No matter what you believe about this upcoming season , there seems to be more excitement about this season than there has been for a long, long time. The Kool-aid Gang is running rampant and have seemed to overtake the Darksiders. But when the dust settles, what will you considered a successful season?
I for one, am sick of dull, out of the game by half time, out of the playoffs by the middle of October, football. I'm sick of being slumped in my favorite chair halfway into the first quarter with the "here we go again" attitude. I'm tired of getting a beer being the only reason to get up out of my chair. I'm sick of channel surfing on Sundays during time outs and not worrying about missing a play or two because "whats the big deal" ? I'm sick of sitting there asking myself why am I so passionate about this team?
So IMHO, give me a season where my blood starts flowing. You know , the same feeling we have on the opening kickoff on opening day. Give me an exciting team that can score from anywhere on the field. Give me a team that never seems totally out of any game.
I'm not expecting miracles this season. Sure , I dream and fantasize of making the playoffs this year. There will be times between now and September 12th that I will certainly spill a jug of kool-aid in my post. Thats only because year after year thats the only time all us Big Red fans can have optimism.
Give me 500. football this year. And I'm going to be picky here. I don't want to win the last 4 games of the season to end up at 8-8. That would mean we were 4-8 and totally out of the running. Hang around .500 all year. Get to game 14, 15 or 16 where it appears we have a shot to slip into the playoffs.
Do this , and football will be fun again. To me, this would be an acceptable and realistic season.
Whats your opinion?

It seems that occasionally in the seventies and eighties, the cards were at least mathematically alive for the playoffs going into the last couple of weeks. That was always fun.

6-8 wins and no blow out losses. Being close starting the 4th qtr in every game. In contention for the division lead going into the last four games of the season.

Also, a few more sacks and TFL on this defense. Defense should rank in the top 15 overall. The offense should rank in the top 15 overall as well.

More than 5 wins. That's all I ask this year.

On offense:

The ability to consistently run the ball.

Never seeing us put the full back in motion, signalling to everyone on the planet the direction we are going to run the ball.

Scoring a touchdown on the opening drive more than once in the season

More touchdowns than FGs (I swear 1 TD and 3 FGs for 16 points is the most common Cardinal score). Heck I will settle for an even split.

Actually trying to score with 45 seconds left in the half.

On defense:

Our defensive line able to play with a lead...which will lead to more sacks.

Our LBs not our secondary making most of the tackles.

Our corners not playing 5 yards off the receiver when we have a 3 point lead.

Ugh! That has been a staple of the Cards offense for years. :bang:

Mostly I just want to see NO BLOWOUTS. Being competetive in at least 12 games would be great.

I'd also like to see some unpredictable offensive play calling and game planning (offense and defense) for match-ups against the other teams. If they play a young QB known for not being able to read zone coverages don't play man-to-man! No more trying to establish the running game by running between the tackles on first and second down, then passing on 3rd and long. Well, ok maybe once in awhile, but not on the FIRST FOUR POSSESIONS OF THE GAME!! :hulk:

And one more thing, plays that fit the packages and situations on defense. If the CB consistently backs up past the first down marker (or doesn't even get on the field for a goal line play) BENCH HIM!.

7 wins, competitve losses.

High scoring games and over 30 sacks.

No stories coming out that the other team knew all over defensive signals and blitz schemes. That still pisses me off.

  1. More sacks
  2. More points on offence
  3. Few points on defence
  4. No blowouts

With that I could handle 6-10.

1. So many media at the Cards facility on Fridays, they have to limit access.
2. John Gambodoro act like he's always been a Cards fan.
3. Traffic jams around SDS 90 mns before game time.
4. One blowout win.
5. One road win.
6. Never being a double digit underdog.

The team plays hard, physical and smart all year long.
Let the chips fall where they may.

Nice list. I agree with the exception of adding 4 road wins.

I agree SKorp. This should be a very telling season. We play 16 of the total 32 teams in the NFL including the preseason. That's right 16 diferent teams.

Now that should alone give us a good indication on how we are progressing. Also no stiffs, from out side our division. A really hard schedule; but very telling.

The poor record last year wasn't nearly as bad as the fact that we were completely uncompetitive in several games.

As long as we can avoid the blown-out-every-week feeling, I don't care how many we win. I would welcome a 2-14 season if someone could promise me that I'd never have to watch another game like last year's road loss in San Francisco. Games where no one on the team even bothers to show up are the worst to deal with as a fan.

I'd love for the 6 wins to be @SL, NE, @MIA, SF, @SF and TB. For a 6-10 record that would mean .500 against NFC West, .500 against AFC, first win ever over the Fins and defeating both of the last 2 Superbowl champs at home. Also, the first time in many years, certainly since the move to AZ that team would have won the season opener, the home opener and the season finale all in the same year. If all that were to happen, I would be thrilled over a 6-win season and I know the 10 losses would be competitive.

i'd like to heart Stuart Scott talk about our great win, not the other team's horrible loss.

I'd like to have a featured segment on NFL PrimeTime.

I'd like to hear the buzz about how we've improved, and are becoming a team of the future.

I'd like to have pride in my team, not just loyalty.

a successful season is determined on the ways our team shows they are worthy of our love. extra fight, more determination, extra effort to throw that saving block to give McCown just 1/2 second longer to toss Quan the game winning TD. I'm ready for a good season. I don't necessarily need a GREAT season, but a good one. for a change. good being relative to everyone, but just about ever suggestion in this thread thus far marks for a good season. now i want some TEAM hilights, not just the almight Quan.
