I hear Oakland is looking at him to play QB.
I chuckled at this post; other than that this entire thread is depressing. I seriously feel bad for Lutui; can't imagine what is going on with him to flush away his career.

Could it be that the Cardinals were aware of this situation with Lutui and that played into the decision to add both Hadnot and Faneca?

I think you are on to something here. There is no way he added that much weight and the Cards had no idea it was happening.

Sounds like Lutui needs a healthy dose of John Lott

Make that independent and reliable and unidentified sources.

(Where there's smoke, there probably is fire, and I'm not sayin'/I'm just sayin' - But info from Jurecki based on unidentified sources he "had reason to believe was accurate" doesn't nail it).

Jeff without knowing the facts and if you were asked do you believe it with a yes or no answer....which way do you go???

So are the Cardinals on the hook for guaranteed money if Lutui eats himself out of a job?

Yes, unless someone with more knowledge can correct me.

A tender is guaranteed money in compensation for the RFA not going to another team and there are fixed tiers.

So Deuce gets $1.75M this year whether he plays a down of football or not.

That would go towards a lot of buffet coupons.

I vote "No."

Either you believe in the scientific method - which places evidence over hearsay - or you don't. In the end, you can't compromise that principle.

That said - you posed the question within an abstract, theoretical context.

In a more practical "real life" circumstance, the question wouldn't have to beg a "yes" or "no" answer, but more likely a - "Given the circumstances, if you were the Cardinal HC or GM what would you do?

Answer: Why speculate and "fire before you aim." Get hard facts by having Deuce immediately show up for a physical /weigh-in. Then go from there.

Look, if you're any good at running an organization, division or dept. thereof, you're going to look out for and be concerned about the folks who work for you. If reports - verified or unverified - come drifting into you, you're going to be concerned (both about the individual and the potential impact on your organization).

Anytime, you get wind of a report that one of your starting offensive linemen is tipping the scales just south of 400 lbs, you've got to at least sit up and take notice (because a weight-gain of that magnitude raises concerns about the player's health (cardio-vascular, knees, back etc.), performance (speed, mobility, endurance) and self-discipline (if he can't push himself away from the table, how likely will he work to stay in shape when he's not being watched like a hawk?)

But "being concerned" is a far cry from automatically writing off a player based - not on solid fact - but because of what some unidentified dude said. And that's what seems to be happening here.

Duece should have come forward and asked for help long before now.Even if he was in a contract dispute. To say grief has gotten the best of this young man is rediculous.Counseling and a love for the GYM is lacking bigtime in a man from this area and about to eat himself out of a possible promising career worth lots more money.

Who is Duece surrounded by? How could they not notice and help him if they loved him? He had accsess to a psychologist for a small fee.Time to be a MAN Duece.Nothing better than the weightroom and tons of dumb bells to release your inner feelings and work things out.He knew his job and to top it off his anger at not getting a new contract due to the league management changeing the rules on him.

Where I come from 1.75 million is a ton of money for thousands of players that came before Lutui at his position. I hope we got good results from the MRI taken on Hadnots tweaked knee. If the weight figure is true Lutui is a waste on the 53 man squad and from the day he signed he needs to be with coach Lott and be put on the pup list till he is ready to wear the CARDINALS jersey with real pride.Don't let him dress looking like a shame.

I truly hope he gets the mental and physical help he needs before he wastes his entire NFL shot.I know the Cardinals care enough to get him the full and proper help and not coddle him at camp.Lutui could hurt his body in camp at that weight and the Cards know it. What a shame he was so delicate. I think his Mom or Sister posts here during the season.

.

Even more "real life" so to speak if i were either coach or gm i would know the facts and the question i posed would be irrelevant.

I hope this is a big over estimate of his weight. I think Deuce has been very solid for us. He has been tons(pun intended) better than what we have had in the past. It looks like he is self-destructing on a potentially solid career... Hope I am wrong.

I don't think it matters much. OL D Lutui missed time. He will not be in good graces, whether he's in shape or not. I think his career as a Cardinal are over

Not sure if it has been mention but Darren Urban wrote this the day Duece signed:
I am terrible in judging weights — I mean, the man is supposed to be big in the first place — but honestly, he didn’t look sloppy out of shape.

I highly doubt Duece is close to 400 pounds. Is he heavier than the team wants him, no doubt but I can't see it being by that much. This guy is a pro athlete, he wouldn't let himself gain that much, especially if he wants a new contract.

Doug, I know that this is conjecture, as we are all guessing here. If I was a betting man, however, I would probably bet that there is some truth to all this.

If he lost a close, (father type figure), AND he was angry at finding himself in an untennable contract situation, AND he had a habit of eating more than he should anyway, ----- then he might indeed be in trouble here. You asked who he surrounded himself with, and the answer is FAMILY. Samoans are known to have very close families, AND they tend to be rather large people who love to eat. I could see that if he was sad at losing his friend, and was angry with his contract situation, and took solace in his family, (isolated from team influences), then he could have ballooned to the purported weight over the off season.

If his family is like mine, (old school who don't believe in psychiatry), then he would be expected to strap on his boot strings and pull himself out of his trouble. In fact, he may have had more grief than he could deal with. This scenario is very sad, but unfortunalely it is very possibly also true. Worse yet, ----- if it is true, then it will take much longer to undo the damage than it took to create it.
