I've read/heard that our coaches were not happy with White's pass coverage last season, and that he's looking for $10MM per year. Just idle speculation because I can't remember specific sources.
He wasn't as good last year as the season before. The pass coverage was the most notable flaw but I thought he was also part of the problem in our run defense. If a blocker gets on him he's done for that play.

If you really watch White, he often fills the wrong hole and gets washed out. He eventually tackles the runner from behind after 5-10 yards gained. Pass pro is also bad.

I'm not sure what part of "He's a mediocre player but I'm happy to bring him back for about $5m, but if not I'm also good because he's mediocre" people are not understanding.
Bottom line is you think he’s expendable and easily replaced.
You, and most of us, are conditioned to think like we need to be fiscally responsible.
Bring in some damn players with a true intent to become a contender for the division. To hell with the so called cap or 1m to much for this guy or that guy.
If we fall short , at least we would appear to be trying.

I already believe our “ aggressive” approach to free agency falls far short of what we think is aggressive. More likely we will be fed ear candy on how and why we are so shrewd during this free agency.

If it were me, I’d go after Hendrickson AND Reddick then draft the biggest baddest DT in the draft. Suddenly we’d be legit. THAT would be aggressive.

Btw, do that and suddenly White is a lot better.

Pappoe is a poor tackler, mediocre at penetrating and poor in coverage IMO. Not sure shat you like?
this team needs to add to what's already on the defense. plugging holes with wet toilet paper on top of that is why this team is consistently running in quicksand.

$5m or $7m is little difference, anything close to $10m or more is a huge overpay for a completely mid player.

Y'all make me laugh though. Fans here go on about how we have to get better, especially on defense, and are crying out to bring back a guy that would not get starter snaps on roughly 22 teams.
Your opinion. But if Rallis, MO and Gannon bring him back for 10m, I’m going to lean in the direction of their decision.

Dude, if the DC was naming his kids after the best player on defense he'd be called Garrett.

Not even you think quality of play has anything to do with the kids name.

It's not only quality of play. It's quality of person (one imagines), which helps with the culture you're trying to build. Guy was a captain.

We need to move on from White. He tackles a lot but where? After about 5-10 yards gained.

So he's Budda Baker? People love him and were thrilled with the extension.

I mean, he played more games, didn't he? He was on that Zack Braun trajectory before he was hurt in 2023 (according to some). What are these plays where people are noticing flaws in pass coverage? He had a pick and three passes defensed.

the White-washing is so typical. no one was saying any of this stuff before it became apparent he might not come back. also, this team has money to burn.
Absolutely. As soon as it was mentioned he was a free agent, suddenly he is a total bum.
I’m telling you there are so many posters here that are totally hypnotized by the operation of this organization.

Budda Baker is a safety, and he actually tackled more on the LOS than White in my opinion.
Good thing this doesn't have to be something to have an opinion on, since it's an objectively measurable fact.

Budda had 10 tackles for loss vs. White's 9. White had eight QB hits to Budda's three. Budda missed 9.9% of his tackles vs White's 5.5%.

I legit thought he wasn't that good last year. But I did expect him to return and I wouldn't be surprised if it still happens.

What are these plays where people are noticing flaws in pass coverage? He had a pick and three passes defensed.

The pick was Purdy's arm getting hit by a blitzing Thompson that floated about 20 yards into the air and 20 yards down field. Three passes defensed. Out of how many? Fifty?

I agree that he is a great locker room guy and leader so, again, I won't be surprised if he returns

If you believe PFR's advanced defense stat, 51. I don't think a ratio of targets per passes defensed is that relevant, especially when he's perhaps chasing down high-percentages passes like screens and smokes.

Evan Brown resigned 2 y 11 mil
Wow that's cheap. Interesting. I thought he could be in line for a nice little deal considering he has 57 starts over the past four seasons.

Great deal. Good for continuity without foreclosing the potential to move him back to the bench in a backup role across the line.
