Sad? Sad!? To hell with that. This is freaking hilarious. I'm sorry I have no sympathy for thieves. To top it off he was using cocaine? Really? Who does that? Was his life that hard?

I don't have sympathy either, he'll get what he deserves, but who are any of us to judge whether his life is "hard" without even knowing the dude?
To most of us working stiffs maybe his life looked simple, but for anyone in life it's difficult to give up on a life's dream and be told you don't have what it takes. I think it's even harder when former players like him hang around the game afterward--being constantly reminded of his failure.

I don't consider him a failure. He made it to a starting NFL qb position when he really physically shouldn't have. I don't call that failing. I call that persevering.
You have no clue on the reality of being an addict if you think your question has any context within addiction. Just be glad you aren't an addict and move on.
He's an addict now?!

It's an assumption but yes, if he's stealing in order to buy cocaine, he's an addict.
Steve
Doesn't have to be used for that. I've known people (some very successful) who started because.... it felt great.
Didn't read the article, was he stealing to buy coke? Last I heard on the radio he stole about $200 worth of goods, that won't buy a lot of coke. My assumption was that he was coked out and did something stupid. Now he's an addict stealing for more product.

Non-addicts don't have their drug in the car or, or drive on it, and don't steal to buy it.
Yeah, I guess there is some kind of chance that this was the first or second time he ever got high. But, I'd bet my house and your house that is not the case here. When you get to this point, there are usually years of using in front of it.
I don't buy this, but what I will say is non-addicts normally don't use alone. I've done pretty much everything recreationally back in the day, but it was always to have "fun" and with other mofos around.
I still don't buy the assumption that he was stealing cell-phone cases to fuel a coke habit though. Given the evidence I think that's a reach. I do agree that it's most likely not his first or second time. Nobody gets busted their first time. And nobody goes out in their BYU shirt to steal while high if it's their first time. Guess he wanted us to know he was THE Max Hall.

Congrats on not being an addict yourself. To non-addicts, the behavior of addicts is incomprehensible.
FWIW, as addicts progress in their use, most do wind up using alone.
Regarding your last point, that's why I said non-addicts don't use alone in the beginning of my post. I was trying to throw a bone dude. Incomplete obviously. That being said, I'd rather not believe he's some addict stealing best buy phone cases to peddle to some dealer so he can get a fix. Until the evidence proves otherwise I'd rather think he's just an idiot rather than some addict.
Oh and as far as not being an addict, as I said that was 20 years ago or longer. There's a difference between trying something for recreation and needing it to mask issues. Huge difference.

This behavior and arrest screams "addict". I don't know how the guy is better off being an "idiot". Being an addict is a problem you can do something about. Being an idiot is uncurable.
EDIT!! Holy guacomoly, I just read the report and wow, needles? That's just sad, I hope he's on his way to rehab right now.
Yeah I heard that too. A needle and a spoon. That's a whole different level than recreation.
I didn't mean his idiocy was his natural disposition, only that he was an idiot while high. You seem hell-bent on proving that he's an addict or being right or just starting an argument. I have no side in this issue, only that I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt. What's your stance on DWash anyway, are you just as hell-bent on that, or only former players who suck?
Anyone who can't stop smoking dope who KNOWS 100%, that they will be tested, has an issue. Yes, that is addictive behavior, DWash needs help just like Max Hall does. You seem to attach a lot more "stigma" to the word addict than I do. Some of the very best people I've ever known in my life are addicts. They behave much better sober, than high. As they would readily tell you.
It has nothing to do with current player or former player for me.
Fair enough. I've known a few addicts, but they weren't the best people I've known in my life. They had serious issues, every one of them. So if that's why I place a "stigma" on them that's why. They weren't bad people, mind you, just troubled, emotionally and intellectually.
