My mom is buying dad a player for Christmas. She was going to buy an HD DVD player but I told her to buy Blu instead. Its the safer choice at this point if you just want to own one.

Just picked up Jarhead, The Rundown and Assault on Precinct 13.

They were 9.95 a piece at RC Willey. The lady at the Cashier goes "wow thats a really good price for that format. Good for you"

I was happy too.

I just realized that all 3 of these are dual format.

Just landed the HD DVD version of Heroes Season 1 on Ebay for $39 shipped! Brand New!

:thewave:

Yep. This set has been uber cheap because of the Best Buy deal.

I still have an extra copy that I am not quite sure what to do with yet.

Do you have some titles you wanna trade for it? Remember, I'm a cheapskate.

Well, I just got my 360 and have 3 games. I still haven't received my HD add on or any of those 9 HD movies either, so, no.

Do you like hand-made pot holders? :doi:

Oooo, what about the HD movie "35" starring Andrew Jackson, Alexander Hamilton, and Abe Lincoln???

Ah. Christian cartoon where one of the kids made pot holders for those getting pillaged by Vikings.

I know that there are a few of us that now have a PS3/Bluray player, so...

There are framing issues with Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl for Bluray. I don't own it yet....

Here's what I'm talking about. It happens all throughout the movie.

Can anyone give any opinions about Upscaling DVD players?

My old stardard DVD player went out, so I went and purchased a Magnavox 1080p Upscaling DVD player today at Wal-Mart for $30 bucks.

I just have the standard A/V cables set up for now, as I just ordered a spare HDMI cable from Amazon. So far, the picture is good with the A/V cables. I'm assuming once I get the HDMI cable set up, it'll look better?

I'm hoping this will tie me over until the Blu-Ray/HDDVD war is over.

You pretty much need the HDMI cables for the upconverting to work, at least, mine didn't work without it.

Its worth it for $30. You won't get 1080p out of that thing, but it should look a little better than regular DVD using the HDMI cable.

If you are already craving HD movies, I doubt that this will hold you over.

Warner is going 100% Blu-ray.

WARNER BROS. ENTERTAINMENT TO RELEASE ITS HIGH-DEFINITION DVD TITLES EXCLUSIVELY IN THE BLU-RAY DISC FORMAT BEGINNING LATER THIS YEAR

Decision Made in Response to Strong Consumer Preference for Format

(January 4, 2008 - Burbank, CA) - In response to consumer demand, Warner Bros. Entertainment will release its high-definition DVD titles exclusively in the Blu-ray disc format beginning later this year, it was announced today by Barry Meyer, Chairman & CEO, Warner Bros. and Kevin Tsujihara, President, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group.

"Warner Bros.' move to exclusively release in the Blu-ray disc format is a strategic decision focused on the long term and the most direct way to give consumers what they want," said Meyer. "The window of opportunity for high-definition DVD could be missed if format confusion continues to linger. We believe that exclusively distributing in Blu-ray will further the potential for mass market success and ultimately benefit retailers, producers, and most importantly, consumers."

Warner Home Video will continue to release its titles in standard DVD format and Blu-ray. After a short window following their standard DVD and Blu-ray releases, all new titles will continue to be released in HD DVD until the end of May 2008.

"Warner Bros. has produced in both high-definition formats in an effort to provide consumer choice, foster mainstream adoption and drive down hardware prices," said Jeff Bewkes, President and Chief Executive Officer, Time Warner Inc., the parent company of Warner Bros. Entertainment. "Today's decision by Warner Bros. to distribute in a single format comes at the right time and is the best decision both for consumers and Time Warner."

"A two-format landscape has led to consumer confusion and indifference toward high definition, which has kept the technology from reaching mass adoption and becoming the important revenue stream that it can be for the industry," said Tsujihara. "Consumers have clearly chosen Blu-ray, and we believe that recognizing this preference is the right step in making this great home entertainment experience accessible to the widest possible audience. Warner Bros. has worked very closely with the Toshiba Corporation in promoting high definition media and we have enormous respect for their efforts. We look forward to working with them on other projects in the future."

speaking more about it. It was pretty smart of them to offer tons of buy one get one free offers for the past 6 months, and then use those numbers when factoring in sales.

I think this delivers a crushing blow to HD DVD. I want the format war over. It was good that it dropped prices, but it is time to move on. Here's to the winning format: Blu-Ray :(

HDDVD could use this as a last ditch effort to drastically drop players/prices on software.

Imagine what would happen if you made the MSRP of the titles to $19.99 and watch retailers sell them for $10-11 a piece.

Sounds a lot like when I bought my first Dreamcast at Best Buy, a month before its death was announced.
