Antrell Rolle.

And, yes, there is good depth in this year's CB class--that's why we take another one in rounds 2 or 3.

After rethinking this over, I think we have to be realistic of who won't be there. IMO, Rodgers, Brown, Johnson, Edwards, Williams, Rolle and Merriman will be gone .

That leaves:
QB-Smith
RB-Benson
CB-Rodgers
CB-Jones

I can't see us taking a qb. Just don't see it.
If Henry is a Cardinal it makes me think we wouldn't take Benson.

I say Pacman Jones.................for now.

He ran a 4.49, I'm still concerned about his turning ability and the fluidity of his hips.

You say 4.49 like it is a bad thing. Just to put it into perspective he ran that 4.49 on wet natural grass outdoors in Miami, not the fast artificial indoors stuff guys run on at the combine.

If Rolle ran at the combine his 40 would have been in the low 4.4's. Some say the difference between the stuff at the combine and natural grass is a .05 - .08 second difference. Plus he put up very good shuttle and cone times, and is the biggest both height and weight out of the 1st round caliber CB's.

I would be inclined to take Antrell Rolle in the 1st round.

This is also assuming the cards trade for Henry.

I know 4.49 is great for his size but his turning ability is another issue.

Again he put up really good shuttle and Cone times which measure turning ability, not the crazy numbers that Rogers put up but none the less good numbers.

I was comparing him to Roger's numbers, which may be pretty lofty. So I take it you think Rolle is the best CB in the draft?

Yes I do think he is the best. I just think he is the most complete CB out of the 3.

And yes comparing to Rogers numbers is very lofty. The numbers that Rogers put up were crazy good, some of the best times ever. His cone time of 6.49 is .2 seconds faster then the next highest CB time this year.

I would be very happy with Rogers or Rolle though, I just slightly prefer Rolle.

i wouldnt mind this pick at all if he is a sure thing. We want difference makers such as Jevon Kearse types, not Thomas Jones or Tom Knight types.

You say be realistic then claim with certainty that Merriman won't be there? I'll bet if Merriman and Johnson are both gone that Rolle is there. I think Merriman goes somewhere between 10-15.

With the Browns switching to a 3-4, they could very well pick Merriman.
Yeah, they could. So could the Vikes. But if both he and Johnson are off the board, who takes Rolle in the face of those other offensive players still on the board? I think Rolle is there if that's the case.

I'd prefer Rolle over Rogers and here's why:

The negative on Rogers is that until this past season, he was kind of timid about breaking on the ball and tended to play soft (i.e. Tommy Knight Syndrome).

The negatives on Rolle involve suspicion that he may not be as fluid as you'd like to play corner and, therefore, more suited to play safety.

Take away these negatives and you have in Rogers, a nice-sized corner with more fluid hips whose side of the field was said to be avoided by opposing CB's.

In Rolle, you get a big physical corner who can run a 4.45. Plus he plays with an attitude and, to me, therin lies the difference.

Opposite Macklin, the Cards need a corner who's big, physical, aggressive and eager to make big plays. In my opinion, Rolle fits that job description better than any DB in the draft.

In other words, the "tude plus the 4.45 speed is enough to cover opposing receivers and compensate for any deficiencies in the hips dept.

Not certainty, Pariah. Just opinion. It's my way of coming to some kind of reasonable conclusion of who MIGHT be left.

You can interchange Alex Smith, Carlos Rogers, Mike Williams or whoever YOU like. I kinda based it on the teams that are drafting ahead of us.

There is no way you pass on the best PLAYER in the draft. The guy with zero question marks, and could be plugged in as starter from day 1.

Go DJ.

Mark my words, you will be hearing this guys name for years to come, in a Cards uni or not.

He does have one question mark -- in college he tended to run around blocks instead of sticking his nose in there. In college, superior speed and athleticism lets you get away with that. In the NFL, it gets you ridden right out of plays.

I like him as a player alot. He is a complete guy who can rush the passer and cover the pass. More of a finesse player than a real physical guy though.

I Agree completely, why have a linebacker that will avoid blocks to take down the ball carrier???

Am I missing something, or should his job be to tackle the guy with the ball?

Nothing irritates me more than a person who will take on a block, but makes no effort to go for the ball carrier.

If it is your job to take on a block, that is one thing. But if you make no attempt to make a big play then what are you doing for the team?

Therein lies the problem with this team taking DJ. I think we pass for a good CB , or the best player that falls.

Thats why Merriman might be better than Johnson at the pro level IMO.
