I think Alex Smith has made 3 difficult throws all night. It's amazing what just teaching guys to do their job and not make mistakes can do for an offense. Yeah he inherited a great defense and some talent on the OL but it's amazing what a simple offense they run and how hard it is to stop them because they execute.

Hats off to Smith he's been remarkably efficient tonight.

Yes he is and if I could trade coaches with the 49ers I would in a heartbeat.

I think they will beat us because they don't screw up near as much, the talent is relatively even IMO.

Called that as soon as NFL rumors started popping up his 2nd year at Stanford. The prodigal NFL coach IMO. just wait till he gets a legit QB

I hate to admit it but that team is tough. Textbook game, good clock mNagement, rungame, no turnovers and sufficating defense.

While understanding the intent of your post, Harbaugh is 1-1 against Wiz, each getting a win at home. And Harbaugh had the 13-3 team not the train wreck under center we did for those games.

So hold off on the trading of coaches just yet, as great as Jimmy boy is.

True dat. I'm very impressed with Harbaugh but unlike some I wouldn't trade Whiz for him. I wouldn't trade Whiz for Lombardi in his prime.

What was the score the last time they met?

I knew he was good at Stanford but even I didn't think he could make Alex Smith look this good. They kept saying it tonight they kept telling Alex you don't have to win the games, just don't lose them. Don't turn the ball over take what's there.

I do think the NFl is going to eventually start to notice some of the things they do and start to defend it better but basically his philosophy is have less plays, learn to execute them well, and learn to run them from different formations.

He's running damn near the same offense he used in college.

Agree. One of the announcers today was saying in college they basically ran three running plays and one passing play and won a whole lot of games because of execution. That's their philosophy somewhat. Keep doing what's worked and is working until they can stop you. Then go to plan B for a bit, then return back to A again because it always works. Simplistic but effective.

Yes he is very good. Especially how me manages QBs and really understands how to create mis-matches on offense. We need a legit offensive coordinator.

Yeah, you might as well play Davis like he's the primary receiver, which he pretty much is. Davis alone accounts for all kinds of mismatches. I'd stick PP on him.

This is a really myopic view of the world. W/L records against the cardinals is not how coaches are measured.

He's done a fantastic job. He was moments away from the superbowl in his first year as an NFL head coach and has his team playing the soundest fundamentals I've ever seen an team play.

JMHO

And while he inherited talent, he inherited what many considered among the worst coached teams in the NFL. What he's done in such a short time has been impressive.

I hate the 49ers but you gotta admit Harbaugh completely changed the team. The amazing thing is given what Singletary said his vision was its remarkable that Harbaugh has been able to get such buyin. Singletary's vision was play good D, run the ball, don't beat us with TO's Smith, the exact same mantra Harbaugh brought when he came in. After watching Singletary flail away its impressive that Harbaugh was able to get many of the same players to buy into the same philosophy.

But I assume it's because it was immediately apparent this guy actually knew what he was doing.

Yeah but you sure seem to be extrapolating alot here and I have almost cult level respect for Harbaugh. Keep in mind Wiz actually went to the Super Bowl WITH THE ARIZONA CARDINALS (degree of difficultty x 10 - there's a reason JH turned down more money and Miami) and again, the most accurate measure would be head to head since everything else would be fantasy (I.e what does Wiz do with 2010 9ers and JH do with 2007 Cardinals)

You are the one who said you would "trade" Wiz for Harbaugh. I wasn't saying Harbaugh isn't amazing (and again I was banging this drum the MINUTE he got hired for the very reasons you postulated above - check the threads. I was terribky unhappy when he went to SF) but what if Wiz goes 2-0 against him this year and wins the division? You still trading him straight up? I'm sure the answer is still yes, but my take is it will take a little more then a seasons worth of data before I'm trading Wiz for Harbaugh. As other have saidm maybe the league figures him out or maybe his intensity starts to weigh on players. I doubt it but judging this small a sample size is begging for error.

Not that it matters because you can't trade coaches. But Wiz deserves a fair shake to let them match wits as he did go 1-1 last year.

I can't stand the guy... one of the most annoying coaches - if not THE most annoying coach - in the game today. HOWEVER, I saw a Luck-less Stanford team physically beat up USC on Saturday, and combined with this 9er team which is arguably the toughest and perhaps the best all-around team in the NFL, it's hard to argue with his coaching ability.
That Stanford team is still filled with all Harbaugh recruits... and they man-handled a bigger, more athletic USC team.

And looking at this 9er team, I honestly can't find one glaring weakness anywhere on the team. It appears the only way to beat them is to hope you catch them on an off-night/day.
And yes, even Alex Smith is playing better than 99.9% the football world though he was capable of doing... He'll never be a Hall of Famer, but, under Harbaugh, he's figured out how not to lose games...

I can't wait for our Monday nighter though!!

I can't stand Collinsworth but he was dead on last night it's remarkable how they beat them over and over with the same play. It's because they do it from different formations, after awhile you'd think Detroit would catch on but they don't. If they ever do, I'd guess there's a counter for that.

It seems his whole thing is don't try to do too much have a few things you do VERY well, and then do them, from different formations with different personnel.

To make a baseball analogy Harbaugh is the Mario Soto that was the best pitcher in baseball with 2 pitches, a mid 90's fastball and a changeup. Then some doofus taught him a slider and completely wrecked his career. If you're a 49er fan you hope that doesn't happen to harbaugh, if you're not a 49er fan you hope Moss, Manningham et al are the slider and he's about to listen to that doofus and start throwing it.

We could've had Alex Smith (twice!) and didn't make an effort to go get him. Harbaugh could've easily had Kevin Kolb and wasn't interested.

San Francisco probably has the overall talent edge (their talent across the offensive line probably offsets our advantage on the outside; they're better in the defensive front seven than we are in the secondary, probably), but let's not pretend that Whis didn't dig his own grave on the quarterback front.

You think we have the edge in secondary??
