Who said anything about being disappointed? What are you talking about?

I would prefer NOT facing Germany in the round of 16 if we get there. I don't know why you're so upset by that. And that was my opinion before the match today.

Oh, and my post you quoted was a joke. You need to chill out.
yes if you are bob bradley you are playing for the number one seed. and you are on equal footing with england...and control your own destiny with slovenia/algeria. so play for the #1 seed.....

Well when everyone says game 2 is a "must win" when it isn't you are setting yourself up for disappointment (I know you did not say that Chap) but things are just out of the US' control, we can play great the next 2 games and England can play better and we still finish second. They ultimately can't really control who they face in next round so it really doesn't make any sense to worry about it.

BTW I knew it was a joke since you put your "smiley" there

Everyone is usually cautious in their opening until the teams start getting their jitters out. They usually start out like this until the teams get more of a feel for the crowds. I agree though, with the exception of South korea, everyones been playing pretty relaxed.
I would have to agree with that. I fell asleep watching the mexico/south africa game on Tivo. I was out on a date with my kids during the france uraguay matchup lol. Thankfully I slept through the skorea/greece matchup. But watching germans to me was watching the first team that seemed to play without a lot of nerves or negative emotion...and it showed with how easily they created chance after chance. they probably should have scored 8 goals. Most of the teams that i've watched look like the lights are too bright for them...that would include england/USA it seemed really tight. Hell I was struggling to get through the star spangled banner myself, I can't imagine what the players were thinking at that point.

1. Yes they are a lot better. The team in 2002 only played well in the game they lost, the final.

2. It doesn't matter if it is 1-0 or 5-0. You lost that is the bottom line and you will lose again if you meet Germany in the knockout rounds.

Do you really remember 2002? they had a goal diff of +10 in the group stages, until the final they had scored 14 goals and surrendered 1.

Yes the final score doesn't matter but that day the score didn't reflect how close the US came to beating Germany(outshooting the Germans 6-2)...a deliberate handball (and it probably would have resulted in a straight red making the game 10 Vs 11) made a huge difference if you think otherwise, thats revisionist history. Germany won because Oliver Kahn was awesome and the Germans made the most of their best chance on goal.

I remember that game. In a way the tables flipped. One would have thought if we were to beat germany it would have been the way they beat us. But that's fooball sometimes. I remember Ballack after the game praising the US team saying something along the lines of the US team was the better team that day. I was crushed that we lost given the chances. I really wish that reyna shot found the goal. didn't ronaldhino hit a shot like that vs. england?

Almost twice as much as US. (Eng-15, US-8)

Try 7, only 2 for England.

Im not trying to say the US' draw was unimpressive. They managed to hold one of the most talented teams to only one goal despite so many shots/shots on goal. If they're going to do some damage in the next round, its going to take Tim Howard replicating saturday's efforts, and a hell of a lot better showing by the offense.
Rubbish. You are quoting stats. A shot on goal would count if it were a weak effort that was easy to save. It doesn't make it a chance. They had - Heskey's shot
- Wright-Phillips shot
- Rooney effort that went wide

about the same as the US in terms of actual chances. You really do like to twist things to say whatever you want. Like when you quoted the stat about US v Mexico results (but instead of the last 10 years you went back to a time when the US barely knew what football was.

Because they opened 8-0 against the Saudis.. and then we played what Paraguay, USA and South Korea to the final and played only well in the final against Brazil a game we dominated but lost.

Haven't been able to post much 'live', but thought Michael Bradley played a great game for you, haven't seen his name mentioned a lot. And a honourable mention for the USA jersey, best uni's so far.

Ghana was refreshing, i liked their offensive intentions. Young, powerful. The Serbs were a disappointment though, way to calculative.

The Aussie red card was a bit harsh, and they could've had a penalty, but the Germans by far the most impressive side so far.

For it being a Netherlands game, this sure has been boring.
I expected a lot more from Netherlands.

Take it however you'd like to. We could always just look at the last match played between US-MX ;)

Early? ;)

going for a lunch time pint from work to watch the second half today. The lad who sits at the desk next to me got Netherlands in the work sweep so he has is right up for it.

Good luck Rode

Started around 4am AZ time :(

Wish i had gotten some sleep instead. After this game, its pretty much easy sailing for the rest of group play for the dutch.

Japan has never won a WC game outside of Korea/Japan. It'd be cool if they get their first win today.

Now you guys know what it feels like to be a Cardinals fan from Holland, especially Sunday and Monday Night Football ;)

Pretty good first 25 minutes, during which we controlled the game but couldn't create much against a Denmark that kept the areas small. Especially the triangle of Van Persie, Sneijder and Van der Vaart kept making it difficult for us by constantly coming into the ball in the center of the field and clogging the already crowded passing lanes. The second part of the first half the Danes were the better side.

Lucky with the own goal to start the second half, and with Elia in to keep the field wide and create depth (Sneijder got much more room to play because of that), it was much better.

Decent start to the tournament nevertheless. With a lot of room for improvement though.

@English, thanks, we needed it.

Huge difference in time of possession for Netherlands vs. Denmark, but I was very surprised at the lack of goals by the Dutch. Van Persie kept moving away from his left foot, which was weird. The Dutch only scored one goal and it was off a post rebound. The Dutch need to get their offense going against the rest of the group, which shouldn't be too hard.

Must be great to be a Japanese fan, (hopefully) getting their first ever WC win outside of Japan/Korea.

Robben better bring his scoring boots. Mexico played a weird combo of players in their friendly and Netherlands didnt really look too impressive. Soon as Gio-Vela-Hernandez were in, they could not contain them. It'll be interesting to see how they fare vs other more offensive teams.
