can anyone tell me why Casey Jacobsen is considered a good shooter, besides what he did in college? I mean 37 from2, 31 from 3 and 68% from the line! I really hope he never becomes a key role for this team - it's funny I really liked the pick a lot at the time, but sheesh - he has looked horrible in almost every game I have gotten to watch.

Maybe Al should play center for the Suns
No. He's too tall and too much of a defensive force.

That comeback showed balls.

Marbury's shoulder is fine. He was a big reason they lost. Superstars step up, and he deferred. Plain and simple.

Easy on Casey. He's a damn rookie! Give the guy a chance to develop his game for the quicker NBA.

He can fill it up. Just ask any player residing on the West Coast.

Well that first half sucked!

It will be tough to win 2 in a row.

Young Suns choked to start both pivot games (3 & 5)
Shooting <40% = loss

If we get to game 7 anything can happen and the Spurs know that the Suns are dangerous.

They are getting better but not fast enough to win this series I am afraid.
Amare was awesome tonight! He needs to bring it again on Thurs.

Casey is below average for absolutely everything an average SG is supposed to do.

Can't create for himself, can't create for teammates, can't put the ball on the floor, can't shoot off the dribble, can't catch and shoot wide open jumpers at a good rate, can't defend any player in the league..

Unfortunately you are 100% correct. As good as Amare Stoudemire has been this season, Casey Jacobsen has been that disappointing to me. I expected much better from a guy that was as good as he was in college. It's a damn shame they didn't take Carlos Boozer or even Dan Gadzuric with that pick.

I really hope Casey improves because he is a very likable guy.

If the Phoenix Suns lose the series the first thing the Colangelos need to do is look at how badly their bench was outplayed. Both teams could go on forever with the "ifs", but if the Phoenix Suns had anything resembling a bench they would be up at least 3-1.

Whatever.

I suppose you expected him to come in and average 15 ppg.

Why don't you go back and check the numbers of ALL rookie SG's who come into this league.

Then, come back here and tell me what you found.

Ok, here I go again. FJ does not know the difference between small-ball versus playing like your life depended upon the outcome of the game. What brings us back in games like this is not the fact we play a small lineup, it's because they play very, very hard. The coach loves small ball and his excitment transfers over to the palyers. I just wish he could get excited about playing BIG instead of playing small.

One of the major duties of the head coach is to get the team in a mind set to play hard and win. When you believe that big guys can't contribute except in rare cases, it will ooze from your eyeballs or out of the pours of your skin.... Hey, that's him...FJ.

I'll always be a Suns fan, but next year I think I'll follow Denver as well. If the Suns keep FJ (surprised if they don't) and he continues along the small ball path, watching a team come from last (TIE) to playoff contender will be going to Murphy's for extended happy hour:biglaugh:

Look, I'm no Jacobsen fan. I never liked the pick in the first place, and I've called Jacobsen "the Stanford Snot" all season long. But again, you're talking about a late first-round pick. Very few late first-round picks amount to anything. Yes, you can point to maybe one or two in each draft, but there's just no way to know in advance. Any pick that late is a crapshoot, and you can't really criticize a team when they don't roll a seven.

Having said all of that, I do think Jacobsen appears to be a decent rebounder and a quicker jumper than one might expect.

The problem with Casey is he never got his shot at C.:D

.... but at least he got a shot, that's more that I can say for some...... Googs, Brown, Tsakalidis all DNP's. If Casey were 3" taller / 15lbs heavier, he never would have gotten in the damn game. What a joke! What really surprises me is, why hasn't Brown gotten any PT?:D :D

Here in Taiwan, it's the first time they showed a Suns-Spurs playoff game. What a game! This Suns team has lots of heart. We twice almost got back from that 24 pts deficit. That foul call on Marbury to give Bowen 3 FTs was really bad and broke it for them finally. Duncan got away with a couple fouls at rebounding. But otherwise, the officiating seemed OK. Some random observations:

1. Penny is good and steady. Too bad that his wide open 3pt shot on a Steph feed close to the end didn't go in.

2. Amare seems to play much better later in the game. His reaction at the beginning and the middle of the game seems a bit slow. But later, he was able to properly defend Duncan and Robinson one-on-one and to get into good offensive positions for his power moves. He will be great!

3. It's good to see Marion attacking the hoop. He's got quite good handle on the ball. But his weakness revealed itself also. His release point for the shot is too low or he need to do it too quick, negating his quickness advantage. His last 3pt attempt was blocked by Ginobili! My advice, take some Jazz dance instructions and practise isolations of body parts!

4. Casey fought hard. He will be good in a couple of years with experiences.

5. It's nothing one can do if Marbury was injured like that. We can only hope that next game his shooting touch comes back a bit earlier. Maybe FJ should use him as the off guard on offense at the beginning, hoping Penny could get him some uncontested shots to get him warmed up sooner.

6. They should pay more attention as to how to neutralize Rose. He got too many good positions in the paint for offensive rebounds or layups. I don't know whether it's inevitable the way we play defense, which was good everything considered. We'd have won the game with a bit better offensive executions.

All in all, I am proud of this Suns team. Even if we lost this series, the future is very promising indeed.

It's time (Game 6) that this team puts together an entire game. No more 30 pt 1st halfs then a 50 pt second half.

Please. Let's go to the locker at the half in game 6 in the 50's.

well i guess that the mass of posters on this tread dont have a clue about basketball. why dont they put big jake in? because he can't run and is so slow that you could tie a rope to his ankle and have tim duncan run around him like a merry go around and you would think that nothing had happened. you have a small forward that has been on teem usa 3, is an all star and is ranked in the 10 ten in crunch time stats and he is called weak and worthless.

the simple fact is you put your best guys out on the floor and play them against the other teams best guys and one team walks away with the win. dont think for a min that the spurs are a bad team they have the reigning MVP, the coach of the year and the 6th man of the year, plus the best winning record of the season and you think that putting big jake in is going to help this team walk away with the win every night?

this team has one of the top point guards (he is only 26 and has only played in a handful of playoff games), a has been 31 year old shooting guard that is almost as slow as thunder dan before we got some team out there to buy into the old myth of what he had been. the starting small forward is one of the best rebounder and open court players in the nba right now but is going up against one of the best defenders in the nba and he is only 25 years old (hey isnt it a wonder that MJ didnt win a championship till he was 28). our starting powerforward was looking into what he was going to be wearing to prom this time last year and really isnt having plays run for him just like marion. and bench for this team is weak. you bench is googs (who?), little jake, outlaw, and joe johnson (only 21 and man give this guy a couple years and he maybe really something special), and casey jacobson who is a rookie who can hit the long shot and play with a lot of heart but after that well? what do you expect out of this team?

do i think that they will come back in game 6? yes. do i think this is this teams year? heck no we are a couple years away. but this team has shown a lot of heart and give them some time and a better offense and in a couple years this team will be really worth something but right now give them a brake.

Good points, scotsman.

But, coaches MUST make adjustments. Especially in the playoffs.

What part of the 1st half DIDN'T deserve an adjustment?

Are you saying "just live with what you have on the court"?

FJ was stubborn tonight.

If winning a basketball game is that simple, teams don't need a coach.

Exactly.

Funny how some posters on here love to take the extreme simplistic approach.

If you just put the best players on the floor against the other team's best players, why have benches? Why have plays? Let's just do 5 on 5 at Kiwanis and just be done with it, eh?

Have your opinion about Big Jake all you want, but I find it in extremely poor taste that if some people don't agree with the thoughts of some on this board, they turn to bashing--mostly by those who have only 6 posts.

Express your opinion, but at least have the decency to recognize that others might have one at least a little different than yours.

Ok, raise your hand if you said that the Spurs are a bad team! No? Nobody? Gee, nobody thinks the Spurs are a bad team. And nobody, I mean NOBODY, thinks that Big Jake is going to be the difference between a win and a loss. BUT, it doesn't hurt to put him in and see what he does to the complexion of the game. If it doesn't work, fine, he got a few minutes, we saw what he could (or couldn't) do. But if it does work, great, we took a chance and it paid off.

Stop making gross generalizations about those of us that have posted on this thread, because, frankly, you are just plain wrong.

I did see the word team in your post....

What you’re forgetting is that basketball IS a TEAM sport and yes, you play the best players but you’re not going to win in the playoffs with individual players. Coaching 101 should include a chapter on playing the best player you have at each position. Many of us feel that big Jake is probably our best C, but he has not had any opportunity to prove us right or wrong. FJ flat out does not know how to us big men. Someone said he would have Shaq on the bench. I think whoever said that would be 100% correct if Shaq was just starting out and had not had the opportunity to show what he could do.

The Suns are not losing this series because Johnson refuses to play Tsakalidis.

The Suns are losing this series because the Spurs are a better team. Phoenix has some challenges to throw at San Antonio, and San Antonio has some challenges to throw at Phoenix. When you add it up, however, San Antonio just has more answers.

It is true that one answer the Suns don't have is how to match up at center. Does anyone really believe that Tsakalidis could defend Robinson/Duncan/Rose any better than the current Suns "centers" are? Sure, I suppose it's worth a try here or there, but there's no particular reason to think it might work. Tsakalidis hasn't shown much at all this season against anyone except O'Neal -- and while it's true that he hasn't been given the chance, that mistake has already been made.

I think the Suns know full well that they have a problem at center. Like most posters here, I had hoped that they would try to address that problem this season by developing Tsakalidis. But first he was ineffective, and then he got hurt, and then the Suns had to fight like hell just to make the playoffs, when it was too late to experiment. The opportunity to learn more about Tsakalidis this season is over. We can only hope that they redouble their efforts next year.

Why does everyone think that if you post about Jake getting a run in the game your thoughts are as if he's the difference in us winnning. NONE of us have said that. It's an option we haven't gone to which is there. Why not try. Atleast we know it worked or didn't, if he plays a few mins like Chap said.

Suns needs to play a decent first half. last 2 games the first and second halfs have been night and day. We need a nice sunset. Though only to set on San Antonio :)

Are you guys as frustrated about Big Jake as my Uncle?

He's a huge Suns fan and all he can say is "Of all the European players, the Suns have to get one that isn't much of an 'impact' player."

Since I skimmed some of the comments regarding Jake and his not being used, I thought I'd toss out my Uncle's theory. He said the Suns beat the Spurs 3 to 1 during the regular season, mostly without Big Jake being healthy or getting off the bench. They are obviously "going with what worked."

Oh well. Still pulling for you guys to beat the Spurs.

Best of luck in Games 6 and 7.
