Why in the world are you guys bickering about US vs. Mexico? Who cares right now? Amazing how Mexico fans, that are American no less, talk so much smack about their own country. S

God forbid Americans learn a different language other than English :p
I was just using Barca as an example of a world class team.

They're getting beat in their own turf, too.

Other than Altidore, whos done nothing in Spain and England, which other young players are worthy of mentioning? Torres? Holden? Spector is the only decent prospect in the defense, and that's about it. The U17, U20 teams have gotten embarrassed in competition vs other nations.

Refer back to last year's Gold Cup to see a good glimpse of that "youth" the US has got.

I don't hate the US, like most Mexico fans do, so im certainly hoping we get more "out of nowhere" guys like Dempsey.
actually language has little to do with it....it's the culture. american players would prefer to play in england. Barcelona and real madrid are the only two spanish teams worth mention. the rest of la liga is unbalanced and cannot compete. However these two teams are filled with world class players. it is doubtful the USA will ever have a player on these teams...they would be fortunate if they got one...

when has mexico beat the USA on its turf? there's the gold cup if you are counting that as a match. If you are counting that it goes to show how desperate a mexican fan really is. Also many of those players are MLS based players not necessarily in the youth team pools aren't they? A great deal of the players who have had success for the USA on youth teams are already in the current 23 man roster...and they are still very young. Michael Bradley, benny feilhaber, jozy altidore, jon spector, etc have played against youth teams like argentina(I remember watching them beat MESSI's youth team). They also had a decent showing in the beijing olympics...including a great showing against the dutch. again many of the strong young players are on the 23 man roster(just like mexico's young players that have excelled are on their roster currently) and most of the USA's best young talent was at the confederation cup and did not participate in the gold cup....whereas mexico had a lot of their A team present at the gold cup because they lost their shot at the international tourney due to the previous USA loss.

I'm just wondering where all of this mexican dominance talk is coming from because in the last decade mexico hasn't dominated anything....not even a weak CONCACAF....nor have they shown signs that they will dominate moving forward. The one thing i will give mexico credit for is reloading their team like the USA did after 2006. Mexico were in shambles about 18 months ago and when they brought javier aguirre back he and some youth helped mexico pull their head out of the rear....and they got back to where they typically have been which is being good team. However, that shouldn't be misconstrued as dominance. I can see how a fan could be excited though. I know I would I actually questioned whether or not mexico was going to qualify there for a second.

On the same note the USA can feel just as excited for their team. Soccer here has progressed a ton. I mean when was the last time the USA was favored to come out of their group at the WC? this is the first time....and considering most of the roster is filled with young players it gives a USA fan the right to believe there are a lot of promising years ahead.

Eventhough I feel that we have caught up with mexico... I understand that the USA doesn't play the quality of football that other european countries do(add argentina and brazil). so you have americans that are fans of other countries. I get that to an extent, but If you are american how can you be a fan of another over your home country? that doesn't make sense to me....and I am of mexican decent....my grandmother is from mexico. I would never cheer for mexico to beat my USA. that is terrible.

USA is always going to be my first love, but let's face it, the reality is that there is not much chance of us competing for the World Cup. Get far in the tournament? Maybe, but certainly not win it.

I lived in Holland for a year, so I'll follow and root for the Dutch. My favorite team in the world is Barcelona, so I'll definitely be cheering for Spain, and between Arsenal, Juventus and Bayern Munich, there are a lot of big teams out there that I'll follow to see how they do (Germany, Italy, England). And then of course, Lionel Messi is my favorite player, so I'll watch Argentina and Brazil is just nice to watch period. So while my loyalty is to the US, I love the game so much I'll watch just about anything.

Oh, except Mexico. I hate them. :D

Very unlikely. How Altidore got there, I have no idea.

It was a preview of the dominance that is to resume. (It actually already has, 2 consecutive wins for El Tri) :-D

You sure you're not talking about the US' Womens team? Now there's a team for ya. Again, outside of Alidore, maybe Holden, the US' youth is looking pretty crappy, from a prospect standpoint. Really sucks that some world class prospects like Subotic, Rossi have spurned them to play for other nations, but maybe they realize that they'll be playing for a relatively untalented team and bolt elsewhere.

Call me when you win a CONFED cup. thx

France defender William Gallas has emerged as a major doubt for his side’s World Cup Group A clash with Mexico on Thursday after suffering a calf injury in training today.

Who replaces the French captain?

This actually is going to be good for France. Gallas is a great player, but a detriment to the team. I expect a better game vs. Mexico. Have no idea what they'll do, maybe move Abidal into center and start another left back?

Sunderland player watch

I thought Da Silva was great last night, lets just hope he starts off like for Sunderland next season after being a little hit and miss last year.

It was my first real look at Riveros and i think he will be a decent player for us. Seem to be good on the ball and have a decent range of passing, although he played in a quite defensive midfield and form what i had read about him was expecting more of a playmaker/ attacking player. Then again they were playing the world champions so a less attack minded display was to be expected.

Hope so. Abidal was the one french defender who looked below average vs Uruguay. I wouldnt mind if he got shifted to another position :)

Congrats to the Kiwis, that was really clutch. They were expected to be one of the worst teams in the entire cup and now they have as good a chance to move on as the defending champs.

Ivory coast is surprisingly strong in my view. They're lacking creativity a bit, but they're dominating the Portugese with ease.

Isn't that mainly with Ronaldo though? W/ the exception of him, id say Portugals about as even as any other team in the cup as far as complaining goes.

Watch the Portugal game in last world cup with like 200 yellow/red cards. The whole team whines, cries, kicks players, hold, dives. Ugh. But yeah They get their lead from Ronaldo who is the worst.
