#24. Drafted Rudy Fernandez - Traded him with James Jones to Portland for 3 million in cash (saved roughly 7.5 million in contracts including luxury tax + the 3 million in cash).

#29 Drafted Alando Tucker - If they can help him develop a consistent jumper think of Josh Howard.

#59 Drafted D.J. Strawberry - Said to be one of if not the best athlete in the draft from his workouts and is a good perimeter defender but lacks the range on his jumpshot.

Good brief writeup. We saved about 10M by trading JJ to Portland + cash.

I don't know if you are factoring it in, but even though the Suns don't have to pay the salaries of JR and #24, they have to pay the salaries of the two players they sign to reach the league minimum roster size of 15.

I'm in Canada. Can any local Arizonites tell me what local reports are saying about possible moves? Seems too quiet?

If you include Tucker and Strawberry the Suns have 11 people under contract: Nash, Amare, Marion, Bell, Barbosa, Diaw, Thomas, Banks, Piatowski, Tucker, Strawberry, FA #1 (Hill), FA #2 (?). The salary for these 11 players is $75,351,360. You figure the other 2 spots will cost around 3 million so about a 78 million dollar payroll is what they will have.

I used hoopshype salary given for the 29th position in the draft and used Hassan Adams season salary (picked 54th) as the estimate for Strawberry.

Gambo is the only person who I have heard mention anything (other then those bums at ESPN who report a new KG trade every 30 minutes) about who the Suns are targeting and he is basically saying Grant Hill or nothing. But it is Gambo so take it for whatever you thinks its worth.

The Hill rumors have been clear ever since he said he would like to come to Phoenix while interviewed on ESPN radio. The latest rumor was that he was in town house hunting and would come to agreement on Suns (first day of free agency).

Despite that, it seems like every team in the NBA is going after him. The Suns are not likely to give the kinds of deals other teams can offer including Orlando which holds his Bird rights. None the less, his expressed desire to play on a championship contender in a warm weather location sounds a lot like Phoenix.

It seems reasonable to assume that the Suns would not move Jones if they weren't pretty sure Hill would be coming.

Any word on KT? Is the plan to keep him?

Have the Suns given up on Garnett? It doesn't seem like any of the recent rumors are including the Suns? Anybody hearing anything substantial?

The Garnett deal always included draft picks, so unless there is something creative in the works, i'd reckon the rumors/proposals/etc will likely die down now.

As for KT... Someone (KT, Diaw or Banks) could be traded at the deadline and will likely require the ATL pick to make the deal happen.

The Suns have really backed themselves into a corner now and have almost zero wiggle room when it comes to salary. They will sign Hill or another vet for the minimum and maybe one more scrub to fill the roster.
