Anything more than a 3rd round pick would be a huge mistake, IMO.

Anything more than a 6th round pick would be a huge mistake.

Bad move either way. Also, why would the Cardinals trade, aren't the Raiders going to release him?

From GBN:

Carson Palmer has proven to be ineffective since being traded from Cincinnati, even when he has time in the pocket. He is now an overpaid, aging, signal caller that should be holding the clipboard on the sidelines.

Sounds like when we signed Warner. :bhiich: They had MANY problems over there besides Palmer.

Wouldn't this be sooooo Cardinalesque...give a 3rd rounder for Palmer after you just signed a guy to a 3 yr $9 mil/yr to someone that hasn't ever done jack squat thinking he's your guy & also tendering another nobody just to keep teams from picking him up? :D:biglaugh:

Yeah BA believes in those guys sooooo much that we've still got Skelton & Lindley on the roster! Lol

Stay tuned folks its gonna be a hoot :D
Am I missing something? I'm pretty sure Stanton is getting about 3M/YR not 9M/YR. That is a backup level contract for a QB with the chance of him making starter money if he performs well.

I think you guys are selling Palmer a tad short here. Yes he is 33. wont be 34 until the end of the year. Yes he threw 14 picks last year, but he also threw for over 4,000 yards last year with almost no help. He threw for more yards then all of our QB's combined last year.

This is only two years after throwing for 3900 yards in Cinci with 26 td's. He is a career 86.2 passer.

Hell he may not have anything left, but he is head and shoulders above anybody on this roster currently.

33 for a QB is nothing.

Darren mcfadden has been non existent and their wr's are a laundry list of no names and scrubs.
I agree.

Palmer came in midseason of 2011 for the Raiders and wasn't familiar with anything going on and wasn't ready from his holdout with Cincy. Then, they put in a new system and coaching staff in 2012.

And as mentioned, he hasn't exactly had a decent supporting cast in Oakland. Health or talent wise.

Sure, Palmer needs circumstances to be in his favor for him to excel but he's still a good QB with the potential to be a pro-bowler. He's never had the likes of Larry Fitzgerald to the throw the ball to either. I know it sounds a helluva lot better than Heyward-Bey, Moore & Streater.

3rd round pick for a ready to go, starting caliber QB who can still produce? No-brainer. Do it and go compete in 2013.

I don't think it would take a third rounder but I would still do it. He is an above average QB who would look good throwing the ball to Fitz.

Come On....

This isn't rocket science.

Three Factors:

- Palmer wants to stay on the West Coast. That was stated time and time again when the trade rumors in CIN started and the reason why he ended in OAK.

- Palmers contract need to be re-negotiated.

- Any trade for him will be for conditional picks - nothing up front.

If Palmer thinks he's still stating material in the NFL, then it's hard to imagine the destination place being another place than here (given the Cardinals are interested in him). He has a very fair shot at the starting job here, Fitz, Floyd and Hausler catching passes and OL upgrades most likely coming in the draft. He knows that no one will take on his current contract, but the Cardinals would be willing to give him a incentive ladden contract that could deliver him nice $$$ if he performs.
As to giving anything up for him.
I would have no problem giving up next year's 7th rounder for him as a base with possibility of the pick being a 3rd/4th rounder if Palmer puts up great numbers.

If Palmer on the other hand wants a chance at a ring more than a chance at a starting job - then the 49ers is the obvious destination.

Nobody else would even want Palmer, wait for him to be released or just pass on that unsteady ass. He was ready to throw his kangol in the ring just a little while, I kind of think we can do better than PALMER. First person to bring up Kurt Warner's miracle ressurecting Az story will make me puke though.

I watched Encino Man earlier today, and the cheese is old and moldy yall.

:barf:

You wait for the Raiders to release him, and then get him for the 25 cents, but it still don't make no sence because he hasn't been good since...

Sints I can't spell it any other way....pass on that cat that can't focus on passing. If yall are down with the tank than I apologize, but even then there are cheaper ways to go 3-13....aka Stanton.

This. Especially if the Raiders cut him.

Palmer is a waste of time at this juncture. The Cards are not a playoff contender this or next season. I'm not for bringing a QB who if they even had a prime to speak of, they're past it. And stop with this Warner nonsense because Kurt was an anomaly. Just like him being the only QB to come out of the AFL to have a spectacular career in the NFL. He's the exception to the rule. Palmer is beat up, used up, and quite frankly, doesn't need to come here. For years we've put up with the Jeff Blake's, Kent Graham's, Dave Brown's and Gary Hogaboom's and some of you want to bring this guy in? I say, drop the idea, go with what we have, and hopefully something good comes out of next year's draft. Let's try to build a team for once like SF has done.

I am very mixed on this one.....I have seen Palmer be an awesome QB at times and with our staff apparently being QB gurus one would think they could coach and motivate him into pro bowl form...he does drop a fantastic deep ball....and we could be good for a few years.....

but it also reaks of SOC...make a move to just get good enough...good enough to put asses in the seats and go 8-8...........

It occurs to me to ride with Dawg on the tank....... suppose this...
we tank out...go 1-15....get the #1 pick in the 2014 draft....

then we trade the remainder of the 2014 draft and a couple picks from the 2015 draft to also get the #2 pick in 2014....
and we draft the TWO concensus best Quarterbacks available....have those guys battle it out in camp and pre season....then later trade off the loser to re acquire some of those draft picks we traded away to get the #2 pick...

NFL Network scrolled Cardinals won't overpay for Carson Palmer. Not sure what this is referring to but I doubt he is coming here.

Thanks. I wouldn't give up any picks for him.

If Palmer is willing to accept our financial terms and come here, I'm not against throwing over a late round pick to ensure you get your guy rather than risk potentially having to compete against someone else. But, anything above a 6th would give me apprehension unless it has some conditional type ramifications to it.

The best case scenario for the Cardinals?

Might be that Palmer goes to Tampa Bay and the Cardinals can arrange a trade for Josh Freeman. I think Freeman can be a real star in this league with the right tutelage.

I agree. Some team somewhere will be willing to outspend us, and I'd be surprised if Steve K hasn't drawn some sort of line in the sand.

I come down slightly more flexible than saying "no picks what-so ever but less willing to give away the store with a 3rd or 4th round pick for a dude who's still trading on his potential despite probably only having a 2 year shelf-life.

It figures to boil down to whether or not BA and Steve feel Palmer will get us to the playoffs with any certainty relative to what Stanton or Hoyer can do and how much they're willing to pay in draft picks/players for that roll of the dice.

It also depends on how important it is to Oakland to walk away with something - even if it's a 7th rounder in 2014.

All said, however, the aroma of this entire thingy suggests IMO no-deal and probably no Palmer.

Palmer may be past his best years, OR we might see a resurgence if we sign him. Who knows? The bottom line is that he is far better than anyone we now have at QB, or anyone we have much chance of getting this year.

He would be ideal for this team, as an interim QB for a young prospect to study under for 2-3 years before being sent into the fray. Meanwhile, we would become immediately better, (MORE FUN TO WATCH). What's not good about that??? Get him if he's gettable.
