Per KTAR:

The reason Patrick Peterson wants out is he does not want to go through a re-build again, and wants to win a championship before he retires.

He has no issues with the organization, coaches, etc., etc.

Just wants to go to a winner now.
History of this at his position.

The Cards would save significantly on the cap THIS YEAR by trading Peterson, and he'd be off the books altogether in 2019. He'd have $1.2M in pro-rated cap money, which would be more than offset by the salary coming off the books.

I mentioned this in a thread three weeks ago. I'm surprised it's already happening.

Without an additional $10M or so that we'd get from Peterson, we'd be like 12th in the league in cap space next year. That said, we'd have to replace the #1 corner position.

EDIT: FWIW, Patrick's first few NFL Seasons were 8-8 and 5-11. This isn't his first taste of hardship.

That's just another way to say the Cardinals are in shambles as I perceive it. Maybe Fitz wants out next.

Wilks is on 98.7 right now. Said defensive struggles have nothing to do with scheme, everything to do with fundamentals and technique. He just doesn't get it.

Wilks' says this repeatedly...it's never the coaching or the scheme or the play calling or whatever. The reason the Cardinals suck is because they aren't executing. He's basically saying that his coaching staff is doing everything right it's just that the players suck.

I think Wilks is somewhat correct here when it comes to the defense. The Cardinals biggest problem on defense is that they haven't been able to defend the run consistently. They have given up way too many large chunk plays in the running game. In a 4-3 defense, when it comes to run defense, it's a Gap Responsibility scheme. If you don't have players being disciplined in their assigned gap then problems will occur.

I think that is why you are seeing Nkemdiche on the bench more. The coaches don't trust that Nkemdiche will be where he is supposed to be. So he is only getting in occasionally on obvious passing downs.

Also there is the issue of not having the right type of LBs. The Cardinals don't have a true 3rd LB. Buc and Budda are just to small to hold up against the run consistently. This whole nickel defense 90% of the time is a mistake and will always struggle against the run.

So with the defense it's a combination of players not being in their assigned gaps, the void at LB, and coaches playing nickel way too much.

they gotta start fresh, from GM on down on Black Monday. And to be honest, they should probably get a new GM even before that so they can hit the ground running on a coaching search so we don't have to pick up scraps like we did last year... even though we should have known a coaching search was coming there as well.

People can say "Oh, this is the first bad year under Keim", but that's horse manure. When you're picked as a Super Bowl favorite and you don't even make the playoffs (2016), that's a bad year. When you follow it up losing CC and Jefferson in FA and go 8-8, that's a nothing year.

And this year isn't just bad... it's disastrous.

Big changes needed.

Add to this was not resigning D J Swearinger who looked really good for the Skins yesterday.

I see BA left his how to throw the players under the bus while defend coaches at all costs manual for Wilks

Yeah it's classic denial. We're playing the nickel constantly, can't stop the run, and it has nothing to do with scheme?

He's playing a 4-2-5 defense with guys who played 3-4 for years.

I love PP, I can't fault him if he really wants out, I hope they can persuade him to stick it out but you gotta let the players know it's going to get better and give them a reason to believe you. Firing McCoy is not enough

man... I didn't even think about that. This team is almost completely healthy and the worst team in the league. That is pretty damn impressive!

We're missing our starting LG, C and RG but we are overall fairly healthy.

We were last week, but most of the season we've been intact, especially on defense.

It's completly embarrassing that Wilks came into this job saying we're gonna run the ball and we're gonna stop the run are our top priorities, and midway through his first season we can do neither.

If anyone took notice on Thursday at the effort PP was giving this doesn't surprise me. On the TD pass to Sanders PP was running stride for stride with Sanders about 5 yds to Sander's left and never even attempted to close that gap until after Sanders caught the ball. PP possibly could have made a play on Sanders and/or the ball and instead appeared to escort Sanders to the EZ. I thought PP played really soft Thursday. Mitch took a lot of crap here when he called out PP and now it appears Mitch calling PP out was warranted. This is a supposed leader and one of the captains of the team and he's asking for a trade? Maybe I'm just old fashion but captains are suppose to rally the team and keep some sort of cohesion and PP is going in the complete opposite direction. I wonder what the other players think of PP now. This is one of your captains wanting to just ship. I personally don't see how you can keep a guy like PP around after he asks to be traded. He could easily become a cancer on the team.

PP could have left his intentions private with Bidwill and Keim and then be moved after the season. He would still be in his prime and a good deal could have been reached with some team. Instead he goes public and leaves them 9 days until the trade deadline. I could easily see PP tanking it if he doesn't get traded.

So almost halfway through the 1st bad Cardinals season of Peterson's career and he wants to be traded?

Definitely not the first Cards bad season with Pat P. He was here in 2012 when we won like 4 games & lost 58-0 to the Hawks.

oh I think Wilks has been terrible, no problem at all with him being a 1 and done coach.

I'm not in favor of trading PP largely because it's so hard to get a #1 CB in the NFL now. I shudder to think how bad this defense would be if we can't rely on him being there. Now maybe that's part of why we're playing the defense we're playing, all this zone, maybe they entertained this idea earlier and thought if we're going to trade him, we need to be a zone team, we can't play man without him.

I don't see any reason why the Raiders would be the team they're clearly trying to hoard draft picks, and no way PP would want to go there. So then you start looking for a good match and I don't see one.

He wants to win right away, we would want either multiple high picks or a high pick and a player, just don't see it happening.

Nothing Mitch said was warranted. Mitch was very misguided in his PP21 assessment. Remember when he told us that Traymon Williams was a better CB?

PP21 has only been the best CB in the NFL this season. If he's tanking it, then I hope he stays and keeps tanking.

Packers have three 1st rd picks over the next two years but they drafted two corners last year. Was hoping they could create a NFC North bidding war.

Personally I think it would be insane to trade away your best defensive player who is still in his prime. Plus you have him under contract for 2 more years and he will only cost $11M and $13M in his final two years.

There is no way in hell that I make a trade unless the compensation is just crazy good.

This.

If Oakland would trade 2 of their 1sts & literally nothing else, I’d be 100% down with it, but they’re not doing that.

First despite what Wilks said, it’s the scheme. PP stood out from the crowd always being assigned to cover the other team’s top receiver man-to-man. Both from a salary and prestige standpoint it’s not surprising he doesn’t like the change. You could criticize his ego but last season he did a fine job shutting down that receiver. He clearly is not nearly as effective playing zone. Also the players around him are having trouble with the scheme. The LBs can’t cover and Baker is often out of position. PP looks weaker as a result.

In terms of keeping PP, which they should, tell him and his agent to go get a fair deal. When he finds out the best offer is likely a third rounder he may be embarrassed enough to shut up and play through it.

Now the scary question ?

Who hired Wilks ? Bidwill ? If so, he is the person who will have to hire a GM.

This organization as on the brink of being the new Browns for years to come.
That is a scary question. If Bidwill really did hire Wilks then how can we trust him to select a quality GM?

It all comes down to what they could get for him in a trade. If they can get a very very attractive deal, they should grab it. PP is not going to be a factor this year if he remains with the Cardinals and if Thursday is any indication, will be a slacker.

1. I wonder if this has anything to do with HB taking less money to go to Houston. With as close as they are..... They have to be talking.

2. Captains should be better than this.

3. Trade him now.... Or not at all. And there should be a bidding war for him with all of the passing changes. But trade him to a fringe team who thinks they are better than they really are. Detroit, Miami, Houston, Atlanta, or Tampa. Atlanta may be fine giving up their pick this year knowing how good they will be next year when everyone is back healthy.

4. Personally..... I trade him. Value is high.... He wont be winning us anything....... We need more talent. A first (top 15) and a third preferably.

Gambo has spoken...

@Gambo987
Former teammate of Patrick Peterson tells me he doesn't want to be a part of a rebuild, wants to win a championship before he retires or have opportunity to win. Says he loves the coaches, speaks highly of Wilkes, he's not disgruntled about anything except winning.
