Only 8% of the teams who lose their opening game go on to the next round. (Barring a miracle) so much for Serbia being the "sleeper pick" to win it.

Good job Ghana...a good young team with a lot of athleticism.

Missing their best playmaker in Essien and a solid player Muntari.

Very impressed with Ghana. Very unimpressed by Serbias offense.

Serbia did not look good. Ghana looked ok, but they are going to have a tough time scoring goals against Australia and Germany.

Does this result give Australia a chance in the group? If their game today ends in a draw, Australia has got to be the favorite to advance with Germany.

Thought their D played well, with the exception of a few lapses. I knew Vidic and Ivanovic were world class defenders, but was really impressed with Koralov, rumors to Real Madrid are definitely justified.

Krasic, Jovanovic were garbage though. Like i predicted, Serbias lack of offense might cost them a chance to move on and do some damage.

Mesnah looked solid at the back, just wish he didnt have those injury problems with Sunderland. The man cant seem to get more than 3 games in a row without breaking down again.

Now come one Oz beat those German buggers :trout:

Our next game is hardly "must-win". A draw will not prevent us from advancing but will make the third game huge for us. A win of course would be ideal.

The US is capable of beating Germany--but when it comes to the final 16 they are going to face a tough opponent regardless.

A draw with Slovenia means that we would need help from the English to advance. I consider any situation where the outcome means that you are depending on others for help a "must-win".

Tie: Slovenia has 4 to our 2. England would have to beat them for us to advance. And we would need to beat Algeria in another "must-win".

Loss: It's over. Down 6-1 to Slovenia, & probably 4-1 to England.

As far as playing Germany..... To hell with that, they are killing the aussies already. I would much rather take on the Aussies or Ghana. I think the Aussies will be #2 by the way and we would have the CLEAR advantage there.

Also, a 1C vs. 2D matchup means that we would get the winner of 1A (Mexico or France) & 2B (S. Korea or Argentina) in the round of 8. We can beat all 4 of those squads IMO.

Gotta love Referee Marco Antonio Rodriguez giving Ozil a yellow for flopping. Other refs should start doing the same.

Lets not get carried away. It was great that the US managed to get a point vs England, but it was on the "Hand of Clod" and a heroic effort from Tim Howard. The US would be elucky to get points vs Germany. They are looking pretty damn strong right about now.

I think it's safe to say that Germany and South Korea have by far been the best teams of the tournament so far.

Yes the US was lucky to get points from England but IMO England is a better team than Germany. If the US can beat Spain and hold England to 1 goal they can beat Germany...it doesn't mean it will happen but the US is capable of it (I never said guarantee or will or anything close).

I thought it was kinda ironic a Mexican referee giving a card for diving when it's as much a part of Mexican soccer as anything else.

Not exactly... we draw Slovenia, England wins, we sit with 2 points, Slovenia with 4 and England with 4...last game England & Slovenia draw we win...3 teams tied at 5 points goes to goal differential. Game 3 would be must win for us but if that played out England wins we advance, Slovenia wins we advance. Hardly makes game 2 must win--just "must draw".

Cahill red card, no chance for the Aussies to advance now that they are missing him for the next match.

Yep.... Ghana should get the #2 now. Especially since the Aussies have Ghana next.

So much for them missing starters and not being the class of the group.

Aussies are done -4 goal diff and no Cahill next game.

They have looked good. Lots of movement from midfield and decent in front of goal. Bad call on the red card but they were already out of it.

Looking forward to tomorrow.

I am gonna get zero sleep this month. I get off work at 4AM sleep for 2 hours or so watch the 6:30 AM game then the 9 AM game then a couple hour nap and then the afternoon game then a couple hours more nap before work. Good thing I have a lot of sick days on the books.

I am hoping to watch every game, all the group game 3's will have to be one on the big screen and one on the 'Net (wish I had picture in picture).
