I was just watching this conversation between Kevin Garnett and Randy Moss about NBA vs NFL and recovery times, days off, etc.

There's a very telling part that starts at about 3:08 where Randy Moss compares the "days off" between the Vikings and the Pats:

Don't forget that Moss was already almost a decade into his football career when he joined the Pats, so he was a well established STAR veteran when he joined the Pats. Really shows you BB's mentality.

While I agree that Montana was a light's-out closer, the game is a lot faster today than it was when Montana was playing.

True, but it was a hell of a lot harder for WRs to get open back then and the QBs where not protected like they are now... with his field vision and accuracy, he would thrive :)

Tom Brady. Can you believe he's 39 years old? Seems like he can play at least another 5 years.

Before we crown the Patriots as the best of all time, let's not forget that the Belichick regime has been caught for two major cheating scandals. It cost them draft choices. Additionally opposing coaches feel that their locker room is bugged and headsets seem to not work properly during games (for the opposition.) Don't want to get into a pissing contest with anyone but those are facts. However their winning track record is impressive.

The Spygate scandal was the only one proven concretely to have happened. Deflategate is looking more and more like Goodell's hard on for screwing over the Patriots.

Either way, you don't cheat your way to 15 years of owning a division.

I would never bet against Brady and Belichick, It doesn't matter who goes down to injury in that offense.... the guy taking their place, always looks like a seasoned all-pro.

Who the hell would know who Chris Hogan was if he wasn't a Patriot???

Name the NY Giants defensive coordinator who shut down the K-gun Bills?
truth...
However,...don't think of transporting the Bills squad into the future...think of transporting the Pats into the past... play the game by early 90's rules... Pats don't stand a chance... Brady would never survive Bruce Smith... because nobody on their line could block him... this pats team does not have players experienced in physical defense like the giants had.... purely on a physicality standpoint that Bills team would completely dominate... okay, so todays players are bigger, stronger, faster...fine...true to some extent... but the rules they have learned to play under limit any advantage gained... what you would have is a team of superior athletes complaining after the game because the other guys "cheated"....which would be one hell of a flip for the Pats..would be interesting though to see what kind of magic billy B has worked with his fourth string QB

Either way, you don't cheat your way to 15 years of owning a division.
This also has a lot to do with the other 3 teams being mismanaged more than anything. However, if the Patriots were simply the product of a bad division then they would wash out of the playoffs every year. Think of the Braves from 1991-2005. They won 14 division championships in 15 years(the lone year being the strike year of 1994 when the Expos were a virtual lock that year) but they only have 5 pennants and 1 world championship to show for it. The Patriots, on the other hand, the Patriots have 14 division championships since 2001 and have 7 conference championship and 5 world championships.

Bellichick is the best NFL coach just as Saban is the best college coach.

They have some things in common:

Huge attention to details both with respect to their team but also the opposition. For example, Saban makes sure he has the best long snapper coming out of high school.
They expect their players to perform and do not accept mediocracy. They have a great eye for talent available, in the case of Bellichick, from other teams or the draft.
They do not call plays on game days BUT they put in place detailed offensive plays to use as appropriate. If they think it necessary, they will tell the OC to run a specific play.
By not calling plays, they are able to look more closely at what the other team is doing and, if it deviates from what they expected, they will suggest alternative plays to the OC or alternative defenses to the DC.

Compare these things to the Cardinals head coach.

Rather than label the Pats greatest, 2nd greatest etc. Why not focus on the things they did:

The Pat OL was rock-like all thru the 2H

Brady's release was as quick as I've ever seen - almost always a split second before he'd get hit.

The Pats took time to figure out the Falcs, but must have made some really interesting halftime adjustments to turn off the Atlanta spigot.

All time best team? Don't care. All I know is that NE mounted an incredible comeback which involved certain players making ridiculous plays. One for the ages, and we were around to watch it.
