I realize that second goal was a mistake by Osorio but what balance by Higuain and a nice finish.

Which Argentine hit his head on the camera and then slapped the camera in response? That was a LOL for me.

Embarrassingly offsides on Tevez. Osorio needs to be burned alive for giving that ball away. Facking ridiculously stupid error.

however, I think what will be important isn't what these guys are doing between 18-22 at the university level, but what they are doing between 13-18

You are right, the American system is quiet amateur compared to Europe. Over here if you are discovered early as a talent you usually go to a pro club very early and often live in their private schools.

The clubs run a real school and make sure the kids get school education and in the afternoon its soccer training and that begins at age of 6 and as soon as you are good enough you practice with the pros or get thrown into the water in a competitive pro game.

The whole college and draft system can't compete.

Hate that Marquez always loses his head when something bad happens. I gotta admire the fighting spirit that were still fighting rather than just giving up. If the US can come back from 2-0, so can Mexico. Even if its against the argies. My subs: Barrera for Bautista, Moreno for Osorio.

IMO Mexico was taking it to them early, they were unlucky that they didn't find the back of the net first. That goal that was gifted from the ref's changed things though, at that point they started losing their composure. Hard tackles and two handed shoves to the back are only going to get your team in further trouble.

His father is from the Spain and his mother from Germany or the other way around, born and raised in Germany however.

Biggest defeat ever for England in a World Cup.

Germany's golden generation.

Mueller, Kroos, Adler, Neuer, Badstuber, Boateng, Hoewedes, Hummels, Marin, Oezil to name some are between 20 and 22. Lahm is like 26 and Schweinsteiger, Mertesacker and Podolski 25. Aogo, Tasci and Jansen 23.

We are the youngest team in the World Cup.
why do you have a picture of amare stoudamire? Something just isn't adding up here. where is your american culture coming from? I would have my countryman dirk on my sig and cheer for the mavs. Dirk is not an american god like kobe, dwade, or lebron, but he is still worthy of being an allstar. let me compare...

I love world football. but given that I am from texas I don't have allegience to an abroad football club. therefore rather than being a follower(wagon jumper) I would cheer for clubs that my national heroes play for(everton/fulham/AC milano etc). even if they aren't the best or certified slinslin german gods(sarcasm). I just can't be a wagoneer.

It's one thing to see people jumping on board the yankee/laker/cowboy(which I am a arlington native so they are my team). But it is that much more annoying to see americans(not immigrants that's different) pledging all of their allegience to foreign countries at the world cup. that is cheap if you ask me. This last paragraph isn't addressed to you slinslin if you are from germany I understand why you would be loyal.

Excellent point.

We do have such a system for the individual sports. There are "Academies" for both Golf and Tennis. School in the AM sports in the PM. But those are usually only at the High School level.

I've also heard that there are some "prep" schools that take basketball players with the same but concealed intent.

soccer just isn't that important here. I thought klinsman said it best in the postgame. until USA is able to tap into the inner city kids..or lower middle class..for soccer they will not have the great players that the other countries have. he used basketball as a comparison. he made a great point. I think the USA should be commended in soccer(just as they are in hockey) in the fact that they can trade blows with some of the best teams in the world despite having much less talent. we aren't german gods, english creators, dutch skill, brazil flare, or argentine drama. but USA play with heart and pride.

we need to do a better job of developing the game and spreading it into the streets where kids can't afford or would ever think of playing in a kid league.

I think there definitely is an impact - my university doesn't have football, but still has cut many mens sports .... for that they get recognized as having one of the most diverse athletic programs .......... it's crap

however, I think what will be important isn't what these guys are doing between 18-22 at the university level, but what they are doing between 13-18

MLS is getting better and they are a well run league ... combine that with teams like Chelsea opening up youth academies and some steps in the right direction are being made

I wouldn't mind seeing a summer exchange type program where our players go for 6 week to a foreign country to train and learn ..... they need to be versed in different styles and receive coaching that is beyond the norm for the US

Well that is one reason I started thinking about Title IX's impact. There has been a huge increases in "select" soccer in the US over the last 25 years for the 13-18 crowd. (Don't get me started on the communist kickball played by the 10U kids...) However, those programs stop for the most part after high school (18U) and the Colleges take over from 18-22.

Because of football of course and title IX, the majority of the Universities with the money to pay the best coaches and supply the best training facilities don't participate in Men's Soccer. Ohio State, I believe is the only BCS title winner to have a Men's soccer team.

For an idea of how different it is for Women vs Men just look at the Adidas top 25 rankings for Division I. http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/index.html

This really stands out when you see the US Women competing at the highest level globally ( two wins and 3 third place finishes) while our men don't.

yeah he should of slapped a fifa ref instead....or his coach who needs a backhand to turn his beard black(that's the nicest thing i can say about the jerk). Fifa might as well be micromanaging the goal celebration like the camera's do lol.

Looks like Mexico's "Golden Generation" is going out in the Round of 16. Again.
yeah..they got a tough draw.. if they draw ghana they probably have the fortitude to beat them. wait is this the knockout stage? this is typical. guardado could have had a goal. I thought mexico would lose by a goal, but getting beatdown this bad is nothing to be proud of(youth or not).

mexico is not there mentally. they have lost it. little things like clearing the ball out of the box...striking a proper corner...are not happening for their side. they always seem to have talent to compete, but they get there and they break down mentally.
