930pm Tuesday night, ESPN says Shaq headed to PHX for a physical. This deal is done, unless he fails this physical.

I have backed Kerr so far but if this trade goes through, I say he needs to go and Sarver could follow him also.

Heard the same thing from a fairly reliable source (Suns employee) so it looks like its the real deal.

I'm kinda torn on the trade

Eff it! I'm all in. The team ain't gonna win jack as is, so maybe this is a worthy gamble. Keep in mind that the greatest true C we've had the last 18 years was Mark West.

Nash-DJ
Bell-Barbs
Hill-Diaw
Stoudemire
O'Neal-Skinner

Why not? O'Neal forces the double or triple on the block and Amare or Hill slashes in for a dunk courtesy of a Shaq pass or he kicks it to Nash or Bell spotting for a 3....

Marion was done in Phoenix--it was pretty obvious to me just watching the games. The effort wasn't there anymore, and he's always been about effort. Plus, Dan Fegan was going to rake the Suns over the coals at the end of the year.

Everybody who said the Suns couldn't win with their old philosophy & personnel...guess it's time to **** if this trade comes through. On paper, this is the best team in Suns history, with the two best centers in Suns history; you'll have to whine about something besides small ball now.

What the Suns need now is a small forward; someone like James Jones, but who can actually hit shots without needing to work himself into rhythm. Don't the Suns have a $6m trade exception from the KT trade? Time to go get somebody, wouldn't you think?

I wonder what P.J. Brown thinks of this.

I like it. If Shaq can stay somewhat healthy, Suns will be a force. **** running and gunning all the time.

Yeah, the Hot Rod deal part deux!!!

The Suns will try this year and next, after that Shaq will have an expiring contract and could be tradeable again - maybe to finish his career as a Laker or Magic. But, maybe the Suns will try to talk him into retiring by offering him some ownership stake?? Stranger things have happened.

Christ, I can't believe this may actually be happening. I feel like I'm going to cry.

I can't believe the Suns F.O. would think their a latter day Oliver Miller away from a title, thats depressing.

EDIT : VV Haha, great post. Thanks for the laugh

Dear god, please hear my plea today.

I have made it a goal in my life to not ask for stupid, pedantic things of you when there are people suffering and starving in the world.

But today, something terrible might happen. Truely terrible.

Please god, make this trade either not be completely terrible, or have it just not happen. Either will do.

Thank you,

amen.

Please don't compare Shaq with Oliver Miller. Even in his current health state Shaq is better then Oliver Miller by a pretty large margin.

If we limit Shaq's minutes and have him play the Kurt Thomas role in our fast break offense (getting the board to lead to the fast break) then this should work out just fine.

The only role that Shaq knows and accepts is that of the main focal point on offense, the MDE, the Big Aristotle. His ego will not allow him to accept a Kurt Thomas role. Wherever he goes, he will want to be 'The Man' and if he's not, he'll be a big baby about it.

In 95-96 Oliver Millers numbers:
12.9ppg
7.4rpg
1.88bpg

Shaqs numbers this year:
14ppg
7.8rpg
1.7bpg

So obviously I was exaggerating with the 'latter day' part, but yes, those numbers are fairly similar to numbers the Big O put up. And you'll be paying Shaq TWENTY MILLION dollars for the next two years.

If he was going to be that big of a baby about it, he wouldn't even make the trip here. Trust me he knows that he will basically be the 3rd wheel here.

As for his ego, it'll be settled if he can be the key piece to bring the Suns their 1st title. Think along the same lines as a Curt Schilling.

Just FYI I wanted to post what I was told from my source regarding the parts of the trade ... it would be the Heat get Marion and Banks and the Suns get Shaq and Zo (he's done but he's added to make the trade work $$ wise). Like I said this is from a fairly reliable source so take it for what its worth

ESPN has updated their web page.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3232862

"It looks like it's going to happen," said one source close to the situation. "We should know for sure by tomorrow."
Another sign that the deal is imminent: ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher reported Tuesday night on SportsCenter that O'Neal is scheduled to travel to Phoenix on Wednesday, presumably to take a physical.

Zo isn't needed to make the trade work. Banks/Marion for Shaq qorks straight up.

That would make sense since right after Zo annonuced he was done after this injury, he had to recant and say he wasnt officially retired.
