Panthers’ owner David Tepper on the firing Ron Rivera: “I have a great deal of respect for Ron and the contributions he has made to this franchise and to this community. I wish him the best. I will immediately begin the search for the next head coach of the Carolina Panthers.”

With #Panthers coach Ron Rivera out, secondary coach Perry Fewell was named interim head coach. OC Norv Turner will transition to special assistant to the head coach, and QB coach Scott Turner will serve as offensive coordinator. ... Major changes in Carolina.

Man, I wish we could hire him as HC.

I’m pretty surprised by the news, really. I haven’t been totally dialed in to what’s going on there, but what was he supposed to do with an undrafted backup QB?

I wish we could hire him right now as our DC. I'd pay him a few mil a year as well.

Ahem.

1. Dan Quinn HC Falcons and/or Thomas Dimitroff GM
2. Vic Fangio HC Broncos/John Elway GM
3. Ron Rivera Panthers HC. New ownership.
4. Bill O'Brien Texans . Hocked the future for this year.
5. Doug Marrone Jags HC.
6. Mike Zimmer Vikigs HC / Rick Spielman GM
7. Mike Vrabel Titans mired in mediocrity

When these dotcom guys buy a team, they have a drawer full of short leashes. Maybe Dan Snyder and David Tepper made a pre game wager. Losing team had to fire their head coach.

Not right now though. He would fail defensively for the same reason Wilks did. We don’t have the DT’s for that scheme.

Of course he fails this year.

He has a proven track record on the defensive end, and should have some quality input come draft time. He is my dream hire, therefore I don't expect to happen.

Ron Rivera also only had 3 .500 seasons out of 9. Bruce Arians got the same amount in 5(even though he got the best of Arians) here.

He hates analytics.

He also hates playing rookies.

I think I would hate a Ron Rivera hire more than a McCarthy one.

Lord.

He primarily runs a zone too.

No thanks to any zone coaches.
I get what you are saying, but I am at the point where I will take any good defensive coordinator and worry about the coverage he runs after the fact. I also think he is willing to adapt. You can look at his changing the defense from a 4-3 to a 3-4 this year as an example of this.
