The ONLY reason I would want this deal NOT to happen, would be if the Lakers were able to turn around and deal for Howard this year as well. With this deal and no other trades, this would've made the Lakers a lot worse and thus helped the Suns.

uh... therein lies the rub... the Hornets weren't going to get both of those guys.. and those guys are both older. you don't trade youth for guys in their thirties. That's not a good deal.

Hornets would have received Odom, Kevin Martin, Goran Tragic :))) and a first.

Well, ONE of those guys is in his 30's. LOL

Agreed. And what I'm guessing is that it makes it a lot easier for the Lakers to get D12, while keeping either LO or Pau. And that makes the Lakers MUCH better than having CP3 and losing LO and Pau.

So, the sniveling owners might have just effed themselves.

Chris Broussard saying that CP3 not coming into Hornets camp...that he is treating it as if the trade is just on hold...and that the agents and players union is gearing to give a legal challenge.

WTF? Really? That's freaking crazy on the heels of signing the CBA.

Stern saying that he voided trade "for basketball reasons". LOL!

How valuable is the NO franchise going to be when they lose Paul for nothing?

Is it actually signed yet? It would be hilarious if the blow-up over this trade derails the entire season.

I think it was signed a few hours before this.

I think the trade fiasco, though, shows they didn't really think the damn thing through if they pitch a fit before the ink is dry.

If another team is not willing to give a better offer, this seems unfair to the teams involved. Unless those six owners did make better offers which were rebuffed earlier as had supposedly happened with the original Pau trade. Seems to me the NO trading rules should have been ironed out before the off-season. Perhaps they were?

If none of the teams that Paul requested trades to have cap space next year, then his threat to not resign has less legs. Though even him leaving to any team with cap space next year would hurt NO.

I wonder if Jerry Buss purposely "loses" poker games to other owners to get them to trade players to his team.

I'd rather see this trade go through than Odom and Bynum be traded for Howard, but I'll live with anything that blocks the chance of both trades happening.

Perhaps more valuable because the new owner can build the team how they want rather than be saddled with existing deals.

As a Laker fan, I would love CP3 but I'd rather have Kobe/Dwight and Pau or Odom than Kobe/CP3/Bynum.

Killing the CP3 deal means Kobe/Dwight/Pau most likely. That is sick enough for me. Being a PG though, I hate not having a sweet passing, great handles guy like Paul on the roster.

The new owner will lose CP3 for nothing. No assets to trade, and no two extra draft picks.

I don't buy that reasoning if I'm about to buy the team. I want the extra junk to use for trades, and the picks.

What, the players union is going to take legal action against a player having to honor his contract? This seems like an owners vs owners issue to me.

I would love to see Paul sit and collect no salary.

There's no such thing as nothing in this league. Cap space is an asset (though probably not a good one for NO). Remember how Memphis trading Pau for essentially nothing was such a good move?

The contract of a player who wanted to be traded was traded to a team he wants to be moved to, legally. Other players contracts were also legally traded, regardless of their desires, but within the confines of the agreement. The deal was nixed by the league, by their statement "for basketball reasons." In a collective bargaining agreement environment, that is shady. Reeks of collusion of owners against players. Definition of "basketball reasons" would need to be explained and proven. Otherwise, the league is acting in a manner that violates the rights of a player to request and be provided a trade to a team of his choosing if the teams can work out a mutually agreed too transaction.

So yeah, I'd not be surprised at legal action.

Ha. Lately people have been saying Marc Gasol > Pau Gasol. :D

Wasn't nothing. was a young big in Lil' Gasol, cap space that they could use and an expiring K in stonehands.

But they did that via TRADING, not by letting Gasol walk away. They picked up a goon in Kwame that they dumped for space...plus space from the deal in itself, plus a good prospect in Marc that the Lakers liked in the first place.

Not a good example, IMO.

Horrible deal for the Rockets! Gasol is not worth K-Mart, let alone Scola, Dragic AND A 1st rd pick for him.

The league gave Demps the authority to run the Hornets...unless Mark Cuban disagrees with his decisions, then Stern calls the shots.
