With as much Germans as there are in Mexico (certain parts, of course,) it was surprising to me that it had taken this long for a hispanic last name to surface on their NT.

His father is from the Spain and his mother from Germany or the other way around, born and raised in Germany however.

Biggest defeat ever for England in a World Cup.

Germany's golden generation.

Mueller, Kroos, Adler, Neuer, Badstuber, Boateng, Hoewedes, Hummels, Marin, Oezil to name some are between 20 and 22. Lahm is like 26 and Schweinsteiger, Mertesacker and Podolski 25. Aogo, Tasci and Jansen 23.

We are the youngest team in the World Cup.

You are moving there, really? When? I've never even been to South America--but that will change in 2014.

When I retire. My wife and I hope to buy a place in the next 6 years. Then in retirement spend 6 months there in summer and 6 months here for the kids over the summer.

Speaking of Golden Generations... :-D

Mexico should be one of the youngest teams, but the coach (like most,) likes his veterans. Hence the 37yr old, 5'7 keeper :-[

Like I said. If England didn't show up 100% Germany would expose them easily. Ozil, Schweinsteiger and Muller are brilliant and a joy to watch.

The last thing I will say to Slin (OK, probably not true as it's hard not to reply to his crap) is market value of players doesn't mean ****. Of course the German players are rated more because they play in Europe. Donovan, Howard and Dempsey would all make the squad. It would be interesting to see how well most of your German team would play in different leagues. Of course we won't see that as they don't want to test themselves in England or Spain.

We are the youngest team in the World Cup.

It's kinda funny that you claim that people don't know their history, but Ghana is the youngest team in the World Cup, not Germany.

Too bad the 2014 WC is in Brazil... These German youngsters would prolly be a top favorite if it was in Europe or Africa.

My guess is that Slin will have to wait until 2018 for a good chance at the Finals.

Okay, so I really want to vent my frustrations here, but first I have to acknowledge that my expectations were too high. Everyone's expectations were too high. Yes, there are some tangible, should-have-been-avoided reasons that I'll get into when I rip into U.S. soccer in a while, but we have to face the facts.

.

I know this has probably been asked before but:

How much effect does Title IX have on Men's soccer in the US? The Big XII, Big 10, SEC and PAC 10 have exactly 13 Men's soccer teams between them. 6 in the PAC 10, and they have to include San Diego State from the Mountain West to get to 6, and 7 in the Big 10.

The SEC and Big XII do not play men's soccer.

Virginia beat Akron, AKRON!, for the 2009 NCAA Soccer title.

In the US with the exception of baseball the training ground for adult sports teams are the colleges and universities. With a substantial number of the countries largest schools not participating how can that not hurt the sport?

Many of the Schools that do participate appear to be those with higher academic standards. So only kids with 1200+ SAT scores get to go to college to play soccer?

Of course we all know the main reason is American Football but I thought the impact of title IX on men's soccer, and volleyball as well, was an interesting topic for discussion.

I think there definitely is an impact - my university doesn't have football, but still has cut many mens sports .... for that they get recognized as having one of the most diverse athletic programs .......... it's crap

however, I think what will be important isn't what these guys are doing between 18-22 at the university level, but what they are doing between 13-18

MLS is getting better and they are a well run league ... combine that with teams like Chelsea opening up youth academies and some steps in the right direction are being made

I wouldn't mind seeing a summer exchange type program where our players go for 6 week to a foreign country to train and learn ..... they need to be versed in different styles and receive coaching that is beyond the norm for the US

I thought that was what i read somewhere too. Ghana is a very young team. They are primarily constituted of players that beat Brazil last year at the U-20 world cup tournament.

If Spain and Argentina do their homework we will have two fantastic matches in the next 2 rounds.

Germany vs Argentina and the winner against Spain. Those are the 3 best teams in the tournament and the winner would play Netherlands or Brazil in the finals.

1.Spain
2.Argentina
3.Germany
4.Netherlands
5.Brazil
6.Portugal

My personal ranking.

This is correct.
Don't know how reliable the source is, but heres a link

I am not sure that link is up to date since it is from the 2nd of June.

I hear every day on the broadcast that Germany and Ghana are the two youngest teams so I take that. Couldn't care less if one team averages out at 24.3 and one at 24.6 .

You know what sucks? In a normal World Cup, I'd be rooting for Germany, but slinlin's horrible posting has effectively ruined any German game for me. Can't talk about anything without him mentioning how great he thinks Germany is.

Mexicos got nothing to lose. Argentina is a giant and they're expected to do well.

The pressures on the argies... Time for MEXICO to upset them!!!

I think Brazil is the best of the lot. And a Spain v. Brazil final would stop the world IMO.

I am still rooting for the dutch though.... With Robben back they will be a very tough out.

LOL. I had the exact same thought this morning.

If the Argies knock out Mexico and Germany they will forever be legends in my book.

10 min in and it could easily be 2-2. What a wide open game!

I wanna go even further and say that it's most important what they do at 6-13. Tactics are overrated and can be trained at a later age. Muscle and strength are acquirable later on. Very young age is when you acquire ball skills, technique, and most importantly, love of the game. Let the kids play but guide them.

When i moved from the juniors to the seniors (17/18), a selection of American youthplayers, i believe it was the New England area, visited Europe. Somehow we played a friendly. We lost 5-4 or something like that, fun night.

I especially remember the guys sitting behind the bar of our clubhouse secretly drinking a bottle of Heineken :), with covered up bottles so that their coaches couldn't see it.

Wow. Mexico was screwed. Bad officiating might be the thing this WC is best remembered for.

I could understand if Tevez was a foot or so offside, but he was offside by a good two to three yards.

USA, England, Mexico...how many teams have to get screwed over before FIFA adopts replay? Blatter is such an idiot.

Why would this world cup be remembered for officiating. This is my 4th world cup and all have been humiliatingly awful. I am sure all the ones prior to me watching were dreadful as well. Its a sport that should be wagered on not by the weighing of two teams but what the officials want to see.
