve. It is currently not scheduled for release until, at the earliest, 2008.

Great deals.

I recently picked up "Batman Begins" for $15 shipped and "Phantom of the Opera" for $12 shipped off Ebay. Hopefully they will arive soon.

Yesterday I received my HD DVDs from Amazon's BOGOF deal. Watched "Letters from Iwo Jima" last night. What a great flick. Looked awesome in HD even though there wasn't much color used in this movie.

Also watched some of "U-571" and thought he video looked OK at times. The picture looked great when they were on the surface. However the shots inside the sub looked very grainy to me. Probably due to the low lighting. One thing I did notice was the lame special affect when they blow up the destroyer at the end of the movie. You could really tell that it was CG used for the explosion. It was painfully obvious in HD, really bad actually.
